No Drives Were Found. When Install Vista

Feb 18, 2009

I'm building my first computer, and I'm getting very frustrated. When I try to install Vista it stops at a screen saying there is no drive to install on. I have gone through all the forums and google searches I can muster. I don't believe it to be a BIOS problem, because I've gone through each of the settings and did a process of elimination on all of them. It's not a jumper problem. what else can it be? Do I need a driver? If so can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hard Drives Not Found

Mar 26, 2008

When I get to the part of vista installation where it asks which hard drive I would like to install to it says there are no hard drives found. I have checked multiple times that the hard drive is hooked up correctly, but they are still not found. My hard drive is a Western Digital SATA SE Caviar 500GB. Also, I have looked for SATA drivers that came with my mobo (GIGABYTE GA-X38-DS4) but I don't see any that apply to what I need, as the only drivers that they appear to have are ones for AHCI/RAID configurations which I am not using.

No Drives Were Found: Black Screen

Apr 4, 2009

Anyway after that happened it wouldn't start up, it just came up with a black screen saying:

Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)
copyright (c) 1997-2000 intel corporation
For Realtek RTL8139(X)/8130/810X PCI Fast Ethernet
Controller v2.20 (060711)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PSE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM.

Operating system not found. So then I inserted the Vista Operating Disk which brought me to a screen saying: Where do you wan to install Windows? Underneath there was a message saying: No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation. After that point I could go no further after trying for hours. I also tried using the windows Xp disk which only brought me to a screen saying: Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. .............

Is There A Way To Install On An Old PC That Has No DVD Drives?

Apr 8, 2009

I have an old Dell Dimension 8250 test PC that I would like to install Vista onto. However, it has no DVD drives. I cannot even boot from external USB drives (3.5" disk drive, external HDDs, and DVD burner drive -- CMOS doesn't see them and found out PC doesn't support bootable USB devices). However, I do have enough HDD space (30 GB free on second partition) to copy Vista DVD (or make an ISO file) onto it through network (will take a while).

Clean Re-install Affects ALL Drives?

Jan 31, 2009

Gateway tells me I need to do a Vista X64 clean re-install to possibly solve a severely underperforming CPU (I say its a dead Core).

My system has two SATA HD's with 640Gb. My partition is:

Drive C: 87 free/283Gb Windows on this drive

Drive D: 6/15Gb free Recovery files

Drive J: 255Gb free of 300Gb

I have a GATEWAY install DVD disk. Gateway Recovery does not go back far enough to solve dilemma.

My question is will the Clean install of Vista erase data on all drives or only C (& D) where Vista is stored?

Can I save data on J Drive, install and retrieve data from J?

How To Install 32 & 64 Dual Boot 4 Drives 2 Licensces

Mar 23, 2008

I have been loking but not finding instructions to install 32 and 64 bit Vista ( yes I have 2 seperate licensce -am not trying to cheat Microsoft). I had bought & installed 64 bit vista ultimate-however many devices and programs not compatible. So I bought the 32 bit version as well (i have an individual licensce for each version). SO in stalled the 32 bit version (wiped out the 64 as it interfered with the install). After a week of being on 32 bit, I find that I would also like to install the 64 bit version on a hard drive other thatn the 32 bit install.

I have scoured the Inet and MS sites but only see references to XP and Vista etc. Can anyone really help or point me to install instructions that will guide me on how to now install 64 bit vista so I can enjoy dual booting into either at BOOT? Please don't flame me for not being a genius...... but evrything I find is vague or does not adequately address the question.

Dual Boot: Vista And Vista On 2 Hard Drives?

Jun 19, 2008

There are many articles on how to dual boot Vista and XP, but I want to dual boot Vista and Vista, with an existing installation, on 2 Hard Drives. Currently I switch these in the BIOS, but I'd much rather chose at a later stage, can this be done? Why? Because I keep one of the drives for random software that I rarely use.

VISTA Not To Try To Reconnect To Network Or Mapped Drives?

Jan 29, 2009

This is an issue about VISTA going into "LIMBO" trying to reconnect to my mapped network drives, which I know I don't have access since I'm connected VPN... This issue isn`t isolated to VISTA. I`ve had this issue with all Windows OS, I just never found a solution.

The workstation is part of the network, we log into a DOMAIN (pretty standard...)
Often, when using certain VPNs, the "tunneling security" causes you to loose "Network Connections"... which is fine. I.e. If I have a mapped drive to a share on the network or If my default printer is a Network Printer, I cannot access it. You will get the "Could not reconnect to the network share, etc.etc. or printer is unavailable") Often, same goes for email with Outlook........

When I put the Vista disk in and power on the computer I notice that it loads the HDDs very quickly and sits on the Sony for a long time ~30 seconds. then it checks the disk and says no bootable media found. I observed that if I remove the disk and power on the computer the Sony drive loads just as quickly as the HDDs

Check The Memory For Errors BEFORE I Load/install Windows Vista Home Premium X64 To Avoid Install Hang-ups

May 25, 2008

I would like to check the memory for errors BEFORE I load/install Windows Vista Home Premium x64 to avoid install hang-ups. Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

Windows Vista AND Office 2000: "The Expected Version Of The Product Was Not Found On Your System."

Mar 27, 2008

I've heard conflicting reports as to whether Office 2000 will run successfully under Vista. In the hope that they are compatible, I installed Office 2000 and then installed (from the Microsoft site) updates SR-1a and SP-2. Then I downloaded SP3, but when I attempted to install it, I got the message "The expected version of the product was not found on your system." Is there some reason for this, or should I just try again? I looked for, but could not find, a newsgroup that deals with Office 2000 -- is there an alternative newsgroup that would be better for these questions?

Having Two Copies Of Vista On One Computer: Install Vista On The Smaller Drive, Boot With That, And Access Files On The Other Drive

Dec 25, 2008

Right now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.

My question is-

Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).

I Can't Install Vista 64 Bit

Mar 23, 2008

I have Vista Ultimate upgrade. I'm currently running Win 2000. Obviously I can't install Vista 64 bit from this OS so I'm following the instructions here which says you can boot from CD to install Vista 64 however the previous operating system must not be removed prior to install. In my system Win 2k is on a different hard drive than the one I'm installing to. When I start the install process, on the screen where you select the custom option, it says that upgrade is disabled. I assume this means it did not detect my previous OS? I can install my Win 2k on the hard drive where I wish to install Vista. In the past however, when I had the previous OS on the C: drive and I installed
Vista on the same drive Vista would end up on the next available drive letter (i.e. E. Nothing really wrong with this but it's kind of awkward and can't be changed later.
