VISTA OEM Install: Install Of Vista Instead Of Using The Recovery Disks
Feb 28, 2009I have hp laptop with Vista Home Premium (OEM) installed. I've made Recovery Disks using the Recover Manager. I wish to have a clean install of Vista instead of using the Recovery Disks. I've read previous threads but I have to say I am only getting more confused.
- Can I perform clean install of my Vista OEM?
- Can I use any copy of Vista OEM cd and use the Product Key sticked behind my laptop?.........

May 25, 2008I would like to check the memory for errors BEFORE I load/install Windows Vista Home Premium x64 to avoid install hang-ups. Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

Dec 25, 2008Right now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.
My question is-
Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).

Mar 23, 2008I have Vista Ultimate upgrade. I'm currently running Win 2000. Obviously I can't install Vista 64 bit from this OS so I'm following the instructions here which says you can boot from CD to install Vista 64 however the previous operating system must not be removed prior to install. In my system Win 2k is on a different hard drive than the one I'm installing to. When I start the install process, on the screen where you select the custom option, it says that upgrade is disabled. I assume this means it did not detect my previous OS? I can install my Win 2k on the hard drive where I wish to install Vista. In the past however, when I had the previous OS on the C: drive and I installed
Vista on the same drive Vista would end up on the next available drive letter (i.e. E. Nothing really wrong with this but it's kind of awkward and can't be changed later.

Jun 25, 2009I have Vista Ultimate x64bit and trying to install SP2 Standalone onto my Dell latitude E6400 and is telling me to install SP1 first, but SP1 is installed. Did anyone have simular problem, or suggestion on how to solve this issue? besides installing OS with SP2 included. I googled the S_it out of it, but no go.

May 14, 2009I am experiencing a whole deal of difficulty running a clean install of vista ultimate x64.
Now upon install it seems to boot fine and get into the initial install setup of keyboard type (US etc...) and the selection of the OS, I select my HDD to install vista on and the installation goes away copying files and extracting files ... then upon the reboot to setup the rest of windows this is where it all goes terribly wrong, i have had several different errors and BSODs examples are below:

Now i have researched all the errors i have had show up and can define nothing in common with them all, I have removed the X-FI creative sound card, wireless kbd and mouse and gone back to basics, i have checked all my hardware and it IS compatible with x64 but still no luck.
My system consists of:
M/B - PN5-E SLI
PSU - Thermaltake tough power 1100W
CPU - Q6800 quad core
PGU - EN8800GTS x2
ram - 1G x4 kingston ddr2
HDD - WD 500G
i can get no replication of the error it just goes mental on the initial reboot after installing windows, and then reboots over and over, sometimes it gets further and gets back into windows but then i just get told the pc rebooted unexpectedly or the install was interupted to reboot and reinstall, i have tried to repair the half install but still no resolve (the even weirder thing was i tested vista ultimate x86 (32-bit) and all installs fine.
VIsta SP1 Fails To Install
Jun 17, 2009Vista Ultimate - Win SBS R2 Domain member Symantec Anti-virus Corporate edition ISA firewall client. I have 2 vista systems on my small home network. I tried the push update of SP1 and it failed and I tried the downloaded SP1 and it failed with the usual error codes. I wnet through KB947366 and actually got the long install but it failed in pass 3. My other system had no problems and is at SP2. Both vista systems have nearly the same applications and both are domain members.

Vista Premium SP1 + Install Games
May 14, 2008So when I first bought my Gateway laptop it came with Vista premium, and sure it looked all nice and shinny, but once I tried to install my games and play them I got punched in the face by Microsoft. I got horrible frame rate with ALL my video games. Of course I researched if my games were compatible with Vista.
I know its Vista that makes my games run like crap cause just a month ago I installed XP on my top and got perfect frame rate with all my games. The only reason I went back to Vista is because I couldn't find all the proper drivers for my laptop with XP since its built and only supports Vista. It makes me cry a little inside cause my girlfriend has a Gateway laptop with worse system specs, yet she gets alot higher frame rate cause she uses XP, QQ.
So now comes to my topic; After all the research I did and tricks I tried to improve performance I heard, this was months ago btw, that there wa a service pack coming to Vista that would improve performance. So after hearing that and getting all hyped up I waited and waited... So now we come to today. I just installed SP1 and was kinda excited!

I have gone through all the forums and google searches I can muster. I don't believe it to be a BIOS problem, because I've gone through each of the settings and did a process of elimination on all of them. It's not a jumper problem. what else can it be? Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system Administrator or Software Vendor for support." The error code is C0000020 and on the heading bar is says "SPCLITE.EXE - Bad Image. We have no idea what program or what .dll it is talking about. I am running Malwarebytes on his computer at the moment to see if anything comes up regarding that.

A few weeks after start-up, I bought a couple new drives and wanted to build a RAID.I could set the BIOS up for RAID, type Ctrl+I, assign the RAID drives, but then I would get a BSOD before the Windows Boot GUI. I have WINXP pro on my local C: drive and I was wondering is Vista will let me dual boot if i need to go back to XP. Also I have another drive on my pc with 156 gig of space, in this drive i have many files that I need. I've got a laptop and I'm trying to install Vista Home Premium on it (I have no idea whether or not it's x64 or anything like that). I put in my product key and it works fine, but when it asks where I want it installed, it says "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style." No matter what I do, I cannot get it to work. I keep getting that same message. I don't know what to do.
