After encountering problems with vista I delted the vista partition and resized the xp partition back to it's original size. I am now stuck with the windows vista boot loader which persistantly telling me that the windows vista files are not present etc. etc. Is there any way that I can delted the vista bootloader and go back to using the xp bootloader?

While I was at my campus bookstore, I asked them if they had a copy of just the media itself as I already had my sister's Vaio license. They sold me a copy of the Ultimate version for $20 or $40 dollars, I don't remember how much exactly. I knew that the Ultimate version had all the versions, including the Premium version my sister had a license for. I used Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to look up her license which I e-mailed to myself. I reinstalled Vista which installed as the Premium version, just as I expected. Five to six hours later I had everything set up. I thought everything was activated and working just fine. I was wrong.
And now a week later, my sister brings me her laptop and complains herbackground is gone. The operating system had reverted itself to its limited "Illegal State". Frustrated and not wanting to spend another five hours redoing it all, I tried using the license that came on the back of the CD that I got at my campus bookstore which Windows refused. It won't allow me to upgrade to Ultimate either. What is my best solution at this point? Will Microsoft support me in this? Can I get a disc replacement from Vaio? The last thing we want to do is have to buy another license. I don't know if if its okay to use the license that came on the back of my Ultimate disc either.
I have a Windows 2003 R2 x64 (all current SPs and updates installed) and 3 Windows Vista machines (also al X64 versions). When trying to copy a (large - maybe 50MB +) file from the Windows 2003 Server to the Vista Machines (the Server Shared folder is mapped to a drive in Vista) - I will get an error like "There is a problem access I:igfile.txt - make sure you are connected to the Network and try again" Once in a while I will see "Error 0x8007003A" I can copy those files just fine from Windows 2003 to another Windows 2003 machine or Windows XP machines...

View 5 Replies View RelatedI put in a new 250GB HDD (SATA) as my primary drive. I have two DVD RW (one SATA and one EIDE). I formated and installed a clean version of Vista Ultimate on the 250GB drive using the install tools on the Vista DVD. Restarted the system without issues without the DVD in. Used the User migration tool on the Vista DVD to move the backed up files from my previous install to the clean install.
Now, if I start my computer, it says that the HDD is not a valid boot disk. If I start with the Vista DVD in one of the two DVD drives, it boots into the windows on the C drive without issue. I tried running the Startup Repair from the DVD, and it has not changed it
I want to dual boot Vista64 and Windows 7. I have a 600GB drive with Vista and all programs. I also have a 1.5TB drive that I use for storage and a disk image of the 600GB drive. I know I need to partition the 1.5TB drive to install 7, but I've never done this before. Can I partition without having to format? If so, how? Can I use Disk Management to do this?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer has a bootup probllem but I want to try to save the files on it's harddrives. I have 3 computers.
1. The new one, HP, that won't boot with Windows Vista and 2 SATA harddrives.
2. An older HP with IDE hardrive and XP and with a DVD burner.
3. An older Emachine with a IDE harddrive without a DVD burner.
I am trying to figure out the cheapest way to do this or without having to buy adapter cables so I can burn the files to DVD and then reinstall Vista on the New machine - 1. So, would it be possible for me take the harddrive out of the Emachine and install that in computer ONE -- and then install Vista on that.. and then burn the files on my SATA harddrives to DVD? Can the harddrives from the Emachine work in computer ONE - the HP Vista SATA machine? Or is it not compatale?

I have a legally obtained retail copy of Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit). Shortly after first purchasing it, I installed it as a secondary OS via Apples Boot Camp utility onto an iMac Aluminum. Later on, I obtained a new Gateway notebook that came with Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) pre-installed. Wishing to replace the 64-bit pre-installed version of Windows Home Premium with a freshly installed 32-bit version, I did so using the aforementioned legally obtained retail disc without error. When the time came to activate windows on the new notebook, I was informed that I would have to either purchase a secondary license for the product or activate the product through Microsofts phone activation service. I chose the latter and Vista was up and running with a successful activation soon after. Unbeknownst to me and pointed out later by a friend, this was apparently an illegal means of activating my copy of Vista Home Premium on the new notebook because the Vista EULA specifically denotes that only one computer may be graced with this licensed copy at any time. I am concerned about the legality and/or consequences of this, even though I explained the situation to Microsoft during the activation process and the representative I was speaking with did not seem to have an issue with it. Does anyone have any insight on this? Should I uninstall Vista from my iMac so that only my new notebook is running the licensed copy? I have talked with Microsoft support about this and they succeeded only in confusing me further.

I tried looking at some of the other threads here relating to this subject, but they didn't seem to work for me. I've tried two main solutions so far, neither of which worked. The first was to restore the licensing file through the cmd prompt, then rebooting twice (found that solution THIS COPY OF WINDOWS IS NOT GENUINE - WHY? there), the second was to type slui.exe 4 into the search bar and hope for a telephone number to activate by phone, which seems to work for some people. I can't get the telephone number to show up, though. It just gives me the screen to buy a new product key online, try a different one, or a link to the Help box on validation.
