Don't Get Download Window
Apr 15, 2009Don't know if this is - dare I say - "a bug" in IE. Try this (or should I say don't try this) at home folks. In order to attempt to fix my prob which detailed in the previous posts (titled "FUNNY THING HAPPENS WHEN DOWNLOADING ZIP FILE" in IE General Forum), I tried anything, and played with a few thing. This is what I did. I clicked on a zip file and associated with IE program (I'm embarrassed to say that I don't even know how to do that again. Don't ask me to retrace my steps), and see what happens, if you dare!!!!!! If you can replicate what I did, you should see IE windows pops up endlessly. Gone bersek, in other words. Anyway, this is not what I'm concerned (although Microsoft should certainly looks into it). I have posted this question in one form or another. When I tried to download a ZIP file from any website, I don't get a download window, and instead I get some non-standard actions.
Since it ONLY happens when I download a ZIP file, It slowly dawn on me (I'm pretty slow) that the issue has to do with my ZIP file association, hence the reason why I played with the ZIP file assocation and get this scary scenario of IE gone hysterical. Pre-IE6, I can fix this issue with a file association in the "File/Folder View and Search Option" , which was drastically altered in the subsequent version of IE leaving me confused and helpless. I have posted several times and nobody can answer my question. Perhaps because this issue seems to be an IE-related, but in fact it is not. So posting this question in IE forum won't get me the right expertise. I posted this question in Vista General form before, and was told that i get get better response if I posted in IE GEenral. I'm absolutely frustrated with this prob.
IE Download Window Disappears
Jun 17, 2008I'm having problems downloading anything. When I download something, whether I'm in Firefox or IE, the file downloads normally until it is complete. In IE the download window immediately disappears, and in Firefox the download "cannot be found". The file pretty much just completely disappears when it is finished downloading. I've searched for the files I download and found nothing. I've tried downloading to different locations also to no avail.

May 9, 2008(VISTA Ultimate SP1). Has anyone had any problems downloading files and having the download window never closes? Steps to replicate:
1. Open Web Page
2. Select File to Download
3. Watch the file begin to download
4. Download screen will say "Verifying"
5. The download gets to 99% and it never closes.
Why would the window remain on the screen, but the file be downloaded properly?
X64 Sp1 Download Copy Window Not Genuie
Feb 20, 2009i just spent $420.00 for 2 additional vista ultimate 64 sp1 oem disks from microcenter for my kids. i just finished installing vista64,drivers...etc on one of them. i brought the pc into my other room where my modem is to activate it & download updates. it activated perfectly and is currently downloading the latest updates. here's the kicker......there is a watermark in the bottom right corner of the desktop that says Windows Vista(TM) Build 6001 This copy of Windows is not genuine ???? i'm lost for words.

Apr 23, 2008Vista and Office 2003, I have 4 accounts on this computer that all connect to the same email account in Windows Mail. Everything was fine but now when I log onto one of the Windows accounts and go to Windows Mail I can't download or view attachements. When I try to download them it says I don't have enough disk space (90Gigs free) and the .pps icons aren't even the same as they are when I open that same email account with the other Windows accounts. Seems to be some sort of file association mix up or something. but I cant even download them which is weird? I hope I didn't make this too complicated and I hope to hear from someone soon!

SP1 For An MVP: Update Process Could Cause After A Manual Download
May 8, 2008I have been waiting for Windows Update to offer SP1 and it has not happened yet. I am in no rush for SP1, but am beginning to wonder if it will ever be automatically offered. Should I continue to wait, or should I manually download it from the MS site. My concern is the update process might know something about my system that could cause me problems after a manual download.

If you like to stay on the bleeding edge of technology (and you’re running Vista) you may want to consider modifying two registry keys on your system so that you can participate in the Vista SP2 Beta program. To join the program all you have to do is download this batch file, and run it on your Vista machine as an administrator (right click - Run as administrator). Then just check for available Windows Updates (it may take 30 minutes or so for it to show up in the Windows Updates).
Think carefully whether you want to do this or not. There will likely be some bugs that could cause problems with your system, but at the very least it will cause Vista to expire on 4/2/2010 (or around then). Plus it will place the “Evaluation copy” message on your desktop wallpaper. You can always uninstall Vista SP2 to remove the evaluation message and expiration date, but it’s important to know what you’re getting into before you try to install it.
So what’s new in Vista SP2? Here’s a brief rundown that the Vista blog provided last week:Windows Vista SP2 adds Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches. Windows Vista SP2 contains the Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology. Ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Windows Vista. Adds Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration. Windows Vista SP2 enables the exFAT file system to support UTC timestamps, which allows correct file synchronization across time zones. Windows Vista SP2 is expected to be released in final form sometime in the first half of 2009. Judging by the expiration date of Vista SP2 Beta I’d say that sounds about right.

Find Download And Install The Update?
Oct 24, 2009Running Vista Home Prem32Bit....will Upgrade to Windows7 32BIT. Ran Microsoft's Windows 7 Advisor....the Report shows under the PROGRAM section, Cisco PEAP MODULE 1.0.13 is not compatible. It shows update is available and when you click on it you go to a Cisco Site....but I couldn't find the download, for that matter, any downloads. I have tried to get help from CISCO, it is impossible. All I wanted was the link to download the Update and all they wanted was a contract number. I don't even know what this program does...it may be the wireless Password Security? It should not be this difficult, I need to update PEAP and I have spent many hours at the Cisco site and Internet searches and have been unable to find the download that will update Cisco PEAP Module to a version that is Compatible with Windows 7. Hopefully someone else has been sucessful and has located the site where I can download and install the Update.........

1. Windows Update calls it SP2, but is it really SP2 or just a release candidate (RC)? If so, should I wait awhile?
2. Reading the mail on this community suggests there are lots of problems with SP2. If so, should I wait--but how would I know when problems are fixed?
3. Will it mess up Windows Mail? (Mine works OK with, for example, AOL-generated e-mails.)
4. Earlier, I downloaded SP1 with no trouble. P.S. - I'm rather non-technical.
VISTA SP! - Download From Windows Update
Mar 26, 20081.. I have an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista Home Premium - Works like a gem and downloaded and installed SP1 easy as anything and all is fine.
2.. I have an ACER laptop that I installed Vista Ultimate on and it does all the download updates as necessary and works well.
3.. However, it seems NOT to want to know about downloading and installing SP1 - I have auto update switched on but SP1 never seems to be in the list of updates
4.. SP1 does not show on the summary of laptop either...so I assume it has NOT downloaded and installed SP1,Any ideas why it does not want to know about SP1? The laptop has 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk and a 128MB video card.....

Jun 10, 2008I need to download an Adobe Flash Player update. In the upper left corner a dialogue box opens up and asks me if I want to save the file. I click on save and that is the last I see of it. The dialogue box closes and I have no idea where the file is being saved to. I have used the search function and it always comes back that it cannot find the file I requested. Worse yet, Vista does not give me a choice as to where I want the file saved. I have drive C: drive D: on the primary HD. I have a drive G: on an external drive. Dec 27, 2009I'm a Windows Vista Ulitimate 32 user since 2008. I've always updated the system using "Windows Update" but since two weeks ago, the system jut don't show the list of updates available. It tells me I have new updates (system tray icon) but when I open it, I cant see nothing. Here is the printscreen: The gray background is just my personal configuration... So, I can see I have 41 optional updates, for example, but there is no list of them! quite strange.

May 4, 2008Something is dead wrong with my Vista Premium. Whenever I open the Windows Update panel, an empty window appears for an instance, and then Windows Explorer crashes and restarts. On top of that, Windows Update crashes on occasion by itself for a couple of times and then settles down. When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.

Oct 22, 2008As far as I can determine, this update (released 22Oct08) does not work, at least not with Windows Vista Home Premium. I had update 7 running, and got an update notification for Release 10 earlier today. Downloaded and installed the update, tried the Java test page, Firefox (both 3.0.3 and today's Minefield beta-test for Firefox 3.1) hung. Tried the update in IE7, that, too, hung.
Went to Control Panel, clicked on the Java icon, had some problems opening it; when it did finally open, I went into Advanced and found that Update 10 was not recognizing IE. Opened IE, redownloaded the off-line update, to see if that worked; answer is, no, it still did not recognize IE. Back to Java, found the off-line installed for Update 7, removed 10, reinstalled 7; Java works once again. In the midst of this aggravation, trying to figure out what the problem was, I did find one link to an article that said Update 10 had been delayed due to some unspecified problem. Seems to me that, at least for Vista Home Premium, there is still at least one unspecified problem with Update 10.
