From the Help Menu of Windows Mail in Vista Premium SP2 I see that the version is 6.0.6000.16386. When I send a message I see in the headers that the version is 6.0.6002.18005. Why this difference?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just installed an update that included the latest version of Live Mail and am absolutely amazed at the result. Surely they are kidding? In newsgroups now for some reason, new items have only the author (From) field highlighted with bold text and the subject and other fields just in normal text. The result is that when you receive new items in watched threads, you cannot see which thread it is that has the new items unless you go through and expand each one manually! Surely this is a bug in my setup and can't really be like this?

If I get the OEM version, I know that a restriction in the license means it cannot be transferred to another computer. I need to get clarification on the following:
1) What happens if my computer crashes and I am told I have to reformat the hard drive and re-install Windows? Am I forced to buy a new license?
2) What if I want to have a backup hard drive, or upgrade my existing hard drive to a bigger one? If it's the same computer and only the hard drive is upgraded or a second one added, does that mandate a new license?
If there is anyone out there willing to trade their 64bit version of Vista Home Premium for my OEM 32bit version of Vista Home Premium, e-mail me at 'I need the 64bit version because my system has 8GB RAM.

I took ultimate because it was the only version i could find (in my area anyway) that had a 64bit version in the box. But i don't want the media center, the high definition, and all the multimedia stuff. All of these ultimate "extras" are of no use whatsover to me. So my question is basically can i install the Business version with my ultimate key ? (is it "downwards" compatible in a way ?). I don't understand why ultimate is the only one with 64bit in the box. It doesn't make sense to me. It would have been much more logical for the Business version to be the one with 64bit in the box.

I intend to buy Windows 7 when it becomes available and wish to minimize my system upgrade problems as much as possible. Based on my understanding I would have to do a complete harddrive erase to install Win 7 and then reinstall all my applications. If possible and practical I'd like to upgrade XP to Vista and then Vista to Windows 7. My question am I likely to have problems going from a current up to date version of XP to a 2+ year old version of Vista which would require many updates to bring up to the current level?.

Which ran fine gave it a few tests (prime95) which was all good, but there was a problem with the sleep function if i did it a second time vista would not boot, i would just get a black screen, and twice when i turned the computer on it gave me a overclock failed message, if i restarted it all was good but i was unsure so now im running it stock.
i have been getting a few errors with various programs (java, call of duty 5, crysis) they have been crashing from time to time, the solution centre found a problem and gave me this message "This problem was caused by a compatibility issue between this version of Windows and a chipset in your computer. The chipset was created by Intel Corporation. The model name of the chipset that caused this problem is Intel QuickPath Architecture I/O Hub."...............

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have tried both and really can't tell the difference when up and running. I am using the 64 bit drivers for my devices and have NO 64 bit programs. My machine has an AMD64x2 4800 running 4 gig ram and a 500 gig drive. When I switched from Vista 32 bit to the 64 I thought I was going to see dramatic results but no... Have followed the tutorials to adjust as needed/wanted still not difference. So, unless doing some graphic intensive or mathematically intensive work utilizing a 64 bit program when will I and others ever see any advantage to keeping the 64 bit os?

Today, after being advised by Update that SP1 is available to me, I have downloaded and saved both versions from the Microsoft site; 32 and 64. BUT I really do not understand the difference between 32 and 64. To me it seems like Vista should be Vista, like XP was XP. which version of SP1 I need to put into my individual Vista installations of Home Premium and then Ultimate.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I insert the DVD, I click on 'Install Now' and the whole installation process works fine. But, right at the very end, it says 'Completing Installation'. Then, it says 'The installation was unsuccessful so the computer is reverting back to your previous version of windows'. Then my computer restarts back as Windows XP. I have made sure I have all the system requirements and have downloaded and run the upgrade advisor. I have installed the vista home premium on my laptop first and it works fine. It just doesn't seem to want to install on my desktop computer.

I'm looking to invest in some extra graphics power. Don't get me wrong...my 8800gt is great, but lacks some for cerain games.. The two choices I have decided on are selling my current 8800gt for $100 to a friend and using that money to go toward a gtx 260 OR putting another 8800gt in SLI with my current one. Also, how big of a difference is there between the gtx 280 and the 260 other than money and RAM?

However I feel that I have Realplayer 32 bit running on my vista and it's the main download on the realplayer site anyways. I think it's 32 bit because when I was in msconfig in the run menu, under startups it had realplayer (32-bit) but how can that be, because I thought 32 bit won't work on 64 bit OP systems and vice versa. Plus is there really any difference between the two? Besides just compatibility.
