Having had no mail problems previously, following the installation of 16 Windows Updates today I find that suddenly none of my Windows Mail messages contain any images (not even a red X). I've checked the security settings, but they haven't changed. The only Windows security product I'm using is Defender's Firewall, whle virus and spyware checking is from AVG (Free). I'm running on Vista Home Premium SP2 (32-bit).

Using Windows Mail..I can receive links from others but when I *send* a LINK..(www.yahoo.com' //www.espn.com/), my receipients can not see the site. Neither can I for that matter when I go look at the email I just sent. I'm perplexed by this as I have followed answers in the forumn and clicked default on windows mail and even went to security tab under windows mail and unchecked block images.

Windows Mail just seems so slow and klugy by comparison--and the Calendar is also usable, but annoying. What do you all think? Outlook worth the investment for someone who is a heavy user with their own business?

View 5 Replies View RelatedVista SP1 install I had to reinstall (not restore) the entire system much to my regret. In the process I added a newsgroup account in Windows Mail and downloaded my regular newsgroups but could not find alt.binaries.food which I have been reading for quite some time (And in fact still reading it on a XP machine with OE so I know the group is alive and active).
After messing with it for over a day I chatted with EarthLink and other than to say its a "Vista problem" they provided no real help or direction. When I Google "missing alt.binaries.food and Vista" there are an amazing number of people with the same apparent problem description but no proposed or found solutions.
Then I added Thunderbird to the Vista system this afternoon and viola, alt.binaries.food is there alive and well. So it doesn't appear to be this computer but rather either something in Windows Mail or my setup. Does anyone have a clue? Or does this seem to point in some direction to the group?
When I open my images with Windows Photo Gallery the picture seems to have a brown tint. When I open it with PictureViewer it's normal.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIf you have installed Windows Mail on a Windows 7 computer,yesterday's update contains a KB978542 patch which changes msoe.dll so it won't run on Windows 7. I had warned about these types of issues when Win7 was first released. Microsoft claims it was done for security=20 reasons, see To get it working again, replace the new non-working copy of msoe.dll in Windows 7 with a copy of the new patched version of msoe.dll from a Vista machine.=20
Note: I ran into permissions issues when trying to delete the = non-working msoe.dll, so rather than fighting that, I renamed the Win7 Windows Mail directory to "Windows Mail-X", then I copied and pasted the Windows Mail directory from the Vista machine. I suspect that Windows Mail will = become less and less compatible with Win7 as time goes along.=20

When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am updating my computer and I thought it was finish but my computer restarts and I encountered the death blue screen. I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. It will just turn to blank screen with space at the upper left after if i will insert the installation disc.

View 4 Replies View RelatedThe last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.
The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.
Talking about preview images . Today i was running out of space on my disk and i cleaned some stuff.. You know, i can't remember the name right now but it is a ballon that recommends you to clean some unecessary programs.
The problem is , i erase something that made me preview images without opening.
I can't find a solution for this problem . I can't preview anything at all It's driving me around the bend.
I went to look for a message I sent on 10/24/09 and found all the items in my sent file are missing. Settings have not been changed so what has caused this problem.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with Windows Photo Gallery and viewing black & white images. The problem I am having is the white parts of the image seems to have an almost light blueish tint, and the black parts look like they were done using dark blue ink.
The thumbnail for the image, as well as opening it in paint and opening it in slideshow displays the image correctly.
So far, I attempted to fix this problem myself by changing my ICC profile in the color management settings multiple times, even rebooting my pc for some of the changes, as well as uninstalling my monitor drivers, with unsuccessful results. I do not know if this is an issue with my OS, my monitor, or my video card.
I recently did a clean install of Vista 64bit and installed an ATI Radeon HD 4350 card at the same time. I'm running a Dell LCD monitor at 1600x1200, its native resolution. I have checked the device manager and there are no warnings associated with the card and I have checked to be sure that I have the latest driver. Until the Vista install, I was using Windows XP Pro with no distortion. I had a gForce graphics card which was not supported in Vista. I'm a photographer and don't play any computer games. The problem is that all the images are squished some vertically. Even round graphics like circles are somewhat distorted vertically.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP image and a Vista image. I have a 240GB drive I spit into 2 partitions. So I want to be able to load the respective images, make necessary boot adjustments and get them both to boot with a menu. Tried this: Downloaded Vista to first partition. Downloaded XP to the 2nd partition (both with images). Copied ntdetect, ntldr, boot.ini to the vista root.
Modified boot.ini to what I thought was correct. Used EasyBCD to modify the Vista Boot Loader. I did get the menu correctly on reboot but got a 2nd menu with 2 entries (default). Both just reboot the PC. What did I do wrong? I read somewhere that the the nstall path get's built into ntldr, but that doesen't sound right.
my dodgy mail issue is back. Any HTML emails sent to me from Outlook appear as plain text and attachments are missing. I know for a fact that the gateway server they go through does NOT turn them into RTF or anything... It was all working fine and then it stopped. I am beginning to assume it's a problem intermittently caused by Norton AV (360 v3.0 I'm running). I have disabled email scanning but no dice.

I'm running Vista Ultimate on a Dell XPS1330 notebook. I used the Vista back up computer tool to make images of the system c: drive and a second data partition. These were written to a USB hard drive as H:ComputerNameBackup 2009-05-22 162639etc. I have since formatted and re-partitioned the on board hard drive and expected to be able to restore my system and data onto the new partitions. I have tried to restore from a Vista Recovery CD and from within Vista, after re-installing, but it always fails to see the backup.
I have also tried copying the back up folder onto a ntfs partition, but it still wasn't recognised.
In Windows Mail, I have the setting to block images set to on, so, whenever a message in html format arrives, if it has images and the sender was not set as trustable yet, it will block the images.
But, funny side is that the feature seems not to work for the junk emails which makes no sense at all. All my junk emails, if in html format and with images, images will be shown despite the setting.
Am I missing some other setting or this is supposed to be the right although odd behaviour for Windows Mail?
