View 9 Replies View RelatedMy problem is that I can't open IE7 links from within WinMail anymore. I've looked here and elsewhere for a solution ('Windows cannot find 'http -/- html'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again'). From this and other events, I suspect this is a permissions issue.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having an odd problem when I try to open some links sent in emails. I'm a member of a messageboard and, as such, I receive emails detailing when a reply has been posted. which directs the browser to open the page at the specific post. However, when the link arrives at the browser (I've tried this in both IE7 and firefox with the same result), which just dumps me at the top of a (sometimes very long) page. It happens with any link containing the hash symbol. Moving the hash around in the address results in the link being truncated at the point where the hash is.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWindows Vista includes a great little utility that allows users to finally make soft and hard file system links in the file system. This can be very useful from a software compatibility standpoint as well as a great way to organize your computer. Unlike a shortcut, a link is at the file system level and can be used to create an alias for a file or folder that is in a different location. For example, you can create a hard link (Directory junction) called c:win that points to c:windowssystem32. After the link is created, you can open up command prompt or explorer and browse to c:win and you will see the contents of c:windowssystem32. This is not a new technology, it has actually been a core Linux and Unix feature for as far as I can remember but it is nice to finally have it in Windows Vista....

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been getting by with Windows Mail for a while, but miss Outlook from when I last had it. Windows Mail just seems so slow and klugy by comparison--and the Calendar is also usable, but annoying. What do you all think? Outlook worth the investment for someone who is a heavy user with their own business?
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen I checked my computer today I discovered that my imported folders list is no longer showing up in Windows Mail. It is not just hidden, it has completely disappeared. It does not even show up when I check under my appdata user profile in the C: drive. Any ideas where it may have gone? It contains about 10 years of important emails.

View 5 Replies View RelatedVista SP1 install I had to reinstall (not restore) the entire system much to my regret. In the process I added a newsgroup account in Windows Mail and downloaded my regular newsgroups but could not find alt.binaries.food which I have been reading for quite some time (And in fact still reading it on a XP machine with OE so I know the group is alive and active).
After messing with it for over a day I chatted with EarthLink and other than to say its a "Vista problem" they provided no real help or direction. When I Google "missing alt.binaries.food and Vista" there are an amazing number of people with the same apparent problem description but no proposed or found solutions.
Then I added Thunderbird to the Vista system this afternoon and viola, alt.binaries.food is there alive and well. So it doesn't appear to be this computer but rather either something in Windows Mail or my setup. Does anyone have a clue? Or does this seem to point in some direction to the group?
Having had no mail problems previously, following the installation of 16 Windows Updates today I find that suddenly none of my Windows Mail messages contain any images (not even a red X). I've checked the security settings, but they haven't changed. The only Windows security product I'm using is Defender's Firewall, whle virus and spyware checking is from AVG (Free). I'm running on Vista Home Premium SP2 (32-bit).

View 8 Replies View Relatedmy friend's email is thru gmail. she has a links button (looks like chain links) that she uses to provide links to websites *without* showing the website address. it simply highlights a word she has typed and the mail recipient clicks on that word to go to the website. i think several words (a phrase) can be highlighted as well as just one word. so she might say, 'click here for more info' and the word *here* will be highlighted and contains the link. does windows vista mail have this feature? i cannot find it.

View 5 Replies View Relatedmy dodgy mail issue is back. Any HTML emails sent to me from Outlook appear as plain text and attachments are missing. I know for a fact that the gateway server they go through does NOT turn them into RTF or anything... It was all working fine and then it stopped. I am beginning to assume it's a problem intermittently caused by Norton AV (360 v3.0 I'm running). I have disabled email scanning but no dice.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi have tried to correct the windows mail challenge I am having on Vista. I found an old post and it suggested going into control panel and looking to see what the MailTo protocol is. It does not exist and that may be the challenge. I have checked for defaults and Windows mail and IE have all defaults set. I then looked for the windows mail protocol. It does not exist. I see windows mail in the far right on a couple of items but no protocol. Could this be because I put Office 07 in along with 03. It didn't work. I had hoped to have both available. 03 for now work and 07 to leisurely learn all the changes. I took 07 out and had to reinstall 03. That all works but email link embedded into a link tells me my mail client is not properly installed. I have a thread further down, but it is not being answered and so I am probably in trouble for starting a new one. How do I get the protocol in there?

When I click on a web link in an application, it opens the url in MS Word, not Firefox (default bowser).
For example:
In CCleaner if I click the 'check for updates' link in the bottom of the window, Word will open up, a download box will appear and then it displays the website as a document.
This happens for all apps, however it doesn't happen if I click on a .html/.url document from explorer, that will launch Firefox just fine.
