I don't mean to sound like a total newb (which I am not, I am quite familliar with hacking my PSP and it's games and also my iPod so I know a little bit about computers) but I always wondered what the difference is between Windows Vista 32bit and Windows Vista 64bit. It would be nice to know but I don't entirely need t know.

What I have found out so far is that 64bit is better for graphics and video and not so much for applications. I just got my system in Feb of 2008, Vista 32bit, HP media center m8300f w/tv tuner, 3gigs ram, 640gigs hdd, 3.0ghtz AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ processor. I couldn't pass it up as it was a bundled deal w/monitor(HP) and a all-in-one printer(HP).

View 7 Replies View RelatedI purchased a digital update of Windows Vista Premium upgrade and the download won't load. I am useing a trial version of Windows XP 64-bit. I first used the digital locker a few times and it would stop at 99 percent and give a validation error. I figured it the locker was having a problem so i manual downloaded the three files through my internet browser. They downloaded fine without problems, but when I tried to run the Vista setup I ran into another error: 0x8007000D Windows was unable to create a required installation folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have tried both and really can't tell the difference when up and running. I am using the 64 bit drivers for my devices and have NO 64 bit programs. My machine has an AMD64x2 4800 running 4 gig ram and a 500 gig drive. When I switched from Vista 32 bit to the 64 I thought I was going to see dramatic results but no... Have followed the tutorials to adjust as needed/wanted still not difference. So, unless doing some graphic intensive or mathematically intensive work utilizing a 64 bit program when will I and others ever see any advantage to keeping the 64 bit os?

Today, after being advised by Update that SP1 is available to me, I have downloaded and saved both versions from the Microsoft site; 32 and 64. BUT I really do not understand the difference between 32 and 64. To me it seems like Vista should be Vista, like XP was XP. which version of SP1 I need to put into my individual Vista installations of Home Premium and then Ultimate.

The two choices I have decided on are selling my current 8800gt for $100 to a friend and using that money to go toward a gtx 260 OR putting another 8800gt in SLI with my current one. However I feel that I have Realplayer 32 bit running on my vista and it's the main download on the realplayer site anyways. I think it's 32 bit because when I was in msconfig in the run menu, under startups it had realplayer (32-bit) but how can that be, because I thought 32 bit won't work on 64 bit OP systems and vice versa. Plus is there really any difference between the two? Besides just compatibility.

The prices are as follows; upgrade = $219, OEM = $199, English DVD = $319 and are from Tiger direct. This is for the Ultimate OS and some prices are reflecting sales and rebates. I understand the upgrade is overlaying new OS over the old OS but the other two confuse me. So with a new build what would be best?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium, it came with: 1GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM, expandable to 4GB. I wanted more memory so I bought a 2GB kit PC2-*5300* DDR2 SDRAM, because it was on sale for $60. The 6400 speed would have cost me over $200. The salesman assured me it would work fine and I wouldn't notice any difference. I installed it when I got home and everything works great, no problems. But I still can't stop wondering if the difference in speed WOULD matter. Can anyone explain, or provide a link explaining, when, if ever, I would benefit from the faster memory. I mostly use my PC for surfing the web, email, and some photo editing.

I've been told that about midway through the ordering of Dell GX620 Optiplexes that the cores went from single to dual. In effect, I've been advised that these machines and, subsequently everything we've ordered since, are considered 64bit compatible because they have two 32bit cores. Does that sound accurate? What I truly need to know is whether or not any of our PCs (Dell 745, 755 and 760 E8400 Core 2 Duo for desktop; P8400 for laptop) have 64bit hardware. If two 32bit cores mean that they're 64bit compatible, is that the same as being true 64bit? And, last but not least, will 64bit compatible hardware (assuming it's different than 64bit hardware) run a 64bit OS like Windows 7?
