View 5 RepliesI have read that the solution to the error message that says that Windows Mail "can no longer support HTTP" is by installing Windows Live. I did install Windows Live, however, and the error still appears. What else has to be done?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a laptop with Vista Home Premium. I managed to (I think) successfully install IIS7. However, when I type "localhost" into my browser, I keep getting the HTTP 404 error. The page is just a very simple "hello" in html. In my event log, I see there is an HTTP Event 15016..something about Kerberos. However, I am not connected to a domain, so this should not be a problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedReviewing Services on my Vista Ultimate 64-bit machine I noticed that the DNS Client is disabled? I have a wireless router configured to the laptop and to the printer and have for some times been experiencing disconnection problems to the laptop and loosing the printer connectivity completely until I unplug the router, wait, and plug it back in--which will restore connectivity until the next time.
Shouldn't the DNS Client be enabled? Also noticed in Services I found HP Network Devices Support is set to Automatic (Delayed Start). Could this be what is causing the printer (C7280 All-in-One) to write so many (hundreds in days) .log entries in
WindowsTemp?
I'm attempting to set up a new PC with RAID 0 using Vista x64 Home Edition Premium. However, I'm having no luck. (Hours of scouring various forums have yielded nothing as well.) I've set up 2 RAID 0 partitions across my 2 SATA drives using Intel's Matrix Storage Manager. (CTRL + I thing at boot). When I load up Vista for installation, it recognizes the partitions but refuses to let me install on them. I get an alert at the bottom of the screen saying that my "...computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I'm not completely clear on what this means, but after entering BIOS, I have my drive configuration set to configure SATA as RAID. Attempting to continue the installation yields something like "Windows cannot find a drive that is suitable for installation" (not verbatim, sorry.) I have downloaded all of Intel's drivers for my motherboard and have even hunted down the RAID driver for my HDDs. I put all of those files onto a USB drive, but Vista doesn't seem to recognize any of them.
I have the Windows Automatic Update feature turned off. Every couple of weeks I manually update and install only critical and what I deem as necessary for my machine updates. Everything went fine the end of October, updates successfully installed. I also installed the English language pack as my OS was in German. I don't think the language pack has anything to do with the problems I'm about to describe. In early November I went to do a manual update and got this screen:
it's telling me that I need to update the updater. No big deal there. But, it's also telling me that I NEVER checked for updates and updates were NEVER installed. Not true, according to the next window I've got 112 updates in installed: Anyways, I continue to update the updater. It then tells me it can't complete the job and says to restart the computer and try to update again, which I did:.........
I'm trying to install DotNetNuke on Microsoft Vista Home Premium. I already have .NET framework 2.0, Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server Express installed on my PC. To install DotNetNuke
- Give the ASPNET (WinXP) or Network Service (Server 2003) account Read, Write, and Modify permissions on the directory you unzipped to. See the Host Settings page, ASP.NET Identity under the new Site Configuration section to be sure. Now I'm on Windows Vista Home Premium. I cannot find ASPNET or Network Service accounts. What do I do now? How can I create them on Vista Home premium? Can we do that on Vista home premium? Also, if I cannot create any of these accounts on Vista home premium then is there any workaround to acheive the above?
I type a url, I have to always preceed this with http:// or I go nowhere. what made this change? If I do this on a Windows XP machine with IE7, no issues.
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy wife's computer is running Windows Vista. The system works fine for almost all purposes. It accesses the Internet successfully through a wireless network card to our home WiFi router. The WiFi connection is fine with a high signal strength. It's connecting to an old DLink 802.11b router using WEP encryption, which is all the router supports. Periodically, on average every few days, she will lose HTTP connectivity. This happens in both IE7 and Firefox 3.08. She can still send and receive email and still use a web browser via HTTPS, but she cannot connect to ordinary web pages on port 80. The problem normally persists until she reboots, at which time connectivity is restored. Two other computers on my home network (one Linux, one XP) are unaffected. They work fine through the same wireless network while my wife's Vista computer is not connecting...............
View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to connect to a Team Foundation Server through HTTP. I am not in the network (local nor VPN) with the server I want to connect to. I use the public IP of the server. From my laptop with XP it can be reached easily - for example when I enter the http://serverIP:9200 in the Internet Explorer, the browser asks me for a password and if I fail to log it shows that the Access is denied. 9200 is a port number.
When I connect a laptop with Vista and do the same, a browser just informs that it cannot display the page. I can't also connect to the server via telnet. The behaviour is the same also when I turn off the firewall on Vista (on XP I do not need to turn off the firewall). What then can be blocking this connection?? Are there any security settings that I should check? There is no problem to connect to the Web server from the same network as this TFS.
Now that MSN mail is no longer HTTP based and is POP3 is there some hope of Windows Mail being fixed so that we can use it with our MSN email? While I realize there is the answer of using Windows Live Mail there are some of us out here that like Windows Mail a whole lot better.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI cannot connect to one website via HTTP or HTTPS - www.discover.com. After installing SP1, I can no longer connect to this one website. I have Zone Alarm along with Vista's built in firewall installed, and there is a firewall build in to the 2 wire DSL router I have. Antivirus is Symantec antivirus 10.2.0.276. Windows defender is also installed. I've diabled all firewalls and antivirus and setup a DMZ on the router and still cannot connect. When I try to connect in IE, which seems to indicate either a DNS or a firewall error. Running Vista's diagnostic tests says that port 80 or 443 is being blocked, but with all firewalls off, I can't imagine by what. I've installed virtual pc and installed xp with sp2 on the virtual pc and that is able to connect through vista to that website.
Via a XP SP2 laptop on the local LAN i'm also able to connect. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall the NIC. The machine has a PCI wireless card and using that it is also not able to connect. I've tired to use my cellular provider for dial-up access and that also did not work. I've tired safe mode with networking and still no luck. Of course all other sites are normal. I've tried resetting IE settings, adding the site to the trusted sites, running with no add-ons, all with no luck. I've messed with the security settings as suggested in some threads and no luck. I've also tried Opera, Firefox, and Safari and none of them can connect either. There is no proxy setup either. I've reset the IP and Winsock ( ipconfig /flushdns, /renew, netsh int ip reset, netsh winsock reset, etc)..........
looking for a download Manager that supports mss download types, most of the ones I have found only support http and ftp.

Symptoms: When I open up Outlook, I get prompted for username/pwd (so far so good), but that's it! Either Outlook times out without ever opening up or I get error messages that Outlook can't connect to server. I went into the admin. tools , services and almost all where disabled, so i went in clicked them to automatic, enabling them, its to click on something to allow inbound/outbound security, but, I dont know what ones to run start, stop etc. I need information as to what to click or unclick, what to allow or not allow to access the internet, So what I am saying is the internet connection is up and working, I am able to go into my email and send and recieve, but, when I go to my internet browser, click to go, it says HTTP forbidden error 403, you are connected to the internet but unable to view this page
I have the following error message when trying to login to vista on my laptop:
The User Profile Service service failed the login.
User profile cannot be loaded.
Just before the problem happened I was working to remove the Anti Virus Live virus from my laptop via the techsupportforum.com forum.
Two things I did within the hour of the problem happening are:
1. I ran the malware removal program OTL
See step 5 at (http://tinyurl.com/pr92qn)
2. I cleared and set system restore's cash-
as instructed in post#23 on my techsupportforum.com thread
(Anti Virus Live on my Laptop - Page 2 - Tech Support Forum)
Further details-I can and am able to login to Safe Mode I do not have a program called System Restore in the System Tools folder In Safe Mode I was able to change my password, but in normal mode I get the same error message I did windows updates and then tried to remove some of those updates, with only a few files that wouldn't allow me to delete them. Thank you for visiting my thread. If anyone has any ideas on how I can fix my problem it would be great to hear about them.
Also my Windows Search service does not start. When I try to start it, I get these errors in the event log:
1. "The Windows Search Service cannot open the Jet property store.
The content index server cannot update or access information because of a database error. Stop and restart the search service. If the problem persists, reset and recrawl the content index. In some cases it may be necessary to delete and recreate the content index. (0x8004117f)"
2. "The Windows Search Service has failed to created the new system catalog. Internal error <4,0x8004117f>."
I'm totally lost as how to solve this problem. I spent hours on the web trying to find a solution, with no luck sofar. Anyone here who has a clue how to solve this one?

For the past few weeks I've been having an issue with an Apple made service called "Bonjour Service". That service is used in several pieces of software including iTunes (which I do not use) but also some Adobe applications (Version Cue for example) and the font management utility I use which is Extensis Suitcase 11.0.1 for Windows.
Both Version Cue and Suitcase depend on the Bonjour Service to work and I have had no issues with it for months but recently, the Bonjour Service stopped working and would not start anymore. It now gives this error message when trying to start it:
"('Bonjour Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
My user account is an admin account so privileges is not an issue. I had made no changes to my system myself before the Bonjour service began to "refuse" starting but I remember that I installed a few Windows updates a couple days prior. My machine is always on and I don't re-boot everyday.
So I was wondering if anyone has heard of the issue and knows how I might fix it or if anyone can give me pointers on how I my start trouble shooting this and find what started preventing the Bonjour Service from starting. FWIW, the Windows Firewall is already off and turning off my anti-virus doesn't help (Eset NOD32).
Just recently (possibly since SP1) a number of web sites that I frequently visit have become inaccessible via my Vista Hoe Premium/IE7 PC. I can access them OK using WinXP/IE7 on my laptop so have no idea what the problem can be. The error message states "The website declined to show the page....This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage". With the exception of one site, none of the other four sites require any kind of log-in. I use Norton Internet Security but have disabled web protection to see if that helps - nothing, I've also binned my temp internet files - nothing!

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am considering a repair install for sometime in the future if I can't get the misc. issues fixed. I could do a clean install but wouldn't learn much that way.
Premium on P1 is the manufacturer's preinstalled OS from which I have removed the bloatware, cleaned it up & installed SP1 but am left with a few quirky behaviors.
sfc /scannow doesn't find any integrity violations. I have a Vista SP1 install DVD with all versions and the Upgrade/repair option is available in Premium using this DVD, I checked. I've read the tutorial but just double checking to be sure. I have everything imaged with Acronis but still wouldn't want to get into restoring the images.
A repair install should only make changes to the Premium OS on P1? I may have to repair my triple boot? (I'm using EasyBCD)
