I purchased my Vista through the Windows website and used the download option. I would like to have a hard copy installation disc. Is it possible to create a Vista disc from the download files?
View 2 RepliesI've read just about every thread about vista not booting and am completely at a loss. I am running Windows VISTA Ultimate x64, do not have the original disk with me as i brought this computer to work on to my vacation spot to do some work. After running a botched program, I got a msg saying the computer would restart automaticly. Having extensive windows knowledge I know this is never a good situation to be in. I am using a windows x64 boot disk that i found from neosmart as I do not have access to the original disk.

I have tried every option in recovery options. Just to clarify, after everything posts, without errors, I get a black screen with a white cursor that moves down a few lines and doesn't do anything after that.......
I bought a new pc with Vista-64 ultimate OEM installed. But now I discovered that I cannot use it, because I need Cisco VPN IPSec Client to connect to work, and Cisco does not support Vista 64. So my question is. Can I get a refund on Vista, or a credit toward purchase of XP Pro, or can I resell Vista to someone else?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire laptop which the user password was changed and forgotten, also all other accounts were deleted. I am unable to do ANYTHING with this computer now. We bought a new laptop, but want to get the pics and music of the HD. Any ideas on how to get those files, or how to get passed the password? I've tried the password reset disc downloaded online, but didn't work.

She has already paid for vista so is there a way of getting the vista disc (for her pc) for free?? if so/if not where can i get one and will this work ok??
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just built a new computer and am trying to load and DVD OEM Vista ultimate x64 OS. I have 4 SATA hard disks and 1 SATA Sony bdu-x10s blu-ray drive. I have configured the 4 HDDs in Bios for RAID0. I also set BIOS to boot from the Sony drive only.
When I put the Vista disk in and power on the computer I notice that it loads the HDDs very quickly and sits on the Sony for a long time ~30 seconds. then it checks the disk and says no bootable media found. I observed that if I remove the disk and power on the computer the Sony drive loads just as quickly as the HDDs
I am wondering what version of Vista Ultimate I should purchase.I assume that the Ultimate is better than the Premium that I have installed on another PC? I want to install it on a home PC with a full installation.I was also wondering if there is any advantage or limitations if I purchased a full OEM vs a full retail version? I used to have XP OEM version on a PC and it had a limit of five reloads before you had to contact Microsoft to ask for another activation beyond that.

I can replace the hard drive no problem, but don't want to fork over the $$$ for a new Vista OS. I have XP pro, but there seems to be too many issues with downgrading. I have the COA on the bottom of the computer. Since the OS was definitely paid for with the original purchase, can I get an OS from MS for this computer?

I suppose I am chasing a moot point, however here's the deal. I run a small lighting and sound company. I have 8 different computers configured for different things as far as shows are concerned. Just built 2 biostar TA780g rigs with ati dual x850 cards. AMD4600x2 for a cpu, ram at 4gig. Vista 32 "ultimate" sp1. These are to replace some older socket a stuff and none of them do games but we DO extensive 3d video displays at theaters, live band venues and so on. Too many problems with intel, nvidia and our apps, so we are all amd / ati here.
Yesterday while managing some fresh mp3 rips with a program called Tagscanner, which I have used for years, got a bsod, and when everything came back all was well except that Vista changed everything to read only. we are talking about over 300,000 assorted mp3's,music video files, Karaoke cdg files, and xml lighting scene files that i can no longer do anything with spread across four harddrives. since the software apps we use make extensive use of the write-rewrite xmls constantly,now two of our apps lockup on startup. I would not even be here except that the 780g chipset and nvidia geforce 8 and up require dx10 to function at full potential.
So my questions:
1. Does anyone know anything about regaining control over disc management properties in vista?
2. ive heard rumors that there are ways of getting dx10 to run on xp, and it's still in its experimental stages. ANY GOOD info on that would be welcome- two sites i hit last night got me some nice trojans. But if it is real, I am sooooo back to ................

I click download and the bar fills up with blue and it says saving to desktop, but when I click to the desktop, nothing has downloaded. I have tried using 'run' instead of save and the blue bar fills up and it says saving to temporary folder, but then nothing. I can't open e-mail attachements that need downloading or download any thing from the net at all.I have tried several system restores to various different dates and got something to save to the desktop once, but now anything I try and download doesn't download.I have tried running the computer in safe mode with networking but the problem still occurs. I have also tried resetting internet explorer, but again that does nothing. i have tried sfc /scannow , but it came up with no violations or errors. PLEASE do not ask me to download another OS, as I can't download anything!!!!

2.. I have an ACER laptop that I installed Vista Ultimate on and it does all the download updates as necessary and works well.
3.. However, it seems NOT to want to know about downloading and installing SP1 - I have auto update switched on but SP1 never seems to be in the list of updates
4.. SP1 does not show on the summary of laptop either...so I assume it has NOT downloaded and installed SP1,Any ideas why it does not want to know about SP1? The laptop has 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk and a 128MB video card.....

I upgraded to the Ultimate through "Upgrade" and it was successful. But I lent the DVD to a friend, and I have now realised I want to reinstall. I have a non-bootable exact copy of the bootable disc. I can start fresh install from inside Windows, but I am wondering if it will work.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi ask if someone may know of a way to create a bootable USB flash drive with a OEM Vista recovery CD. coz as you know now adays laptops have a recovery cd which is liable to be lost or scratched and the worse senario is when you had deleted the recovery partition. in that case your only hope is to order a new set of recovery cd from manufacturer which in my case didnt restore the recovery partition thats why i need to recover the system from an usb flash drive.

View 9 Replies View Relatedthe thread title says it all: I'm looking for a lightweight bootable command prompt which supports ntfs drives and supports x64 command line tools. Something like Freedos x64 or command.com x64 (if they existed which unfortunately they don't).
So far, all I can do is to boot into Windows' own command shell, but this is far from being lightweight. Every Linux supports booting into a pure command line mode, so there must be something similar for Windows with x64 support. Basically, the recovery console would suffice if it allowed using external command line tools, but afaik this is not the case.
I had a fire a few months back which burnt my Acer T180 case. I've managed to change the case and get all the parts working again except the DVD rom which was melted and beyond repair. As my whole house is wireless I'm not really bothered about getting a new DVD rom - my other PC controls the network and has a DVD writer inside. Once vista is installed the network will take care of everything.
My problem now is how do I reinstall Vista on a PC that has no DVD rom to read my Vista DVD. OK I could swap my DVD around for a few hours by its covered in warranty void stickers and as its new I don't want to risk anything. Is there anyway to convert a Bootable DVD into a Bootable USB drive? I've got a 4 Gig stick which should be fine. My motherboard also boots from USB. I've managed to make a copy of the vista DVD into ISO image but can't find a program that will put the ISO onto a USB drive.
I got vista given to me *_Leagly_* by a friend and have bought a serial. I want to make a copy of the disc incase the other one gets damaged. I just copied the files of the disc from the oringal disc from my dvd drive to another DVD-RW disc in another DVD-RW Drive. All the files are on there and when i run setup from an OS (like XP since i have vista and xp dual booting on my pc) it works fine. But when i try to boot from it it wont boot. I have set my DVD Drive to my 1st boot device and it will boot from the oringal alright but not the copied one. What am i doing wrong?
I currently dont have access to the oringal at this time but i have the files on the copied one. What do i have to do too the disc to make it bootable. i no this is vista 64 forums but mine is 32 bit. I dont want crapy posts from people saying anything about piracy and i tryied googleing it but without avale.
