i was messing around with virtual disk programs and made 2 disk drives that are not really there. I can't seem to be able to delete them and its really getting annoying. How can i do this?
View 5 RepliesAm I correct in assuming that, for Windows ME to run in a Virtual PC 2007 window, the Windows ME virtual disk must be located inside a disk partition that is FAT32? On a test run, I tried to install WinME on a virtual disk in a folder that was in my normal Vista partition (NTFS), and it didn't get far. I tried placing the WinME virtual disk inside an FAT32 partition, and although I didn't finish the installation process, I got that far, with the WinME instalation screen having popped up and ready for installation. One other thing: Is it possible to place the WinME virtual disk inside a logical FAT32 partition? Or must it be a primary partition?

Disk Manager: "unable to connect to virtual disk service"
Internet: "Connection Status Unknown, not enough storage is available to complete this operation"
Speakers: "The audio service is not running"
Quick Launch Toolbar: Cannot start Windows Explorer, but other apps ok.
Internet is up and running fine, can still get email and visit web pages.

I recently purchased a Vista Home Premium upgrade package and I want to upgrade by OEM version of XP (Media Center) shipped on my computer. I must also maintain XP on a dualboot partition for legacy applications compatibility issues. My plan is to do a clean install of Vista Premiun updrade, then use Virtual PC to create a virtual XP OS partition using my OEM XP disk. My question is, will this: Does this create a license issue?

We have the Microsoft corporate program where you get the products to use through the enterprise. I have been trying to setup a test machine with the 64 bit version of Vista so burned the ISO we created for safge keeping off of one of our network drives. Disc seemingly gets created without issue however when I place it in the DVD drive and choose boot from CD/DVD I get the invalid system disk error just after it says this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a recovery disk set that will allow me to image and restore my hard drive, however my last attempt using BARTPE and Driveimaxe xml failed. I was able to backup my hard disk but when i went to restore my partition, I got a bsod. I also tried Acronis home 11 recovery media and it seemed to stall half way through the restore process, backup process wass the same as before. The only way to restore my disk parition is to remove my drive and conect it to an external USB caddy and no problems occur other than it is a little slow and time consuming.

My hard drives are going crazy with activity at times during which there really shouldn't be any activity at all. I happen to have 4 Raptors in a RAID0+1 configuration and they sure are noisy when they start thrashing. I have 8 GB of RAM on the system so it shouldn't be the swap file. However, it seems like 25% of the time, my hard drives are going breserk with activity. Is there a tool which will allow me to break down disk activity by process?

But today I was watching it and noticed that all of a sudden it stopped defragmenting and the info changed to 'Analyzing disk...'.

I am a relatively unexperienced windows vista user using windows home premium at 32 bit on an acer aspire 6920 notebook. I noticed that occassionaly my disk space would drop dramatically without me doing anything. 100s of mbs would just disappear for no reason, so probably being stupid i decided to run the disk fragmenter to try and fix the problem. BUT to my horror i was shocked to find that the disk fragmenter began to eat up my hard disk space big style. I went from 79.7GB to 72.5GB in just over an hour. What the hell happened and can it be fixed? can i get my disk space back? i thought the disk fragmenter was supposed to help your computer not rob it. does anyone else have this problem and can someone please help me? im kinda desparate, i cant believe it.

The Help pages suggest that if I delete (or reduce the size of) "Data", the free space becomes unallocated? Can I repartition the disk to allow Vista C: to acces all 140 Gb?

She is currently running XP, but the hardware is old enough that I cannot simply swap the MBs, because a new board will need a different HAL. I was thinking about installing XP and migrating applications. I was wondering what would happen if I cloned her disk to a SATA disk and installed a Vista upgrade on top of the XP disk. I would run setup and provide the appropriate drivers at the F6 prompt. She has used Vista on occasion when we are out-of-town. I have a separate userID on my laptop that is configured to look as much as possible like XP. The question is whether a Vista upgrade would work on top of an XP image that used a lot of older hardware.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP DV7 notebook that I recently added a second SATA 500 GB hard drive in the expansion bay. The purpose of the drive is to serve as a data drive. I also intend to store an image of my system disk on this internal expansion drive so that I can restore my system and apps when I am in the field. For most purposes the drive seems to be functioning normally. However, I recently noticed that, without my instructions, HP Updates were installing suipport files on my expansion disk rather than on my system disk and I have become concerned that Windows Updates may also end up on the expansion drive (so far they appear not to have done this). On further inspection in Computer Management - Disk Managment I discovered that when I put the expansion drive into the 2nd bay, my original system disk was automatically bumped from the Disk 0 position to the Disk 1 position and my expansion disk became the new Disk 0.
In Computer Managment - Disk Management the system currently looks like
Disk 0 - F: Expansion Drive - Healthy, Primary Partition
Disk 1 - C: - Healthy, System, Boot, Page File, Active, Crash Dump,Primary Partition.
If I physically pull out the F: drive from the machine the C: drive returns to the Disk 0 position. I am concerned that my system and application updates are going to get splattered across two drives when I want them to remain on the original C: drive. I can find no way in BIOS or Computer Management - Disk Management to assign the Disk and physically swapping the drives makes the system disk unbootable. Am I at risk of splattering my Window updates across two drives? Should I instruct Vista to regard my system disk C: as Disk 0 and how to I do this?
can you tell me a way to uninstall Call of Duty other than through putting in the disk and pressing UNINSTALL or in the 'All Programs'? Because it just won't uninstall there: I press install and the window simply closes and nothing else. View 7 Replies View RelatedI changed the Boot sequence to CD first, then HDD. Everything ran fine and vista seemingly loaded perfectly. After moving some files from my backup drive back onto my main one and installing some drivers, I was asked to restart my computer (for the drivers) so I did. Remembering that the boot sequence was still set on CD first, and since my driver CD was still in the drive, I decided to set the boot sequence back to the way I had it with XP: HDD and then CD. After doing this I quit BIOS and tried to boot, but I kept getting a message saying: DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER.
So I restarted the computer again, this time with my Vista CD in the drive, and again, the computer wouldn't boot and told me to enter a boot disk. Not knowing what to do, I went back into BIOS and changed the boot sequence back to CD first, then HD. After doing this, and restarting with the Vista CD in the drive, my computer booted up with no problems whatsoever. I tried reinstalling Vista (twice), reformatting the target hard drive, changing the boot sequence around, pretty much everything I could think of......
I have Vist 64 bit, 4gig mem, E6850, 500gig HD SATA II, What would be the gains, if indeed there are any, if I installed a E-IDE 160 gig drive - slave to my DVD writer, THEN used it as Vitual memory for the OS. Could also allocate 'temp' forlders, Nero's caching, and so on. Anybody have a clue OR am I talking a load of c&*$. ?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe other night I was in a rush and I held down the power button until it shut off. the next day I tryed turning it on and after the MB homepage came up for 3 secs on the top left hand corner of the screen it said "Disk boot failure, please insert boot disk and press enter" so i fooled around with the priority settings a little bit and nothing worked. I then inserted the windows vista CD and it would say "Loading windows files" then the loading bar came up and it would always freeze at the same point and after about a minute a blue screen came up saying a problem occured and is shutting off the computer to prevent further damage. Iv tryed everything. could my hard drive be damaged or something? Please someone help me. I cant work with much because i cant even get into windows! :-( All i can work with is the Setup menu

The only command I have noticed is DISKCOPY which might do this. Will this copy everything from the source disk to destination disk? Will the Vista backup directories and shadow (backup) files be copied too? Is there any other tool (preferably freeware) that will do this for me?

I think I messed up my hard drive while trying to erase the EISA partition on it. It's a Gateway P7811-FX laptop with a single 200 GB hard drive. Before, I only had 1 main partition: the C: Drive (176.31 GB), along with the hidden 10 GB EISA partition. After making recovery disks, I followed this tutorial: Delete and Remove to Unlock EISA Hidden Recovery or Diagnostic Partition in Vista » My Digital Life
Following that, I went in Disk Management. The hidden partition showed up, but I couldn't extend the C drive to use the unallocated 10 GB, so I converted it to a simple 10 GB volume. Then I used Acronis Disk Director Suite and merged the two partitions. And now, I can't do anything in Disk Management. There's only one partition now (186.31 GB), but when I right click on it, there's no options to create, shrink, delete, or extend the partition. They were there before, but the only option that shows up is Help.
Under Status, it says Healthy (Active, EISA Configuration). I think I merged the partitions the wrong way, so now there's no "System, Boot, Page File..." partition. Everything is on the EISA partition. When I try to run Acronis, the program doesn't load up. I've tried using Diskpart but I can't create any new partitions either.
I have uninstalled programs before and I thought they were gone. Then something would happen and I would do a system restore. When I did there are the program (s) I thought I uninstalled. So how does one permanently delete/uninstall programs completely? I was under the assumption that if you uninstalled something it was deleted.

Why am I still getting the "need permission" error when trying to uninstall programs? Unlocker will not unlock them for removal. My PC is getting full of unwanted software thanks to all these confusing poorly designed MS safety features.
