Curious thing is it sais i dont have any currently update installed in my pc anymore. Few days ago the list was full with updates and now I dont have any on the list. For make it worse now my system restore tells me that i dont have any system restore point so i cant restore to any point before i get all the errors and stuff.
I'm a Windows Vista Ulitimate 32 user since 2008. I've always updated the system using "Windows Update" but since two weeks ago, the system jut don't show the list of updates available. It tells me I have new updates (system tray icon) but when I open it, I cant see nothing. Here is the printscreen: The gray background is just my personal configuration... So, I can see I have 41 optional updates, for example, but there is no list of them! quite strange.

It's not listed as a Program on Control Panel I've tried to download it, but it won't download. I've searched other sites, nothing helps. I restored the PC to a about month previous (5/12/2010) - nothing.I have Comcast and they replaced McAfee with the Norton Suite and that is what I'm using, not Windows protection software. Could that affect the use of Windows Update?What would you recommend?

Whenever I open the Windows Update panel, an empty window appears for an instance, and then Windows Explorer crashes and restarts. On top of that, Windows Update crashes on occasion by itself for a couple of times and then settles down. I did check the disk for errors, ran the scanners, manually installed most relevant updates I could find including the System Update Readiness Tool, also renaming the software distribution folder and resetting ie7 -all in vain.

On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

My current user account is working fine, however when I create a new account, either through control panel or through "local users and groups" option by right clicking computer. The account creates and is apparently all ready to go, however when I try log in to the account, i get an error: "the windows login service service failed the login, the user profile could not be loaded". I also notice that in C:users folder, there is no folder with the new account I created, i assume that is why the error is appearing. I have done numerious virus scans, with norton, so thats not the issue. I have found other problems on the internet but they only appear to be having problems with the main account, my main administrator account works fine.

I've got a small network in my office and I have just purchased a new laptop with Vista64 on it. I'm trying to access a Network drive device with my login/pass (it works on all other computers) but not the Vista64 box?
I get an error: "share is not accessible. You might not have permission (which I know my login/pass does becuase I'm logged in with XP on two other boxes). But there's the paragraph; "Multiple connections to a server or shared resouces by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed, Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again". What the heck I want to keep the same login (ME) to access a devise... is this really how it has to be with Vista?
Can anyone explain this: 3219. The screenshot shows the folder view (in Windows Explorer), and a directory listing (in a Command Line window). Why is the Explorer window showing different filenames than the command line window? It's not so much of an issue, as I'm currently completing a scheduled backup of this drive using Nero Burning ROM, and will be formatting it soon.

When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAs far as I can determine, this update (released 22Oct08) does not work, at least not with Windows Vista Home Premium. I had update 7 running, and got an update notification for Release 10 earlier today. Downloaded and installed the update, tried the Java test page, Firefox (both 3.0.3 and today's Minefield beta-test for Firefox 3.1) hung. Tried the update in IE7, that, too, hung.
Went to Control Panel, clicked on the Java icon, had some problems opening it; when it did finally open, I went into Advanced and found that Update 10 was not recognizing IE. Opened IE, redownloaded the off-line update, to see if that worked; answer is, no, it still did not recognize IE. Back to Java, found the off-line installed for Update 7, removed 10, reinstalled 7; Java works once again. In the midst of this aggravation, trying to figure out what the problem was, I did find one link to an article that said Update 10 had been delayed due to some unspecified problem. Seems to me that, at least for Vista Home Premium, there is still at least one unspecified problem with Update 10.

As of last Friday, began exhibiting funky behavior and could not get past login:a) Login screen showed two users - one correct, w/ no password, and one named "user" with unknown password.b) Selecting correct user (and no password) showed wait state mouse icon for a few seconds, then displayed message "The network connection was aborted by the local system" and returned to the login screen. Subsequent attempts to login without rebooting displayed message "Invalid Handle".c) System shutoff button in lower right corner of screen displayed NO options on dropdown only a horizontal line, and did not appear to restart the system. Problem exists with either NIC connected on both client and test networks. System restore to previous (working) occasion did not have any effect. "Safe Mode" (with or without Networking) didn't get past this problem. Hardware and memory diagnostics all pass. There's no new hardware and no BIOS or driver updates within the past 60 days.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI running Vista Enterprise on an HP laptop. I'm having an issue where randomly it doesn't allow me to login, or sometimes after I'm logged in and then the screensaver lock activates it won't let me "unlock" it (so basically log back in).
After I do ctrl-alt-del I see the screen that shows the user accounts on the system...when I try to click on any of them nothing happens. The password box never displays. Its like the screen is "locked" up for some reason. My only solution is to turn it off and turn it back on.
This is a new laptop...running latest service pack and updates. I haven't installed anything new on it. Last new app I installed was a few weeks ago...and then this problem started. I tried turning off UAC and that didn't resolve the problem (I was just guessing).

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have successfully installed the sp1 and there are no serious problem so far. However a serious problem is rising: I hoped SP1 solved it but it did not. Soon after I login the disk on my laptop is intensively used: I succeded in identifying the process which causes the problem and is C:\windowssystem32configegback. It uses the disk for at least 10 minutes, then everything is normal. Since is a windows process causing the problem I deactivated the system restore (also because I have never used it in the past). Nothing changed.

Its just says "Welcome" with a spinny circle. 2-3 minutes later the desktop arrives! Nothing in the event log, same laptop with XP installed does the applying/loading personal seetings in about 10-15 seconds. Why does Vista when on the logon screen change the "Logon to" part from the domain the local PC name when i type "Administrator" in the box? Does not do it on any other account!, very annoying having to type domainadministrator on the main logon screen.
Why does Vista take 4x longer to install anything than XP does on my laptop? XP installed the standalone flash player in less than 10 seconds. Minutes later i'm still waiting for Vista to get on with it. Why when i open our shared area thats on our 2003 server does Vista take more than 5 minutes to load it, when XP does it in less than 1 second? No matter which hardware i try Vista on, same result. Think somebody needs to start selling XP again, it works.
