May 25, 2008My friend just bought an Acer computer with Vista SP1 on it. It came with no literature or CDs. Is there a way he can make a bootable CD with Vista Sp1 on it for emergencies?

Make Drive Bootable?
Mar 26, 2008I have a dual boot setup where I boot from the first HD and start XP/Vista. Vista is installed on a separate disk. I don't use XP at all and want to remove that disk, but then I need to make the Vista disk bootable. The Vista install is on a raid volume. I googled a little bit and found some information about bootrec and tried to boot from the DVD and tried /fixboot, but nothing happens. When I load the recovery console it doesn't display any Vista installations, so I wasn't very surprised that bootrec failed. I then proceeded to load the driver for the raid controller, but still no installations are displayed. Is there a simple way to make a disk bootable for Vista - on a raid volume?

Jul 30, 2009I just built a new computer and am trying to load and DVD OEM Vista ultimate x64 OS. I have 4 SATA hard disks and 1 SATA Sony bdu-x10s blu-ray drive. I have configured the 4 HDDs in Bios for RAID0. I also set BIOS to boot from the Sony drive only.
When I put the Vista disk in and power on the computer I notice that it loads the HDDs very quickly and sits on the Sony for a long time ~30 seconds. then it checks the disk and says no bootable media found. I observed that if I remove the disk and power on the computer the Sony drive loads just as quickly as the HDDs
How Can Make Vista Use All Of RAM
Jan 12, 2010I am concerned that Vista is not taking advantage of my RAM. I have searched high and low for an answer, but all I find are posts by people complaining that Vista uses all their RAM, and the obvious responses that Vista _should_ use all their RAM. My problem is that I have a 64-bit system with 8 GB of RAM, and Vista only ever seems to use about 2.5 GB of it. I notice quite slow performance, for example, when I use Firefox with 80 tabs or so, but RAM usage is still relatively low. Of course my pagefile.sys is always an 8 GB file when I check. How can I make Vista use all of my RAM? I should be getting better performance.

I have a USB Logitech mouse. For reasons too lengthy to get into here, I want to hook it up via PS2.
So, I hooked it up with an adaptor. On bootup, the computer appears to recognize the mouse, as PS2 detection is enabled in the BIOS and the mouse's red light comes on.
However, when I get to my login page of Vista, the mouse doesn't work to control the pointer, and the red light is off. Even when I used the keyboard to just hit enter and log in as the "guest," the pointer will not respond when I got to the desktop.
Do I need to 'activate' the PS2 in Vista somehow?

Jan 17, 2009I'm one of those users who has been using Vista with no problems ever since Microsoft gave out RTM copies to beta testers. However, as a writer, I've watched the media completely destroy the public opinion of Vista, leading many to stick with Windows XP or to look for alternatives, even before they had tried Vista. Even with SP1 out, many have not bothered trying Vista on recent hardware and therefore could not realize the fact that it really is worthy of being XP's successor. If I had to lay the blame on one party for Vista's poor public opinion, I wouldn't lay it on Microsoft, I wouldn't lay it on hardware companies incapable of producing good drivers, I wouldn't lay it on the fact that XP is so good, I would lay it on the media for blowing things out of proportions.
Yes, the problem is exaggeration (it's in this article's title too, in case you missed it); bloggers and journalists alike use their personal experiences to prove their point in their writing. The blame doesn't solely lie with us, as Vista was by no means perfect, but we did manage to amplify the problems beyond reason. And if the beta is anything to go by, Windows 7 is going to fly. I have (for years) used MSN Premium software as my email program. Now, it seems I can't make this my default email program with Vista. I am going nuts! I have spoken to MSN support who tell me to do the same things over and over. I have also spoken to Microsoft support who told me I have to use Outlook or Windows Live mail instead.
It's really hard. I have taught my elderly parents how to use the MSN software and now we have to change - or do we? I've tried the email settings in MSN itself, I've tried associations for programs in Vista and also the default programs. Nothing is working. Surely, one Microsoft program should work with another? We pay for this software so that we can also have sub accounts on our email more storage than the usual hotmail space.

Feb 13, 2010the thread title says it all: I'm looking for a lightweight bootable command prompt which supports ntfs drives and supports x64 command line tools. Something like Freedos x64 or command.com x64 (if they existed which unfortunately they don't).
So far, all I can do is to boot into Windows' own command shell, but this is far from being lightweight. Every Linux supports booting into a pure command line mode, so there must be something similar for Windows with x64 support. Basically, the recovery console would suffice if it allowed using external command line tools, but afaik this is not the case.
Install Via Bootable USB Drive
May 7, 2008I had a fire a few months back which burnt my Acer T180 case. I've managed to change the case and get all the parts working again except the DVD rom which was melted and beyond repair. As my whole house is wireless I'm not really bothered about getting a new DVD rom - my other PC controls the network and has a DVD writer inside. Once vista is installed the network will take care of everything.
My problem now is how do I reinstall Vista on a PC that has no DVD rom to read my Vista DVD. OK I could swap my DVD around for a few hours by its covered in warranty void stickers and as its new I don't want to risk anything. Is there anyway to convert a Bootable DVD into a Bootable USB drive? I've got a 4 Gig stick which should be fine. My motherboard also boots from USB. I've managed to make a copy of the vista DVD into ISO image but can't find a program that will put the ISO onto a USB drive.
Bootable DVD Wont Boot
Apr 12, 2008I got vista given to me *_Leagly_* by a friend and have bought a serial. I want to make a copy of the disc incase the other one gets damaged. I just copied the files of the disc from the oringal disc from my dvd drive to another DVD-RW disc in another DVD-RW Drive. All the files are on there and when i run setup from an OS (like XP since i have vista and xp dual booting on my pc) it works fine. But when i try to boot from it it wont boot. I have set my DVD Drive to my 1st boot device and it will boot from the oringal alright but not the copied one. What am i doing wrong?
I currently dont have access to the oringal at this time but i have the files on the copied one. What do i have to do too the disc to make it bootable. i no this is vista 64 forums but mine is 32 bit. I dont want crapy posts from people saying anything about piracy and i tryied googleing it but without avale.

So I installed another Vista to another partition, but the problem is that the new Vista doesn't have the files required to boot because the older partition has. So how can I make my C: (new Vista) as bootable and delete D: (old Vista)?
