I am having a bit of a problem with my Nvidia Geforce 7950 gx2, everytime I download the new update it stalls and then goes to a black screen then boots a blue error that has nvlddmkm.sys. I can't figure out what to do.

I recenlty installed an update for Vista X64, but after the computer restarted there was just a black screen. I can move the mouse around, but I can't do anything else. I tried to run the system restore, but it says my c drive contains errors and it won't work. Anyone know how to fix this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron notbeook, pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. Apart from what came from the manufacturer, this machines is pretty much clean - that is other than the Trend Micro Security suite installed, there is nothing else. Maybe the Adobe Flash and Adobe reader. I have downloaded the SP1 and installed it. The installation went smooth until it shutdowns and restart - message was something like - 1 of 3 updates... x% It went for about 6 hours apparently idle - the screen is black with the cursor blinking on top left corner and non responsive. I decided to turn it off and when reboot the machine displays a message - Resuming Windows and goes back to a black screen with the cursor on the top left corner and unresponsive.. Tried to reboot in safe mode and it does not work - it just displays a message Resuming Windows and goes back to a black screen...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have numerous problems installing service pack 1 on my Dell Laptop running Vista Home Premium. I succeded in installing it first time, but when I next ran windows update and rebooted, after the logon screen I just got a black screen with the mouse pointer and nothing else. I restored from an image, did all the updates, then installed the SP1 - same problem. Now I restored image, and applied SP1 (without running windows update first) and have the same problem. No problems on my home built desktop, just the laptop. Really pissed with Vista just now.

My computer freeze for 2-5 second, next is black screen for 2seconds(as monitor is shuted down) and next is black screen while i don't stop the game. I got it all put together and tried to load Vista. It got to the Windows is loading files screen and then screen in getting black video. Keyboad and mouse stopped working at times. So I updated the board BIO's per intel through iso image and same thing. So I tried installing XP and got to the F8 screen to accept lic. and it just reboots everytime.
Any ideas why Vista would stop? Added the info about the XP install so it may help.

I have recently bought a new PC running Windows Vista Home Premium. I have loaded the above programs for my son and when they a running the screen is not centred and the is a black bar to the right of the screen approx 3 cm wide. I have tried to run the games in compatibility mode and as adminstrator as recommended with other games but with no success.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am having a very wierd issue with vista's screen saver. So basically when I leave the comp idle it goes into screen saver then turns off the monitor after 15 mins. Sometimes, more often than not, I come back and move the mouse and hit a few keys on the keyboard and nothing. The monitor wont come out of standby I try turning it off and back on, and nothing. I have the latest drivers for everything in my system and I checked the power management settings and they both are able to wake the computer up. I have a G15 keyboard and I keep the leds on and when this happens the leds are off and the lazer for the mouse is off too.

My one guess is its something to do with the display driver maybe because that has been stuffing up a bit of late, in the way of the screen going black for a couple of seconds then recovering.
Why do I get black picture after I have pressed PrtSc button? Of course it shouldn't be black and it happens only when the screen is on full screen mode (for an example videos, games etc.). I have tried to download malware and spyware removal tools but it wont let me download them again it just comesup with an error code. I am in no rush for SP1, but am beginning to wonder if it will ever be automatically offered. Should I continue to wait, or should I manually download it from the MS site. If you like to stay on the bleeding edge of technology (and you’re running Vista) you may want to consider modifying two registry keys on your system so that you can participate in the Vista SP2 Beta program. To join the program all you have to do is download this batch file, and run it on your Vista machine as an administrator (right click - Run as administrator). Then just check for available Windows Updates (it may take 30 minutes or so for it to show up in the Windows Updates).
Think carefully whether you want to do this or not. There will likely be some bugs that could cause problems with your system, but at the very least it will cause Vista to expire on 4/2/2010 (or around then). Plus it will place the “Evaluation copy” message on your desktop wallpaper. You can always uninstall Vista SP2 to remove the evaluation message and expiration date, but it’s important to know what you’re getting into before you try to install it.
So what’s new in Vista SP2? Here’s a brief rundown that the Vista blog provided last week:Windows Vista SP2 adds Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches. Windows Vista SP2 contains the Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology. Ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Windows Vista. Adds Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration. Windows Vista SP2 enables the exFAT file system to support UTC timestamps, which allows correct file synchronization across time zones. Windows Vista SP2 is expected to be released in final form sometime in the first half of 2009. Judging by the expiration date of Vista SP2 Beta I’d say that sounds about right.

Running Vista Home Prem32Bit....will Upgrade to Windows7 32BIT. Ran Microsoft's Windows 7 Advisor....the Report shows under the PROGRAM section, Cisco PEAP MODULE 1.0.13 is not compatible. It shows update is available and when you click on it you go to a Cisco Site....but I couldn't find the download, for that matter, any downloads. I have tried to get help from CISCO, it is impossible. All I wanted was the link to download the Update and all they wanted was a contract number. I don't even know what this program does...it may be the wireless Password Security? It should not be this difficult, I need to update PEAP and I have spent many hours at the Cisco site and Internet searches and have been unable to find the download that will update Cisco PEAP Module to a version that is Compatible with Windows 7. Hopefully someone else has been sucessful and has located the site where I can download and install the Update.........

1. Windows Update calls it SP2, but is it really SP2 or just a release candidate (RC)? If so, should I wait awhile?
2. Reading the mail on this community suggests there are lots of problems with SP2. If so, should I wait--but how would I know when problems are fixed?
3. Will it mess up Windows Mail? (Mine works OK with, for example, AOL-generated e-mails.)
4. Earlier, I downloaded SP1 with no trouble. P.S. - I'm rather non-technical.
1.. I have an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista Home Premium - Works like a gem and downloaded and installed SP1 easy as anything and all is fine.
2.. I have an ACER laptop that I installed Vista Ultimate on and it does all the download updates as necessary and works well.
3.. However, it seems NOT to want to know about downloading and installing SP1 - I have auto update switched on but SP1 never seems to be in the list of updates
4.. SP1 does not show on the summary of laptop either...so I assume it has NOT downloaded and installed SP1,Any ideas why it does not want to know about SP1? The laptop has 2GB of RAM and a 120GB hard disk and a 128MB video card.....

When I restart the computer I get the message downloads did not configure properly windows is reconfiguring. I can alway download and install optional updates but anything that is important will not install. I get a variety of error codes. Has anyone had problems with windows update on vista?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to download an Adobe Flash Player update. In the upper left corner a dialogue box opens up and asks me if I want to save the file. I click on save and that is the last I see of it. The dialogue box closes and I have no idea where the file is being saved to. I have used the search function and it always comes back that it cannot find the file I requested. Worse yet, Vista does not give me a choice as to where I want the file saved. I have drive C: drive D: on the primary HD. I have a drive G: on an external drive. I never had these type of problems when running XP Home on my previous computer. I have myself set up as administrator to try to avoid some of the roadblocks that Vista puts up.

I then reboot the Pc it leading to a blue screen. Some times when I reboot it will blue screen some times it will just be a black screen that is un responsive. I have tried f8 options in advance boot optiotns, Ive tried re installing windows- it claiming my disk is full. Ive tried system restore it also says I have a disk failure. It wont let me check errors in the properties options on my hard drive. I have done a virus scan(no virus's) and I have 300gigs left of space.
View 8 Replies View Relatedis that when he tries to delete some files that he previously stored in the C:"Account Name",he gets a message saying that the file is unavailable in the specified location.However,that is not my main problem now,because when I was trying to help fix this problem I typed "msconfig" into the RUN box to get the startup utility box and I unchecked some of the background programs to prevent them from loading automatically when the system starts,in order to speed up the system;but when I restarted the system I can see the first screen, which is by the manufacturer of the labtop;then when vista starts loading, the screen becomes black and don't display anything,although I am sure that Vista is loading successfully but I cannot see it on the screen.
I am assuming that one of the programs that I have unchecked is responsible for displaying. I have tried to do a repair installation by using a bootable Vista DVD but I couldn't because I cannot see anything on the screen.I tried logging in on safe mode but that did not work either. I have two users set-up, user K (with Administrator rights I believe and a password) and user N. If I login as user K, after I enter my password my computer will run for a bit (I can see/hear it logging in) but after a few minutes the screen goes black except for my white cursor and nothing else happens. If I then hit ctrl-alt-del I can see the Task Manager and switch users to user N which will start up normally and give me access to my desktop.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried installing many different games on my pc, which are quite new and have been released in the last few years. The installation goes fine, and everything is great. When it comes to launching the game, well, i double click the file to run the game, and i get a black screen. Nothing happens afterwards. It just stays black. 'Ctrl + Alt + Delete' does not work, and neither does 'Alt + Tab', or any other keyboard shortcuts. This results in me having to hold in the power button and turn my pc off like that.
Any idea's on what could be wrong? It is extremely frustrating, due to the fact that i've tried running about 3 - 5 games on my computer, and neither of them work, without a black screen coming up after trying to launch any of them. I've tried numerous things like 'Running as Administrator' and changing compatibillity modes and so on and so forth, but none of that works.
I was having a weird problem with my screen going black at random after installing any version of Vista, and kept having to force a restart because there was no way to get the screen to come back on. I searched all the forums and it seemed to be very common, but as with most of the forums everyone was argueing about how to fix the problem instead of helping the people with the problem. So I'm posting this one in the hope that it may just help one or two people with the same problem.
My remedy was simply to update the BIOS to the latest version P32 I think from the XFX website, and the problem was no more, I also updated the High def audio driver from the same site, now my machine has been running flawlessly for three days now.
I was hoping that some of you guys could help me with a problem. As the title says, my screen goes completely black after the loading screen with the green loading bar, but before the usual windows vista circle is supposed to appear. I have also tried to use a vista x64 recovery disk. Here I only get the blue background a mouse I can move around on the screen, meaning I have no options to choose from. Does anyone know what the problem might be? And if so, how to possibly fix it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Ulimate 64-bit and everytime that I reboot I get a black screen before the Microsoft Windows scrolling bar.
This is the sequence.
- I reboot.
- I get my bios information screen.
- I get the white, blinking line in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Then the screen goes black with no hard drive activity.
I then can perform a Complete PC restore from my second partition on the same SATA Hard Drive and I will then be able to boot into Vista with no problem.....until I reboot, then I get the Black screen again. It is a vicious cycle.
I have tried to remove video cards (2 x 8800 GTS), memory (4 GB), sound cards (X-Fi Music), load the default bios settings....nothing works. Only a Complete PC Restore cures it, but only until I need to reboot the PC.
I run Vista HP/SP2. The other day after various installs, updates and maintenance tasks I ran with no problems and ended the day by putting my laptop into hibernate mode. The next day when I powered on, my system would not come up...my system disk C: was corrupt. I finally got System Repair to run and it appeared to fix and recover my C: disk to the point that I can see my files still exist via Recovery command prompt. However when I
restart, my screen goes and stays blank (black) with my cursor usable but to no purpose. I tried System Repair again but it tells me it can find nothing to repair. I tried starting in safe mode and it loads two screens worth of windows files before going to a blank (black) screen with my cursor usable but to no purpose. The last windows file loaded is a crcdisk driver file.
