Mar 23, 2008I'm running vista ultimate 32bit. Given that the hardware I have does support 64bit can I upgrade my installation with vista ultimate 64bit?

Mar 26, 2008I purchased a digital update of Windows Vista Premium upgrade and the download won't load. I am useing a trial version of Windows XP 64-bit. I first used the digital locker a few times and it would stop at 99 percent and give a validation error. I figured it the locker was having a problem so i manual downloaded the three files through my internet browser. They downloaded fine without problems, but when I tried to run the Vista setup I ran into another error: 0x8007000D Windows was unable to create a required installation folder.

Jul 3, 2008I just did a clean install of Vista 64 Home Premium and have run into a strange problem. I cannot log in to the XFX Support website using either 32 or 64 bit IE7 on the Vista machine. I can log in fine using an XP machine. Further when I tried to fill in the form to d/l the office 2007 trial version so I could import my mail folder from my backup disk into Vista Mail the form would reset everytime I selected the US as my country (was my only option, I assume since I had already input my state). In Firefox the form would appear to reload when I chose US but would keep everything I'd typed in as well as saving that I chose US. IE7 just wiped out all the text boxes and reset the country to choose country.
Needless to say since it blanked the form every time I couldn't get the trial initially. I've somewhat bypassed the problem by installing and using Firefox 3 which is not having either of these problems. The install was a clean install with nothing more than Vista, drivers and updates installed. P.S. I tried the IE7 group but they seemed to think I should post in the Vista groups
Comodo To Release AV With 64bit Support
May 17, 2008Been visiting the comodo forums after i installed their excellent firewall that is also 64 bit. Aparently they are developing newer antivirus software to replace their current thats nearing release (next month or so should see first open beta of version 3), & guess what, its also going to be free & 64 bit. If its anything like their firewall, im never paying for av again.

Jul 29, 2009i recently got a new computer which came with a home premium 32bit. I know the computer can handle the 64 bit upgrade so i brought the upgrade CD from Microsoft. It says it can be upgrade anytime and when i put it in it, it come out with this message. "Setup cannot be run on this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media." does anyone know how i should install it and why does it say it can't be run on this version of the operating system?

Apr 19, 2009im going to be putting another 4 gigs of ram into my machine when I get my new motherboard. I am going to need to upgrade from Vista Ultimate 32bit to Vista Ultimate 64bit. I know there's no native support to just upgrade, so I was wondering if someone knew the easiest way to do this. I especially don't want to have to reinstall my programs and games, so is it possible just to back up my program files and copy them into the new program files folder? Also, is there any way to transfer the registry information? I know the registry's won't be compatible, but is there some sort of 32 to 64 conversion method?

Apr 1, 2008I currently own a Sony VAIO running on VISTA Ultimate 32bit. This version was upgraded from Windows VISTA Home Premium through Windows-Upgrade-Anywhere. Because of various issues with VISTA and my Laptop I decided to upgrade to a faster machine with 4 Gig Ram. I now would like to upgrade me VISTA Ultimate 32bit to VISTA Ultimate 64bit to remove the 3 Gig RAM restrictions.
Unfortunately no one at Microsoft could really tell me how to do this. This is a all a big mess and trying to find information is really hard. The company I run has a icrosoft Action Pack subscription and I now even have 10 VISTA Business/Ultimate licenses... but again... all for 32bit. I really don??t understand why it needs to be so hard to simply swap a 32bit acquired license for a 62bit one. It??s an unnecessary restriction. From a Microsoft Hotline I learned that swapping 32bit/64bit is no issue if I bought a boxed version of VISTA Ultimate. The funny thing is that the same Hotline told me months ago that there is no difference between buying a "virtual license" through Upgrade-Anywhere and buying the boxed version.

Apr 30, 2008i have several 32bit vista ultimates on other machines. the 64bit machine has Home Premium and i'd wanted to go ultimate on it as well. i saw "Anytime Upgrade" and using the name only postponed the upgrade till i had funds and time to do the upgrade. surprise 1, anytime refers to paying for the upgrade. i was sure to use the 64bit machine to order and postponed my expectations on using the ultimate features until the DVD arrived to me in alaska.
since the upgrade order process said it was scanning my machine i was sure i'd get the 64bit disk. surprise 2, disk was the 32bit DVD tho it was plus SP1 so i guess it did scan my machine in some fashion. in the package the instructions on ordering 64 bit media are given. use this web site and order. you'll have to pay even more and wait even longer but you'll get the ultimate upgrade ultimatly. surprise 3 the web site after putting in the product key from the ultimate upgrade dvd package gives the error "No Offer Found"

Jul 7, 2008I want to reformat my computer and install Vista Ultimate 64-bit as my operating system. I'd rather not spend a couple hundred dollars to do this when I already own Vista Ultimate 32-bit. My computer came with Home Premium and I purchased a Vista Ultimate Upgrade CD (32 bit). Now what I want to know is if I buy the $30 non liscensed Vista Ultimate (64 bit) CD, can I use my Ultimate (32 bit) Activation key to activate it? This would save me around $150. I talked to the Microsoft guys via chat but we just kept going around and around and they never really answered whether or not the Ultimate 64 bit would accept my Ultimate 32 bit upgrade key.

I've been told that about midway through the ordering of Dell GX620 Optiplexes that the cores went from single to dual. In effect, I've been advised that these machines and, subsequently everything we've ordered since, are considered 64bit compatible because they have two 32bit cores. Does that sound accurate? What I truly need to know is whether or not any of our PCs (Dell 745, 755 and 760 E8400 Core 2 Duo for desktop; P8400 for laptop) have 64bit hardware. If two 32bit cores mean that they're 64bit compatible, is that the same as being true 64bit? And, last but not least, will 64bit compatible hardware (assuming it's different than 64bit hardware) run a 64bit OS like Windows 7?

Dec 18, 2008i have been running xp pro and decided to try vista ultimate 64bit. the installation went very smoothly. i immediately loaded super pi and 3dmark06 to compare benchmark scores with xp pro. i was surprised to see that the vista scores were 10 to 15% slower. i loaded the latest gpu drivers and loaded the motherboard drivers from the installation disk.
should vista score less than xp pro or is there something i can do to correct this.

Feb 16, 2010I have setup a home networking with 2 vista machines. One is 32bit OS and the other one is 64bit OS. I set up the workgroup, turned on File & Print Sharing, created shares on both PC's and gave permissions. From the 64bit Vista PC, it's working perfectly fine. I can see, connect and use the files. But from the 32bit os pc, I can see the 64bit pc and the "Network". But I cannot explore nor Map a Drive to 64bit PC.

The freeze up usually occurs when I am installing a program, just starting to download a file, and even sometimes when I am surfing the web. When my system freezes it like everything locks up...mouse, keyboard, HDD, monitor...everything. The only way to restore my system is a hard boot. I had no problems with Vista 32 bit and it ran well for almost a year so I have a feeling it is a software problem.....Not sure what is causing the freeze ups…sometimes it will run for hours and then freeze sometimes it will freeze 5min after I boot it up…seems to always happen when I’m doing something in windows…

As these images can become very large (up to 4gb in size) I am using my second drive as a scratch disk which slows thing down. My system has 4 gb ram but 32 bit only sees 3gb and I would like to utilize the extra gig and maybe add a further 2 or 4 gigs in the future - hence the upgrade to vista 64bit. Before I do, I have a few issues/queries.
1. I will buy a new hard drive to install the 64bit OS as a clean install and leave my 32bit OS on it's original disk incase it all goes horribly wrong. As I will now have three hard drives installed will this affect the installation of vista 64 bit? Will it interfere with the 32 bit versions boot sector?.... as I may need to swap back
2. I've read that vista 64bit has problems installing with 4gb ram installed. Is this true? Seems really odd if this is the case...............

May 20, 2008I recently purchased an OEM version of Vista Home Premium 64bit. Stupid mistake, as my machine (AMD Athlon64 5600+X2 Dual Core, 4gb ram) can only run 32bit. Since I was already running a "lite version" of the 32bit software in my pc, I decided to enter the license key and activate the program. I have downloaded all updates available through WU, but so far no SP1. I checked the forum and followed some instructions about updating drivers etc in order to finally get SP1 through WU, but have had no success so far. Since my "lite version" is missing some components, I was wondering if there is anyway I can get the correct 32bit version from Microsoft, after all my license key should be go for both 64bit and 32bit.
