Is there a way, using IMAP, to limit Windows Mail to only deal with the most recent X messages? I have a GMail account with in the region of 24,000 messages but on a day to day basis, I'm only really interested in the most recent few hundred. Archiving isn't a solution as there are filters involved and an archived message with a filter applied is still in that filter, certain filters are up to thousands of messages as well. A most recent 200 messages option would be fantastic.

I just purchased this laptop and created my email account. I verified with my web hoster that the email servers are pop3 and the server info is right (they can download into outlook express). the problem is that I can send emails from my computer using windows live mailer but I cannot receive them on my laptop. when I use the online web reader (horde) I can see new messages in my box. There are no errors shown when logging in, just the emails are not being grabbed from the server, what gives? I have norton's installed, but this doesn this when it is disabled too.

she is trying to download Trend PC-cillin virus control program. she has only until May 11 to get it done or she will lose her $49.95. she keeps getting a message that the download cannot be completed while Windows Mail is running. We have everything we can think of; called Trend, was referred to Microsoft and cannot find a thing there to help. How do we get Windows Mail to quit, or shutdown, so the download can be finished? She doesn't even use Windows mail and cannot even find the listing for it on Programs, or in the Add/Delete list in the Control Panel.

I am having problems downloading IMAP folders into Windows Mail. It asks me for a username and password, so I enter my details as per login into webmail. However, it says the following: "The server has rejected your login. Please verify that your username and password are correct. Login failed.
Protocol: IMAP
Port: 143
Secure SSL: 0

Vista and Office 2003, I have 4 accounts on this computer that all connect to the same email account in Windows Mail. Everything was fine but now when I log onto one of the Windows accounts and go to Windows Mail I can't download or view attachements. When I try to download them it says I don't have enough disk space (90Gigs free) and the .pps icons aren't even the same as they are when I open that same email account with the other Windows accounts. Seems to be some sort of file association mix up or something. but I cant even download them which is weird? I hope I didn't make this too complicated and I hope to hear from someone soon!

My understanding of ISP mail servers is that when abroad (I'm UK based) I have to access my e-mail (for both sending and receiving) via my ISP's website and 'Web Mail'. Certainly this is the way I have always done it and, when I have tried to use Windows Mail 'normally', I can neither download nor send e-mails when abroad because I cannot connect to my ISPs mail server. I was in Fuerteventura a couple of weeks ago, however, and using Wi-Fi I accessed my Pipex WebMail.
I was working my way through my e-mails when suddenly they all vanished and my on-line Inbox was empty. I was completely baffled as to what had happened but was even more astonished when, after shutting down IE and opening Windows Mail, I found that all my vanished e-mails were in my Windows Mail inbox and had downloaded normally. I assumed that I had been mistaken about having to use Web Mail abroad and so tried sending an e-mail in the normal way - but got an error message about not being able to connect with the Pipex mail server.

Again. Last time this happened, everyone blamed McAfee, so I killed McAfee and installed AVG Free which is good because it is free. But now I have exactly the same symptoms:
a) Won't download load messages from the server, tries, but eventually times out
b) Happens with Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail and Outlook 2007
I've now uninstalled AVGFree re-booted and the mail client(s) still stick at "downloading measage 1 of 65" then timeout after 180 seconds. here do I look next? Webmail is fine.XP and McAfee was rock solid problem free for years - Windows Mail performance is shocking even when working properly? My son bought a new Dell laptop last month with Vista , he has ripped out Vista, installed XPSP2 (he used MY spare licence!) and he works grief free. I've been using Vista for 6 months now - is time to quit and return to XP peace and stability?Oops I'm using an Acer 5630 laptop with 2GB of RAM Vista Home Premium, Intel Core Duo 1.66G CPU. At idle Vista is grabbing just less than1GB of RAM (I've only the standard gadgets running + IM, A/V is uninstalled while I try to get eMail working again. Is it me, but isn't an O/S that needs 2GB to run a basic suite of MS office applications reasonably well, a bit out of hand?

I recently discovered that the addresses in Windows Mail only auto completes 29 address. Dave suggested that I download Windows Live Mail the desktop version (not hotmail which apparently I am confusing it with). What is the website to download Windows Live Mail Desktop and is it free?? Please give me a link to the website, I cannot find it and I am confused. Right now I have Windows Mail Desktop that comes with Windows Vista. So I want the desktop windows live version

I read on a couple different sites don't ask which ones can't remember I think Threatfire was one of them, that having 1 to 2 antivirus programs running was a good thing. That the second one would catch things that the first one might miss. So I'm gathering that this isn't true? I did look on the Kaspersky web page last night as I saw it listed on another firewall question and thought it looked pretty good. So which is better? Kaspersky Internet Suite, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, or this AVG one. I do want to purchase the whole program as the free trials only last for 30 days.

The version of Vista I use, running IE7, cannot download .exes. My XP computers, running IEs 7 and 8, and once 6, have never been so irritating. (i'd say my faith in vista is dwindling, but it was never there to begin with.) I've tries to download many a .exe. This time, for reference, it's Ventrilo. Certainly not a shady program - trusted by supposed millions. When prompted, if I click Run, the file appears to download, but when it has finished, the dialog box disappears and nothing else appears.Ever.
When prompted, if I click Save, the file appears to download, but when it has finished, the dialog box disappears and nothing else appears. Not even the file, at the location I saved it. There is no error message. There is no message of any sort. Repeated attempts to download do nothing. Renaming the download to .ok, or some other name (in anticipation of renaming it to .exe once downloaded), as suggested in a previous thread, does not work. I have tried temporarily turning off certain securities, to no avail.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium. Windows Updates wants me install Service Pack 1.
1) I am up-to-date with Windows Updates, so do I really need the Service Pack?
2) Also, isn't it just going to take up unnecessary hard drive space since most of the fixes in SP1 were already downloaded by Windows Updates?
3) Does SP1 automatically not install whatever is already on the computer?

I followed the tut here -> http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/11...ate-1-rc1.html
Got all the prereq installed. Then after waiting the 10-15, I acutally had dinner and came back started to d/l the SP. It got to 6% and stopped, sat there for a while and then failed with a code of 80070002. Click on the get help link and followed the instructions for clearing out the Software Distribution folder.
Then I checked for updates again. Did the same thing, stopped and failed at 6%. This time I clicked the 'Try Again' button. This time after hanging out for a while it went to 19%. But then it failed AGAIN! If I try again it just stays at 19%.
I figured that maybe the server is overwhelmed. It was 9pm EST or so. I tried again here at 5:15am figuring that most of the US is in a coma at this time. Same results.
Any ideas on how to get this SP? I'm plum out of ideas!
I'm down for anything, just to get this to work! Why did they have to change the way SP where handled? The d/l from a URL was just fine!

I have read many persons posts, but none have been quite the same as mine. With many tips, but no further explanations for the questions I have. I have a DELL Ispiron with Vista Home Basic 32bit and I use Internet Explorer. I am able to download absolutely nothing from the internet. I have a feeling it has something to do with the incorrect installation of AVG. A week ago, I wanted to try a different sercurity program, while keeping AVG. I downloaded Online Armour from cnet.com and after a couple of days uninstalled because I didnt like it. I figured I would just update AVG 8 to AVG 9, so I went to AVG Free - Download installation files & documentation, I think I should have downloaded the recommended installation, but instead I selected "intallation files" and selected one of those options. Now it list in my program files AVG 8 and AVG 9. In my programs, selected Windows Start>Programs, it list AVG 8.5. Now I read somewhere, a person with practically the same problem, that I could uninstall and then reinstall AVG and the problem could possibly be fixed. Also if problem persisted to try uninstalling AVG while in Safe Mode. I could do neither. Under program files AVG 8, selected Windows Start>Computer>Hard drive(C)>Program Files>AVG>AVG 8>setup, has a setup option. But when selected reads, setup window:Installation failed. Then selected Details reads, setup window:Installer initialization failed due to following error: Error: @AvgErrorCode_0x0253 %FILE% = "C:Program FilesAVGAVG8" @AvgErrorCode_0x0020
Under program files AVG 9, selected Windows Start>Computer>Hard drive(C)>Program Files>AVG>AVG 9, has no setup option, I assume I did not install the correct file, my mistake. Under my programs, selected Windows Start>All Programs>AVG Free 8.5>Unistall AVG Free, it list AVG 8.5 and when I try to uninstall the the same error occurs. I dont know if this is the reasoning for my issue but this is when the problem started. However I would still like to know how to remove AVG as well as the initial "fix." If this possible, should I delete the AVG program files one by one, just by right clicking on them and deleting? I also tried to run a System Restore thinking it would go back to a previous date before I changed anything, but the earliest date I could choose from was not soon enough. It did nothing except remove some updates and a toolbar that had been installed. Also, I am unable to install updates, I assume its because they use the internet to do so, idk.

Haven't been able to download a program off the net since. Says my current security settings won't allow. Have tried putting sites in trusted zone(lowest security setting), allowed cookies, turned off protected mode. Nothing seems to work. Tried to get firefox. won't let me. Also is there any way to shut off all the warnings at the top of the page. They are more annoying than the popups. I don't need a babysitter, I need a web browser. btw, vista 32 premium
