Cannot Connect To Website Via HTTP Or HTTPS

Apr 25, 2008

I cannot connect to one website via HTTP or HTTPS - www.discover.com. After installing SP1, I can no longer connect to this one website. I have Zone Alarm along with Vista's built in firewall installed, and there is a firewall build in to the 2 wire DSL router I have. Antivirus is Symantec antivirus 10.2.0.276. Windows defender is also installed. I've diabled all firewalls and antivirus and setup a DMZ on the router and still cannot connect. When I try to connect in IE, which seems to indicate either a DNS or a firewall error. Running Vista's diagnostic tests says that port 80 or 443 is being blocked, but with all firewalls off, I can't imagine by what. I've installed virtual pc and installed xp with sp2 on the virtual pc and that is able to connect through vista to that website.

Via a XP SP2 laptop on the local LAN i'm also able to connect. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the NIC. The machine has a PCI wireless card and using that it is also not able to connect. I've tired to use my cellular provider for dial-up access and that also did not work. I've tired safe mode with networking and still no luck. Of course all other sites are normal. I've tried resetting IE settings, adding the site to the trusted sites, running with no add-ons, all with no luck. I've messed with the security settings as suggested in some threads and no luck. I've also tried Opera, Firefox, and Safari and none of them can connect either. There is no proxy setup either. I've reset the IP and Winsock ( ipconfig /flushdns, /renew, netsh int ip reset, netsh winsock reset, etc)..........

IE7:website Declined To Show The Page Giving Error (HTTP 403 Forbidden)

Apr 25, 2008

Just recently (possibly since SP1) a number of web sites that I frequently visit have become inaccessible via my Vista Hoe Premium/IE7 PC. I can access them OK using WinXP/IE7 on my laptop so have no idea what the problem can be. The error message states "The website declined to show the page....This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage". With the exception of one site, none of the other four sites require any kind of log-in. I use Norton Internet Security but have disabled web protection to see if that helps - nothing, I've also binned my temp internet files - nothing!

Cannot Connect To A Server Via Http

Jul 17, 2008

I want to connect to a Team Foundation Server through HTTP. I am not in the network (local nor VPN) with the server I want to connect to. I use the public IP of the server. From my laptop with XP it can be reached easily - for example when I enter the http://serverIP:9200 in the Internet Explorer, the browser asks me for a password and if I fail to log it shows that the Access is denied. 9200 is a port number.

When I connect a laptop with Vista and do the same, a browser just informs that it cannot display the page. I can't also connect to the server via telnet. The behaviour is the same also when I turn off the firewall on Vista (on XP I do not need to turn off the firewall). What then can be blocking this connection?? Are there any security settings that I should check? There is no problem to connect to the Web server from the same network as this TFS.

Cannot Connect To The Exchange Server Using HTTP

Mar 29, 2008

Background: New Laptop with Vista Home Premium, MS Office 2007 installed and the office runs Exchange Server 2003 (fully patched as far as I know).Problem:Cannot connect to the exchange server using HTTP (had no poblems with old laptop running XP).Facts:(i) finding my mail box/username on the Exchange Server during the Mail setup process on my laptop - no problem; (ii) setting up the connection using HTTP via proxy settings - no problem; (iii) completeing the Mail setup - no problem. Symptoms: When I open up Outlook, I get prompted for username/pwd (so far so good), but that's it! Either Outlook times out without ever opening up or I get error messages that Outlook can't connect to server. Additional Info: (i) accessing the exchange server via Outlook Web - no problem; (ii) accessing the exchange server via VPN - no problem; (iii) have tried accessing from other laptop also running Vista (same setup)same problem.

Can Only Access HTTPS And Other Ports,

Dec 24, 2008

After a short time on the internet my browser stops. I have tried IE 7 & 8 Firefox with no result. I CAN only access https sites and any other with a different port (example.com:81). I have checked for malware and even reloaded Vista. I have replaced the MS firewall with ZA Pro and still no difference. I have unchecked IPV6 as well. The only way round this is to reboot and that seems to take an age. The pc will reboot in seconds normally, that’s when you haven’t been on the internet.

Add Https: To Blocked Websites Under Parental Control

Mar 11, 2009

I am trying to block https://vtunnel.com as a blocked website under parental controls. My children have discovered at school that you can bypass filters and visit sites you want by first using this https://vtunnel.com site and it will take you where you want to go. I can add it to a restricted site in internet explorer but it can only be added to IE under each user account ID and then they can edit it. With parental controls, when I try to block it using Parental Controls, User Controls, Windows Vista Web Filter, Block a Specific Website, I get an error message stating: "only websites starting with http:// can be added to the allow or block lists".

Loss Of HTTP Connectivity Going Out

Apr 10, 2009

My wife's computer is running Windows Vista. The system works fine for almost all purposes. It accesses the Internet successfully through a wireless network card to our home WiFi router. The WiFi connection is fine with a high signal strength. It's connecting to an old DLink 802.11b router using WEP encryption, which is all the router supports. Periodically, on average every few days, she will lose HTTP connectivity. This happens in both IE7 and Firefox 3.08. She can still send and receive email and still use a web browser via HTTPS, but she cannot connect to ordinary web pages on port 80. The problem normally persists until she reboots, at which time connectivity is restored. Two other computers on my home network (one Linux, one XP) are unaffected. They work fine through the same wireless network while my wife's Vista computer is not connecting...............

Firewall Security: HTTP Forbidden Error 403

May 1, 2008

Message: I was having issues with the firewalls and security, and conflicts with my norton security I disabled the Vista and ended up with everything disabled, I could not get on the internet or my email, I had my server here, thinking it was a issue with the address being diabled and the dsl modem reset, They are not too fimilar with Vista and unable to connect, We continually get the HTTP 403 forbidden error, I was able to get the email to work, the comupter is connected to the interent and no problems when I ran diagnosis on it, so my email works ,

I went into the admin. tools , services and almost all where disabled, so i went in clicked them to automatic, enabling them, its to click on something to allow inbound/outbound security, but, I dont know what ones to run start, stop etc. I need information as to what to click or unclick, what to allow or not allow to access the internet, So what I am saying is the internet connection is up and working, I am able to go into my email and send and recieve, but, when I go to my internet browser, click to go, it says HTTP forbidden error 403, you are connected to the internet but unable to view this page

IIS7 On Home Premium, HTTP 404 Error

May 18, 2009

I just purchased a laptop with Vista Home Premium. I managed to (I think) successfully install IIS7. However, when I type "localhost" into my browser, I keep getting the HTTP 404 error. The page is just a very simple "hello" in html. In my event log, I see there is an HTTP Event 15016..something about Kerberos. However, I am not connected to a domain, so this should not be a problem.

MS: Can't Log On To Their Website?

Feb 18, 2008

now I realize that MS is trying to protect me from all the web baddies. But why can't I log on to their website (hotmail) without turning security off? I've set that site as OK for cookies. But if security is on then it won't accept my password. I'm not typing it wrong, I've had that email for about 6-7 years now. As soon as I turn off security, close IE, open IE I can log on. Then I have to turn on security and close IE, then open for security to be back on. Is there a way I can just log on without turning off security. Or can I convice MS to fix this obvious blunder? Vista Home basic BTW

License With Mp3: Sent To A Website That Does Nothing

Mar 23, 2008

windows vista home premium/windows media player 11. Today I can no longer play certain mp3's I have. I am told I need a license and to get it, I am sent to a website that does nothing. No information on the website is offered to obtain the license other than to go to certain other websites, and pay for the license.

Up until today, I could play the mp3's with no problems. Perhaps due in part in using "Rhapsody" for the first time. My problem is, how and where exactly do I obtain this "license" which should be free, or at least at bare minimal cost for ALL of my mp3's? Not just a select few. It's my damn property, microsoft ain't gonna tell me how and when i can use it.

Cant Access A Website

I've cleared the cache using the command prompt and I've cleared out all temporary internet files. I've run out of ideas as to why I still cant get onto the site (which can be found here).

Cannot Open Website From Windows

Dec 17, 2009

I've a web site url that apparently is unreachable from my PC (dhcp reserved address), MS Windows Vista Business and IE8, ONLY this website. I checked firewall and antivirus settings, i tried to bypass firewall, but problem persist. I changed from DHCP to Fixed IP, i changed DNS, but none. I also tried from Firefox / Chrome, same problem. Apparently the site is resolved from DNS but then not reachable. The tracert command shows that the request expire immediately, so it seems that the
request remains local and is not forwarded outside from my PC....

I've another PC, Windows XP Pro SP3, IE7 (also this dhcp reserved), it's joined in the same domain, so same dchp - dns - gateway and firewall rules...., same problem. This PC is a dual boot with Debian 5, so i tried to boot in linux and surprise...with Firefox that website opens immediately...and the tracert command shows that it is reachable among 4 nodes.... In linux the dhcp and the ip released is the same as XP....so it points to same default gateway and dns.....

Unable To Access A Website

May 12, 2008

I am not sure if this is a Microsoft issue or laptop issue but i play an online game & there is a program that i can use which enables me to play it automatically, however in order to use this program it needs to connect to its webpage. This has been working fine til saturday & then it stopped working. The website that i am not able to connect to (either on FireFox or IE7)

I have uninstalled AVG & disabled Windows Firewall & still not able to connect to the website or use the program. I re-installed AVG but had to install the 8.0 version & as i am sure you know already when you google something AVG will use its Resident Shield & Linkscanner & let you know if the links are safe; well, with the link for this website it says that it cannot scan it & that may be due to the webpage being removed or there is an issue with it. I know the webpage is there & that there is nothing wrong as i can use my girlfriends laptop on the same connection & it works perfectly fine.
