There are some strange missing items in the windows mail version I got with my PC. Where do I look to find out what my version is? And where if possible can I get it updated? Microsoft is incessantly updating my PC but never seems to query my version of windows mail although it is obviously flawed.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIm running Vista Ultimate x64, which has been working fine for ages, no problems I havnt been able to sort out untill now. For some weird reason the sidebar wont load the gadgets or run the already installed items. Sidebar runs ok but without loading anything. Ive searched the forum and googled it to death but cant find a working solution.
Secondly, Windows Update wont start from the control panel anymore. It seems to do auto updates ok, but cant open it manually. Hoping you good people can point me in the right direction. Neither are major probles, just want to know why this has happened and how to resolve it.
Okay, here it goes. I first started using Windows Mail when I bought a new computer with Windows Vista back in January '09. I have four email accounts which I transferred over from an Outlook Express backup that I did before getting rid of my old computer. Windows Mail automatically set up a set of folders (Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail) for each account, each with a different color scheme, similar to Windows Live Mail. My hard drive crashed in June and I'm just now setting things up again with the new hard drive installed. I tried restoring my email accounts from a backup I had but now Windows Mail won't automatically create folders for each account. Instead, I had to set up separate Inbox folders with message rules for each account. However, all the accounts are still sharing the Outbox, Sent Items, Deleted Items, Drafts and Junk E-mail folders. Is there a way to set up a set of these folders for each account using message rules? And also, why did Windows Mail do that automatically for me the first time using it - could it be that the information came from an Outlook Express backup originally?

View 7 Replies View Relatedim having a problem with the startup menu on vista x64. ive installed vista everything went great. after installing i lookked at the all programs menu it had loads of icons for the likes of media centre and other free vista apps. anyway ive installed drivers some of my programs done a windows update downloaded all updates come back to the all programs menu and am missing loads of icons. i havent a clue how this as happend. look at this pic and i have lost everything in the list thats above windows update

I had so many problems with applications (Dreamweaver CS3 and Ulead PhotoImpact 13 as two examples) not running properly that I got 32-bit Vista from Dell and started over. I now need to purchase another laptop and am finding most are being sold with 64-bit Windows with no apparent option, at least from HP and Dell, to order 32-bit instead. Other than being able to address more RAM, what is the big attraction of the 64-bit version that I'm missing?

I've been to the Start Menu properties window, and under Privacy, I only have a single entry, "Store and display a list of recently opened programs". The corresponding entry for documents is missing. Furthermore, although I can check the one-and-only tick-box, the setting doesn't hold, and it's unchecked again next time I open Properties. I have a Recent Items folder (with the correct icon), deep in my User folder, but it's empty. I tried restoring the desktop.ini file from an early disk image, but although the restore appears to work according to the image program, the folder remains stubbornly empty. It's as though some system setting registry value has been set prohibiting the use or display of this Recent Items folder.

Windows Mail just seems so slow and klugy by comparison--and the Calendar is also usable, but annoying. What do you all think? View 5 Replies View RelatedVista SP1 install I had to reinstall (not restore) the entire system much to my regret. In the process I added a newsgroup account in Windows Mail and downloaded my regular newsgroups but could not find alt.binaries.food which I have been reading for quite some time (And in fact still reading it on a XP machine with OE so I know the group is alive and active).
After messing with it for over a day I chatted with EarthLink and other than to say its a "Vista problem" they provided no real help or direction. When I Google "missing alt.binaries.food and Vista" there are an amazing number of people with the same apparent problem description but no proposed or found solutions.
Then I added Thunderbird to the Vista system this afternoon and viola, alt.binaries.food is there alive and well. So it doesn't appear to be this computer but rather either something in Windows Mail or my setup. Does anyone have a clue? Or does this seem to point in some direction to the group?
Having had no mail problems previously, following the installation of 16 Windows Updates today I find that suddenly none of my Windows Mail messages contain any images (not even a red X). I've checked the security settings, but they haven't changed. The only Windows security product I'm using is Defender's Firewall, whle virus and spyware checking is from AVG (Free). I'm running on Vista Home Premium SP2 (32-bit).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just installed an update that included the latest version of Live Mail and am absolutely amazed at the result. Surely they are kidding? In newsgroups now for some reason, new items have only the author (From) field highlighted with bold text and the subject and other fields just in normal text. The result is that when you receive new items in watched threads, you cannot see which thread it is that has the new items unless you go through and expand each one manually! Surely this is a bug in my setup and can't really be like this?

2. Any version of Agent mail.ru. I checked everything the Agent mail.ru support suggested. The support does not know what to suggest any more.
If I get the OEM version, I know that a restriction in the license means it cannot be transferred to another computer. I need to get clarification on the following:
1) What happens if my computer crashes and I am told I have to reformat the hard drive and re-install Windows? Am I forced to buy a new license?
2) What if I want to have a backup hard drive, or upgrade my existing hard drive to a bigger one? If it's the same computer and only the hard drive is upgraded or a second one added, does that mandate a new license?
I want to reorganize some of the items on the Windows Start Menu to make it more streamlined and functional. I am right clicking the Windows Start button and choosing "Explore All Users" as directed. It works fine for 85% of the items on the Start Menu but there are still several items on the menu that don't show up in the Start Menu/Programs directory that comes up to edit the menu. How do I access these other items? They must be listed somewhere.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my pc and bought Windows Vista ultimate 64bit, and i would like to install Windows vista Business 64bit. How can i do it? I took ultimate because it was the only version i could find (in my area anyway) that had a 64bit version in the box. But i don't want the media center, the high definition, and all the multimedia stuff. All of these ultimate "extras" are of no use whatsover to me. So my question is basically can i install the Business version with my ultimate key ? (is it "downwards" compatible in a way ?). I don't understand why ultimate is the only one with 64bit in the box. It doesn't make sense to me. It would have been much more logical for the Business version to be the one with 64bit in the box.

Now, when I delete an email from my "Inbox," it does NOT appear in my "Deleted Items" folder. It just seems to disappear. I did read many of the earlier posts and have tried the suggestions. I've gone to Tools>Options>Advanced>Maintenance - the "Empty messages from the Deleted Items folder on exit" is NOT checked. I've also gone to Current View "Show all messages" - that's identified/checked. Is there something else that I can do? I'd appreciate any suggestions. This is the first time I've used
