Nov 1, 2009I was told to download an update for Windows Mail before installing Windows 7 on my Vista laptop. Where do I find the correct download?

Download As Windows Update?
Apr 26, 2009Running Vista Home Premium. When the SP 2 is released, will it simply ( automatically ) download as another typical Windows update? Or will I need to do more drastic measures?

If you like to stay on the bleeding edge of technology (and you’re running Vista) you may want to consider modifying two registry keys on your system so that you can participate in the Vista SP2 Beta program. To join the program all you have to do is download this batch file, and run it on your Vista machine as an administrator (right click - Run as administrator). Then just check for available Windows Updates (it may take 30 minutes or so for it to show up in the Windows Updates).
Think carefully whether you want to do this or not. There will likely be some bugs that could cause problems with your system, but at the very least it will cause Vista to expire on 4/2/2010 (or around then). Plus it will place the “Evaluation copy” message on your desktop wallpaper. You can always uninstall Vista SP2 to remove the evaluation message and expiration date, but it’s important to know what you’re getting into before you try to install it.
So what’s new in Vista SP2? Here’s a brief rundown that the Vista blog provided last week:Windows Vista SP2 adds Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches. Windows Vista SP2 contains the Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology. Ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Windows Vista. Adds Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration. Windows Vista SP2 enables the exFAT file system to support UTC timestamps, which allows correct file synchronization across time zones. Windows Vista SP2 is expected to be released in final form sometime in the first half of 2009. Judging by the expiration date of Vista SP2 Beta I’d say that sounds about right.

Windows Update Sp2 Download Trouble
Jul 30, 2009I'm considering installing SP2 on my XPS 420 PC using Windows Update. But I have some questions:
1. Windows Update calls it SP2, but is it really SP2 or just a release candidate (RC)? If so, should I wait awhile?
2. Reading the mail on this community suggests there are lots of problems with SP2. If so, should I wait--but how would I know when problems are fixed?
3. Will it mess up Windows Mail? (Mine works OK with, for example, AOL-generated e-mails.)
4. Earlier, I downloaded SP1 with no trouble. P.S. - I'm rather non-technical.
VISTA SP! - Download From Windows Update
Mar 26, 20081.. I have an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista Home Premium - Works like a gem and downloaded and installed SP1 easy as anything and all is fine.
2.. I have an ACER laptop that I installed Vista Ultimate on and it does all the download updates as necessary and works well.
3.. However, it seems NOT to want to know about downloading and installing SP1 - I have auto update switched on but SP1 never seems to be in the list of updates
4.. SP1 does not show on the summary of laptop either...so I assume it has NOT downloaded and installed SP1,Any ideas why it does not want to know about SP1? The laptop has 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk and a 128MB video card.....

Apr 10, 2008Is there a way, using IMAP, to limit Windows Mail to only deal with the most recent X messages? I have a GMail account with in the region of 24,000 messages but on a day to day basis, I'm only really interested in the most recent few hundred. Archiving isn't a solution as there are filters involved and an archived message with a filter applied is still in that filter, certain filters are up to thousands of messages as well. A most recent 200 messages option would be fantastic.

Mar 23, 2008I just purchased this laptop and created my email account. I verified with my web hoster that the email servers are pop3 and the server info is right (they can download into outlook express). the problem is that I can send emails from my computer using windows live mailer but I cannot receive them on my laptop. when I use the online web reader (horde) I can see new messages in my box. There are no errors shown when logging in, just the emails are not being grabbed from the server, what gives? I have norton's installed, but this doesn this when it is disabled too.

Using Windows Mail Abroad: Can Not Download Or Send E-mails
Mar 7, 2009My understanding of ISP mail servers is that when abroad (I'm UK based) I have to access my e-mail (for both sending and receiving) via my ISP's website and 'Web Mail'. Certainly this is the way I have always done it and, when I have tried to use Windows Mail 'normally', I can neither download nor send e-mails when abroad because I cannot connect to my ISPs mail server. I was in Fuerteventura a couple of weeks ago, however, and using Wi-Fi I accessed my Pipex WebMail.
I was working my way through my e-mails when suddenly they all vanished and my on-line Inbox was empty. I was completely baffled as to what had happened but was even more astonished when, after shutting down IE and opening Windows Mail, I found that all my vanished e-mails were in my Windows Mail inbox and had downloaded normally. I assumed that I had been mistaken about having to use Web Mail abroad and so tried sending an e-mail in the normal way - but got an error message about not being able to connect with the Pipex mail server.

Mar 23, 2008Again. Last time this happened, everyone blamed McAfee, so I killed McAfee and installed AVG Free which is good because it is free. But now I have exactly the same symptoms:
a) Won't download load messages from the server, tries, but eventually times out
b) Happens with Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail and Outlook 2007
I've now uninstalled AVGFree re-booted and the mail client(s) still stick at "downloading measage 1 of 65" then timeout after 180 seconds. here do I look next? Webmail is fine.XP and McAfee was rock solid problem free for years - Windows Mail performance is shocking even when working properly? My son bought a new Dell laptop last month with Vista , he has ripped out Vista, installed XPSP2 (he used MY spare licence!) and he works grief free. I've been using Vista for 6 months now - is time to quit and return to XP peace and stability?Oops I'm using an Acer 5630 laptop with 2GB of RAM Vista Home Premium, Intel Core Duo 1.66G CPU. At idle Vista is grabbing just less than1GB of RAM (I've only the standard gadgets running + IM, A/V is uninstalled while I try to get eMail working again. Is it me, but isn't an O/S that needs 2GB to run a basic suite of MS office applications reasonably well, a bit out of hand?

Ran Microsoft's Windows 7 Advisor....the Report shows under the PROGRAM section, Cisco PEAP MODULE 1.0.13 is not compatible. It shows update is available and when you click on it you go to a Cisco Site....but I couldn't find the download, for that matter, any downloads. Jun 10, 2008I need to download an Adobe Flash Player update. In the upper left corner a dialogue box opens up and asks me if I want to save the file. I click on save and that is the last I see of it. The dialogue box closes and I have no idea where the file is being saved to. I have used the search function and it always comes back that it cannot find the file I requested. Worse yet, Vista does not give me a choice as to where I want the file saved. I have drive C: drive D: on the primary HD. I have a drive G: on an external drive. I never had these type of problems when running XP Home on my previous computer. I have myself set up as administrator to try to avoid some of the roadblocks that Vista puts up.

May 12, 2010If you have installed Windows Mail on a Windows 7 computer,yesterday's update contains a KB978542 patch which changes msoe.dll so it won't run on Windows 7. I had warned about these types of issues when Win7 was first released. Microsoft claims it was done for security=20 reasons, see To get it working again, replace the new non-working copy of msoe.dll in Windows 7 with a copy of the new patched version of msoe.dll from a Vista machine.=20
Note: I ran into permissions issues when trying to delete the = non-working msoe.dll, so rather than fighting that, I renamed the Win7 Windows Mail directory to "Windows Mail-X", then I copied and pasted the Windows Mail directory from the Vista machine. I suspect that Windows Mail will = become less and less compatible with Win7 as time goes along.=20

Apr 11, 2008That is the message I get from the icon in my Vista tray. When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.

Feb 25, 2010I am updating my computer and I thought it was finish but my computer restarts and I encountered the death blue screen. I can't switch into safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with Command Prompt and Last Known good configuration. I don't know how to solve this problem because I can't get into any of the modes and even I inserted the installation disc I can't still see any repair computer or what. Apr 23, 2008Vista and Office 2003, I have 4 accounts on this computer that all connect to the same email account in Windows Mail. Everything was fine but now when I log onto one of the Windows accounts and go to Windows Mail I can't download or view attachements. When I try to download them it says I don't have enough disk space (90Gigs free) and the .pps icons aren't even the same as they are when I open that same email account with the other Windows accounts. Seems to be some sort of file association mix up or something. but I cant even download them which is weird? I hope I didn't make this too complicated and I hope to hear from someone soon!
