I was able to backup my hard disk but when i went to restore my partition, I got a bsod. I also tried Acronis home 11 recovery media and it seemed to stall half way through the restore process, backup process wass the same as before. The only way to restore my disk parition is to remove my drive and conect it to an external USB caddy and no problems occur other than it is a little slow and time consuming.
View 8 Replies View RelatedThere are many articles on how to dual boot Vista and XP, but I want to dual boot Vista and Vista, with an existing installation, on 2 Hard Drives. Currently I switch these in the BIOS, but I'd much rather chose at a later stage, can this be done? Why? Because I keep one of the drives for random software that I rarely use.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just installed Window's Vista Ultimate 64-bit on my new build. I have 3 arddrives installed (2 150gb and 1 640 gb). My BIOS reads all 3, but when vista is booted, I only have a C: drive available (one of my 150 gb). None of my drives are in a Raid array. how to get vista to recognize the other 2 drives?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm building my first computer, and I'm getting very frustrated. When I try to install Vista it stops at a screen saying there is no drive to install on. I have gone through all the forums and google searches I can muster. I don't believe it to be a BIOS problem, because I've gone through each of the settings and did a process of elimination on all of them. It's not a jumper problem. what else can it be? Do I need a driver? If so can anyone point me in the right direction?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis is an issue about VISTA going into "LIMBO" trying to reconnect to my mapped network drives, which I know I don't have access since I'm connected VPN... This issue isn`t isolated to VISTA. I`ve had this issue with all Windows OS, I just never found a solution.
The workstation is part of the network, we log into a DOMAIN (pretty standard...)
Often, when using certain VPNs, the "tunneling security" causes you to loose "Network Connections"... which is fine. I.e. If I have a mapped drive to a share on the network or If my default printer is a Network Printer, I cannot access it. You will get the "Could not reconnect to the network share, etc.etc. or printer is unavailable") Often, same goes for email with Outlook........
I have hard drives from both Win 98 SE and XP machines. I currently use a system with Vista 32. Is it possible to hook up these drives to my Vista machine and transfer the data to the Vista drive?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00...
So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is).
I recently tried to upgrade from Vista Basic to Vista Premium but the activation key didn't work. So I recovered Vista Basic from the windows.old file but there is still a corrupt version of Vista Premium on my hard disk. how to remove it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have tried both and really can't tell the difference when up and running. I am using the 64 bit drivers for my devices and have NO 64 bit programs. My machine has an AMD64x2 4800 running 4 gig ram and a 500 gig drive. When I switched from Vista 32 bit to the 64 I thought I was going to see dramatic results but no... Have followed the tutorials to adjust as needed/wanted still not difference. So, unless doing some graphic intensive or mathematically intensive work utilizing a 64 bit program when will I and others ever see any advantage to keeping the 64 bit os?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 2 computers. One has Vista Home Premium and the other has Ultimate. Today, after being advised by Update that SP1 is available to me, I have downloaded and saved both versions from the Microsoft site; 32 and 64. BUT I really do not understand the difference between 32 and 64. To me it seems like Vista should be Vista, like XP was XP. which version of SP1 I need to put into my individual Vista installations of Home Premium and then Ultimate.

The two choices I have decided on are selling my current 8800gt for $100 to a friend and using that money to go toward a gtx 260 OR putting another 8800gt in SLI with my current one. Also, how big of a difference is there between the gtx 280 and the 260 other than money and RAM?

It would be nice to know but I don't entirely need t know.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm expecting that one is for 32bit Windows and the other is for 64, obviously. However I feel that I have Realplayer 32 bit running on my vista and it's the main download on the realplayer site anyways. I think it's 32 bit because when I was in msconfig in the run menu, under startups it had realplayer (32-bit) but how can that be, because I thought 32 bit won't work on 64 bit OP systems and vice versa. Plus is there really any difference between the two? Besides just compatibility.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a big difference it the two? Would I really benefit with a switch to 64? What I have found out so far is that 64bit is better for graphics and video and not so much for applications. I just got my system in Feb of 2008, Vista 32bit, HP media center m8300f w/tv tuner, 3gigs ram, 640gigs hdd, 3.0ghtz AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ processor. I couldn't pass it up as it was a bundled deal w/monitor(HP) and a all-in-one printer(HP).

The prices are as follows; upgrade = $219, OEM = $199, English DVD = $319 and are from Tiger direct. This is for the Ultimate OS and some prices are reflecting sales and rebates. I understand the upgrade is overlaying new OS over the old OS but the other two confuse me. So with a new build what would be best?

If not, will it show any visible performance difference in general tasks, or gaming even though the system already has 3gb of ram to begin with??

Obviously I would like to buy the the best one I can, but I would like to ensure that for the future it could erhaps play a few better games as well as Sims2. I can imagine she will be using the laptop for her school work as well over the next few years. Any advice on which one to buy. I don't know much about PC'S but I was told that different graphic cards can make a bit of difference.
