if i format my notebook with all files (windows vista) and i have that certificate on the back notebook with serial nuber. can i download somewhere new copy vista?? or i must buy new one ?
View 9 RepliesI have a laptop, which came with vista x86 home premium. However, the laptop didn't come with a copy of the OS. It came with an imaging program from which I made an image of the bloatware infested drive. That backup...is damaged. There is a legitimate home premium x86 license associated with the comp, but I do not have a way to reinstall my OS. What I read on a different forum, was that any copy of x86 home premium would do...But I need to download a copy of it to install. I'm not interested in a cracked version of the OS...just an ISO image of a legitimate copy of hp x86. I don't want to buy a new version of the OS...a nominal fee would be ok, but not a whole OEM edition.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi just spent $420.00 for 2 additional vista ultimate 64 sp1 oem disks from microcenter for my kids. i just finished installing vista64,drivers...etc on one of them. i brought the pc into my other room where my modem is to activate it & download updates. it activated perfectly and is currently downloading the latest updates. here's the kicker......there is a watermark in the bottom right corner of the desktop that says Windows Vista(TM) Build 6001 This copy of Windows is not genuine ???? i'm lost for words.

View 5 Replies View RelatedVaio Laptop that was in desperate need of a wipe and reinstall. Unfortunately she didn't know where her Vaio's copy of Windows Vista Premium was. While I was at my campus bookstore, I asked them if they had a copy of just the media itself as I already had my sister's Vaio license. They sold me a copy of the Ultimate version for $20 or $40 dollars, I don't remember how much exactly. I knew that the Ultimate version had all the versions, including the Premium version my sister had a license for. I used Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to look up her license which I e-mailed to myself. I reinstalled Vista which installed as the Premium version, just as I expected. Five to six hours later I had everything set up. I thought everything was activated and working just fine. I was wrong.
And now a week later, my sister brings me her laptop and complains herbackground is gone. The operating system had reverted itself to its limited "Illegal State". Frustrated and not wanting to spend another five hours redoing it all, I tried using the license that came on the back of the CD that I got at my campus bookstore which Windows refused. It won't allow me to upgrade to Ultimate either. What is my best solution at this point? Will Microsoft support me in this? Can I get a disc replacement from Vaio? The last thing we want to do is have to buy another license. I don't know if if its okay to use the license that came on the back of my Ultimate disc either.

2.. I have an ACER laptop that I installed Vista Ultimate on and it does all the download updates as necessary and works well.
3.. However, it seems NOT to want to know about downloading and installing SP1 - I have auto update switched on but SP1 never seems to be in the list of updates
4.. SP1 does not show on the summary of laptop either...so I assume it has NOT downloaded and installed SP1,Any ideas why it does not want to know about SP1? The laptop has 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk and a 128MB video card.....
I have a Windows 2003 R2 x64 (all current SPs and updates installed) and 3 Windows Vista machines (also al X64 versions). When trying to copy a (large - maybe 50MB +) file from the Windows 2003 Server to the Vista Machines (the Server Shared folder is mapped to a drive in Vista) - I will get an error like "There is a problem access I:igfile.txt - make sure you are connected to the Network and try again" Once in a while I will see "Error 0x8007003A" I can copy those files just fine from Windows 2003 to another Windows 2003 machine or Windows XP machines...

I am running Windows VISTA Ultimate x64, do not have the original disk with me as i brought this computer to work on to my vacation spot to do some work. After running a botched program, I got a msg saying the computer would restart automaticly. Having extensive windows knowledge I know this is never a good situation to be in. I am using a windows x64 boot disk that i found from neosmart as I do not have access to the original disk.

I have a legally obtained retail copy of Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit). Shortly after first purchasing it, I installed it as a secondary OS via Apples Boot Camp utility onto an iMac Aluminum. Later on, I obtained a new Gateway notebook that came with Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) pre-installed. Wishing to replace the 64-bit pre-installed version of Windows Home Premium with a freshly installed 32-bit version, I did so using the aforementioned legally obtained retail disc without error. When the time came to activate windows on the new notebook, I was informed that I would have to either purchase a secondary license for the product or activate the product through Microsofts phone activation service. I chose the latter and Vista was up and running with a successful activation soon after. Unbeknownst to me and pointed out later by a friend, this was apparently an illegal means of activating my copy of Vista Home Premium on the new notebook because the Vista EULA specifically denotes that only one computer may be graced with this licensed copy at any time. I am concerned about the legality and/or consequences of this, even though I explained the situation to Microsoft during the activation process and the representative I was speaking with did not seem to have an issue with it. Does anyone have any insight on this? Should I uninstall Vista from my iMac so that only my new notebook is running the licensed copy? I have talked with Microsoft support about this and they succeeded only in confusing me further.

I am new to Vista and in my work I write small programs In WinXP when I wish to copy a folder to all users I would use. For the Desktop screens: COPY C:FOLDERNAME C:Documents And SettingsALL USERSDESKTOPFOLDERNAME where FOLDERNAME is the folder containing icons and stuff. Now I wish to do the same to Vista and Windows desktop. I need to copy to "ALL USERS" as when installing I would not know the name of the users , so it is best to send to ALL USERS in that computer. Hope someone here can assist let me know the exact instructions required to do the same for Vista or Windows 7?
I have a problem that I am unable to download things. I click download and the bar fills up with blue and it says saving to desktop, but when I click to the desktop, nothing has downloaded. I have tried using 'run' instead of save and the blue bar fills up and it says saving to temporary folder, but then nothing. I can't open e-mail attachements that need downloading or download any thing from the net at all.I have tried several system restores to various different dates and got something to save to the desktop once, but now anything I try and download doesn't download.I have tried running the computer in safe mode with networking but the problem still occurs. I have also tried resetting internet explorer, but again that does nothing. i have tried sfc /scannow , but it came up with no violations or errors. PLEASE do not ask me to download another OS, as I can't download anything!!!!
