Creating Recovery Disk Work On SATA Drives?
			Mar 5, 2009
I am trying to create a recovery disk set that will allow me to image and restore my hard drive, however my last attempt using BARTPE and Driveimaxe xml failed. I was able to backup my hard disk but when i went to restore my partition, I got a bsod. I also tried Acronis home 11 recovery media and it seemed to stall half way through the restore process, backup process wass the same as before. The only way to restore my disk parition is to remove my drive and conect it to an external USB caddy and no problems occur other than it is a little slow and time consuming.

just changed motherboard to k8n sli platinum but now i cannot use my sata HDD , vista just wont boot when the disk is connected. it just keep on going forever in the boot up screen. but in linux , bart pe and other free dos program, it works just fine. i tried to formate it in all of these OS but still no way to boot in vista, i even cant boot from the vista disk with the HDD connected.
NOTE: i juse an IDE HDD to run my system, so the sata disk is just a storage HDD. if i leave the sata disk without any partition or format ,i can boot up in vista. but when i go to disk manager in vista and trie to formate it in vista, it just freez the program and i got to close the disk manager. but vista still work, next time i restart its back to the same , just staying forever on the boot up screen.

Not being too familiar with Sata Drives (I'm used to IDE). I'm asking if you can have two Sata drives on one connection (1 master & 1 slave)?

My suspicions started off on the DVD-R drive I was using, then moved to my motherboard, then to my SATA controller drivers, and now finally lie on Windows Vista itself (dozens of hours of troubleshooting, adding and removing hardware, and re-installing Vista and XP led me to this conclusion).
The S203N worked completely in XP. In Vista, it works "almost" completely. The catch is that when you put a disc in the drive, the volume label in Windows Explorer does not update (nor does the drive icon, or more importantly, the right-click context menu). Sometimes it recognizes data discs as blank, because of this. However, either rebooting the system, or simply logging out and back in (even easier) will "force" the drive to refresh (volume label, icon, and all).............

I recently re-arrange my 4 500GB SATA drives to provide better cooling. The system rebooted fine but every two or three days on booting Vista would kick me back to the BIOS starting screen, or, completely freeze, requiring a reboot. The system then wouldn't boot saying it couldn't find an operating system. Turning the computor off, and a restart would fix the problem until the next time. I resolved this by rearranging my hard drives so that Vistas C drive was the Motherboards logical boot drive. An obvious solution. My question is two fold. Why would BIOS find the Boot Drive sometimes and not others (The disks are not faulty), I perhaps don't fully understand how SATA operates. I have had no further problems to date.

I recently purchased a new system with Vista Home Premium 32bit OS. I have a couple of hard drives (Maxtor) that I would like to recover some files from but when plugged into the new computer, they just don't register. Can't see anything when using IDE or have the hard drives on an adaptor for SATA. The old drives do have XP Pro on them. Is there a clash between OS? How can I read and recover the info I need? I have gone to the Microsoft site to make sure I have all the updates. I have gone to Maxtor to download the up to date installation software. Still nothing. I have checked the BIOS and the SATA ports are initiated (and have talked to the manufacturer HP about the issue and they can't see a problem). I have been able to recognize the old hard drives when I still had the old computer (cleaned it up and gave it to my son with a new hard drive installed). Would like to recover data and start using the old drives as a back up system.

I am configuring/personalizing a new HP Pavilion dv7-2173d with Vista home 64bit OS. I'm making recovery disks using blank CDs I had in the house. Using those disks I need 20 of them. I know the recovery disks will include all the software I won't use and don't want. Do I need to do all 20 to get recovery disks jsut for Vista?

I recently purchased a new machine with Vista installed by the manufacterer. the hard drive has been partitioned with a 10gb section holding recovery files. I was originaly told by the salesman,( who apparently had an overwhelming compunction to lie ) that the partition was the complete installation of the OS and that I could burn as many copies as I wanted. After I got the machine home and powered up I found that several of his claimes were false. including the contents of the partition. What I have are recovery files. OH well, My main problem is that when I try the burn to cd obviously the files wont fit on one disk and I ame unable to insert a second disc to continue the burn without the system going back to the begining and starting over. I must be using the wrong process as I would think that I would be prompted to insert the second disc. Secondly I want the original
instalation disk. I feel that its BS that because I didn't install the OS my self that I don't get a disc. I still payed for the OS. I've done this enough that I know that I need to be prepared for a melt down. And the time to prepare is before it happens. I have alot of questions about imaging on DVD, Bios, etc. but first I want to burn the recovery files.

I heard that Vista has its own recovery manager to create recover disc. I was looking through all of my files and could not find and I couldn't find it. I found back up option which I don't think is the same. Reason for this is that my Vista CD is behind a furniture that I can not be bothered to move and get it. It has been there for last three months. So I want to create recover disc....
I will use some of image creation software and create images but until i save some money to buy Western Digital TB external USB HD I need recovery disc. I am not sure if I am allowed to mention this here but there are a lot of torrent offering recovery disc for Vista 32 and 64. Are they OK to use or creating recovery disc from within Vista itself is better option.

Question: I've never never installed SATA drives, I know that when I connect them up and try to run Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit, it will ask me if I need to install SATA drivers (which I have from the Intel CD) but.... what then happens?
1. I only have one DVD drive so do I then take out the windows CD and insert the Intel driver CD or do I put the drivers on a USB stick or something?
2. How do I format the disks and is it straight forward to set up the RAID array?

My two vista recovery disks. Can i make "ISO" images out of these using "imgburn" i really just thought it would be a good idea to have the two recovery disks that i have as "ISO" images, so i can have these on my other computer as a backup copies...

I have been learning about the "imgburn" program, and thought it would be a good idea to get some practice on creating some ISO images. So if this is fine and ok to do, what would normally happen when i inserted the first disk, would i just cancel out anything that pops up. Windows vista home premium

Long story short, I registered for my Windows 7 upgrade and overwritten my drive (and my restore partition) with the Windows 7 90-day trial in anticipation. problem is, it is clear that my Windows 7 upgrade kit will not be arriving and my 90-day trial is halfway done. so, I have to reinstall Vista. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of Vista because I wiped my drive and so I have to download it (TO BE ACTIVATED ON MY KEY), and I know for a fact that the generic disks for XP, Vista, and Windows 7 do not have a driver for my SATA controller. this means that I have to insert the driver onto the installation.
Since I have to insert my drive driver onto the installation media, I figure I should include drivers, and what the heck include some applications. Now, what applications do you recommend for a basic install of Windows Vista Home Premium that does not use a lot of system resources or otherwise are irrlelvent. So far I have: GO-OO: An OpenOffice clone that includes needed plugins, such as read/write docx support Microsoft Security Essentials.

I need to get a new external HDD for my laptop and I'm thinking of = getting an eSATA drive. My question is this: Can any HDD be turned into = an eSATA drive by housing it an enclosure which has an eSATA port or is = there something special about SATA drives? I'm not sure whether I should = buy an already enclosed SATA or buy the HDD and the enclosure separately = (cheaper option).

I am attempting to flash bios in my DFI board. DFI site says for vista 64 users to create usb bootable disk and flash from there. I have flashed from floppy many times without any problems. They recommend using "HP usb formatting tool". Searching this I came across a thread in this forum I downloaded the tool and win98 boot and folowed the instructions on this page. My usb flash stick was successfully formatted, but the boot files were not installed. The stick shows empty. I have tried several times with the same results. Reason for flashing: I am having memory issues with my, and DFI tech recommended flashing to 1-29-09 version which addresses memory related issues. Off topic comment: Werent we making progress at flashing bios through Windows in XP?

His Vista 64 System details states that his 'D' drive is full, on going to the System properties through the system protection HIS 'D' drive it has been ticked, and it appears that any downloads that are automatic are loading onto the 'D' drive. We have the Microsoft corporate program where you get the products to use through the enterprise. I have been trying to setup a test machine with the 64 bit version of Vista so burned the ISO we created for safge keeping off of one of our network drives. Disc seemingly gets created without issue however when I place it in the DVD drive and choose boot from CD/DVD I get the invalid system disk error just after it says this.

I recently installed Vista and I'm noticing something that I can't seem to remember from XP. My hard drives are going crazy with activity at times during which there really shouldn't be any activity at all. I happen to have 4 Raptors in a RAID0+1 configuration and they sure are noisy when they start thrashing. I have 8 GB of RAM on the system so it shouldn't be the swap file. However, it seems like 25% of the time, my hard drives are going breserk with activity. Is there a tool which will allow me to break down disk activity by process?

I have a 750 GB sata 3.0 HDD which i'm trying to connect to a sata RAID card or motherboard. I've connected my hard drive using an sata cable to both my motherboard and my raid card. When i try either this prevents windows froms starting. The motherboard sata is 3.0gb/s, the raid card is 1.5gb/s. I've tried all jumper settings and made sure all cables are working. I have another sata drive that works with everything. The hdd that works is a samsung, the hdd that doesn't is a western digital recertified.
I have an sata enclosure which has its own powersupply and a sata to esata cable. My hdd above only works when i put the hdd in the enclosure and connect the sata to esata to the motherboard. The enclosure does not work with the raid card.

I had to create a windows recovery disk
I used it to system restore her system to a date before she had set her password
and on the menu it said install vista
and on my old laptop that my dad has it's a 2gb compaq presario
they're not made anymore
it has low memory it's very slow and really
hardly useable without getting very stressed
so if I used the recovery disk I created
and click install vista
will it be like a new laptop?
there's nothing needed on the laptop
so nothing is being lost by resetting the laptop
it's got vista home premium x86

I have a DELL laptop running VISTA. I have noticed that my D (recovery ) drive is almost full. I have gone through the routine of trying to erase all unnecessary files several times. The drive is still almost completely full despite all my efforts. The wastebasket is empty, I have deleted all duplicated files from, nothing works. The computer seems to only use the D drive and the C drive is more than 70% free space.

Unrelated to a recent previous post about a Vista Recovery Disk, I read today on How-To-Geek.com about one that Windows offered that is available for free DL from neosmart.net. It is supposed to function better than the recovery partition that is provided OEM with Vista on laptops. When I went there I DLed the 32-bit torrent file from their link, it turns out to be an html file that is just a bunch of code. I understand that the actual recovery disk is over 100MBs.
Can somebody fill me in about what I am supposed to do to get the actual neosmart torrent file to download with my DL manager (flashget)-- or do I do something with the html file I just got? Or do I have to DL it from their page into a bit torrent program?
