I would like to download Windows Mail, hopefully to read newsgroups. I am running Windows 7 on this PC. Trouble is I am confused about where I can do this. I would rather not have Windows Live.Mail

Up until about 5 days ago I could retrieve mail from this account but I now cannot
Is there a way, using IMAP, to limit Windows Mail to only deal with the most recent X messages? I have a GMail account with in the region of 24,000 messages but on a day to day basis, I'm only really interested in the most recent few hundred. Archiving isn't a solution as there are filters involved and an archived message with a filter applied is still in that filter, certain filters are up to thousands of messages as well. A most recent 200 messages option would be fantastic.

I verified with my web hoster that the email servers are pop3 and the server info is right (they can download into outlook express). the problem is that I can send emails from my computer using windows live mailer but I cannot receive them on my laptop. when I use the online web reader (horde) I can see new messages in my box. There are no errors shown when logging in, just the emails are not being grabbed from the server, what gives? I have norton's installed, but this doesn this when it is disabled too.

We have everything we can think of; called Trend, was referred to Microsoft and cannot find a thing there to help. How do we get Windows Mail to quit, or shutdown, so the download can be finished? She doesn't even use Windows mail and cannot even find the listing for it on Programs, or in the Add/Delete list in the Control Panel.

My understanding of ISP mail servers is that when abroad (I'm UK based) I have to access my e-mail (for both sending and receiving) via my ISP's website and 'Web Mail'. Certainly this is the way I have always done it and, when I have tried to use Windows Mail 'normally', I can neither download nor send e-mails when abroad because I cannot connect to my ISPs mail server. I was in Fuerteventura a couple of weeks ago, however, and using Wi-Fi I accessed my Pipex WebMail.
I was working my way through my e-mails when suddenly they all vanished and my on-line Inbox was empty. I was completely baffled as to what had happened but was even more astonished when, after shutting down IE and opening Windows Mail, I found that all my vanished e-mails were in my Windows Mail inbox and had downloaded normally. I assumed that I had been mistaken about having to use Web Mail abroad and so tried sending an e-mail in the normal way - but got an error message about not being able to connect with the Pipex mail server.
Again. Last time this happened, everyone blamed McAfee, so I killed McAfee and installed AVG Free which is good because it is free. But now I have exactly the same symptoms:
a) Won't download load messages from the server, tries, but eventually times out
b) Happens with Windows Mail, Windows Live Mail and Outlook 2007
I've now uninstalled AVGFree re-booted and the mail client(s) still stick at "downloading measage 1 of 65" then timeout after 180 seconds. here do I look next? Webmail is fine.XP and McAfee was rock solid problem free for years - Windows Mail performance is shocking even when working properly? My son bought a new Dell laptop last month with Vista , he has ripped out Vista, installed XPSP2 (he used MY spare licence!) and he works grief free. I've been using Vista for 6 months now - is time to quit and return to XP peace and stability?Oops I'm using an Acer 5630 laptop with 2GB of RAM Vista Home Premium, Intel Core Duo 1.66G CPU. At idle Vista is grabbing just less than1GB of RAM (I've only the standard gadgets running + IM, A/V is uninstalled while I try to get eMail working again. Is it me, but isn't an O/S that needs 2GB to run a basic suite of MS office applications reasonably well, a bit out of hand?
I recently discovered that the addresses in Windows Mail only auto completes 29 address. Dave suggested that I download Windows Live Mail the desktop version (not hotmail which apparently I am confusing it with). What is the website to download Windows Live Mail Desktop and is it free?? View 6 Replies View RelatedVista and Office 2003, I have 4 accounts on this computer that all connect to the same email account in Windows Mail. Everything was fine but now when I log onto one of the Windows accounts and go to Windows Mail I can't download or view attachements. When I try to download them it says I don't have enough disk space (90Gigs free) and the .pps icons aren't even the same as they are when I open that same email account with the other Windows accounts. Seems to be some sort of file association mix up or something. but I cant even download them which is weird? I hope I didn't make this too complicated and I hope to hear from someone soon!

View 9 Replies View Relatedi use this way to download Internet vids. i'm very happy to share with you. please also reply with your method. the software i'm using is called moyea flv downloader. it is a freeware. install and start the downloader. you needn't get the url when downloading the vid. press "start recording".
click in the page where the vid is playing. the downloader will automatically save it to your hard drive. then you can watch it with the embeded flv player. you can search "flv downloader" on google.com for more info. looking forward to your replies.
Running Vista Home Premium. When the SP 2 is released, will it simply ( automatically ) download as another typical Windows update? Or will I need to do more drastic measures?

If you like to stay on the bleeding edge of technology (and you’re running Vista) you may want to consider modifying two registry keys on your system so that you can participate in the Vista SP2 Beta program. To join the program all you have to do is download this batch file, and run it on your Vista machine as an administrator (right click - Run as administrator). Then just check for available Windows Updates (it may take 30 minutes or so for it to show up in the Windows Updates).
Think carefully whether you want to do this or not. There will likely be some bugs that could cause problems with your system, but at the very least it will cause Vista to expire on 4/2/2010 (or around then). Plus it will place the “Evaluation copy” message on your desktop wallpaper. You can always uninstall Vista SP2 to remove the evaluation message and expiration date, but it’s important to know what you’re getting into before you try to install it.
So what’s new in Vista SP2? Here’s a brief rundown that the Vista blog provided last week:Windows Vista SP2 adds Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches. Windows Vista SP2 contains the Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology. Ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Windows Vista. Adds Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration. Windows Vista SP2 enables the exFAT file system to support UTC timestamps, which allows correct file synchronization across time zones. Windows Vista SP2 is expected to be released in final form sometime in the first half of 2009. Judging by the expiration date of Vista SP2 Beta I’d say that sounds about right.

This above has not worked for me. I have a 64bit vista under parameters they have dword which is for 32bit and qword for 64bit I chose qword but i was not able to type in IRPStactSize so I'm stuck. I just bought a pc to tv software and the requirements to watch it is that I have to have the latest media player 11 which I already have and the latest real player which I already have and .NET framework 2.0 which I already have and you have to have windows installer 3.1 which I do not have. View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been getting very slow download speeds on vista and have done everything I could to fix it. I have disabled the tcp auto tuning following this guide, turned off the QoS thing following this guide, turned off my phishing filter and firewall, switched over to a static IP, and maybe some other stuff i cant remember but in the end I still get terrible download speeds compared to my computer that runs XP I went to speedtest.net to make sure I wasnt crazy...Vista: ~750 download XP: ~11600 download the upload and ping were the same.
Both computers are wireless (same distance from router) but I think that my be where the problem lies...I have a linksys wireless pci card and they apparently dont have drivers for my card for 64 bit vista, so I found this post and was able to get a driver to get my card working and get online. Im not saying this is the problem but just throwing it out there just incase it may be.So my question is what could be the cause of my slow downloading and what can I do to fix it?
I'm considering installing SP2 on my XPS 420 PC using Windows Update. But I have some questions:
1. Windows Update calls it SP2, but is it really SP2 or just a release candidate (RC)? If so, should I wait awhile?
2. Reading the mail on this community suggests there are lots of problems with SP2. If so, should I wait--but how would I know when problems are fixed?
3. Will it mess up Windows Mail? (Mine works OK with, for example, AOL-generated e-mails.)
4. Earlier, I downloaded SP1 with no trouble. P.S. - I'm rather non-technical.
1.. I have an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista Home Premium - Works like a gem and downloaded and installed SP1 easy as anything and all is fine.
2.. I have an ACER laptop that I installed Vista Ultimate on and it does all the download updates as necessary and works well.
3.. However, it seems NOT to want to know about downloading and installing SP1 - I have auto update switched on but SP1 never seems to be in the list of updates
4.. SP1 does not show on the summary of laptop either...so I assume it has NOT downloaded and installed SP1,Any ideas why it does not want to know about SP1? The laptop has 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk and a 128MB video card.....
When I try to perform a wndows update, my 9 month old HP notebook keeps getting hung up or says the download failed. It just says it's downloading the updates but continually says 0 KB total and 0% complete, that goes unchanged for HOURS! I eventually have to stop the download but have several important updates that are waiting to be installed. I dont know what to do. HP says I must remove all saved document and file data and reinstall the whole operating system.

I am running Windows VISTA Ultimate x64, do not have the original disk with me as i brought this computer to work on to my vacation spot to do some work. After running a botched program, I got a msg saying the computer would restart automaticly. Having extensive windows knowledge I know this is never a good situation to be in. I am using a windows x64 boot disk that i found from neosmart as I do not have access to the original disk.
