I want to have two flash drives working in like a raid mirror.I can plug in one of the usb flash drives and get say a new E:, but of course if I plug in the second one I get a f:
Is there a way to have windows vista (or 7 I guess) configured so that the two flash drives are just the E: and they are working in a raid mirror config via software ?
I have my old XP load on my C drive and Vista on the D drive. I'm ready to wipe out XP (I know lots of folks would go the other way) so I can create a mirror copy of Vista for fault tolerance. Before I enable RAID in the firmware, I'm thinking I need to format the C drive. However the Disk Management utility has the format command grayed out for the C drive. It shows up as:
Disk 0: C: NTFS, Healthy (System, Active, Primary Partition)
My D drive is: Disk 2: D: NTFS, Healthy (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary
Partition)
What is the proper way to wipe out C so I can create my RAID mirror?
Want to set up Raid 1 for two identical drives, not boot. One has some data on it, other empty. Have vista ultimate 64. Do I have to reinstall?

They are controlled by Intel matrix storage manager software. I want to have the two hard drives separate, like drive C and Drive D In the Bios I have two choices ATA or Raid, I have tried both ways to have them separate, however still can't. I have to say that I found this forum by chance, by goodness I am glad I did with drivers for my scanner and printer.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista on a Dell XPS 420. I came home to find both drives failed in a RAID 1 mirror. Dell gave me no help recovering data, but did send two new drives. I have installed Vista on one of the new drives without RAID. I wanted to see if I could recover any files from the failed drives, but I can't seem to get Vista to recognize either of the old drives that were in the failed RAID array. The failed drive does appear during boot up and still shows as part of a failed array. How can I get Vista to recognize the failed drive so that I can then attempt to run file recovery software on it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to set up a new PC with RAID 0 using Vista x64 Home Edition Premium. However, I'm having no luck. (Hours of scouring various forums have yielded nothing as well.) I've set up 2 RAID 0 partitions across my 2 SATA drives using Intel's Matrix Storage Manager. (CTRL + I thing at boot). When I load up Vista for installation, it recognizes the partitions but refuses to let me install on them. I get an alert at the bottom of the screen saying that my "...computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I'm not completely clear on what this means, but after entering BIOS, I have my drive configuration set to configure SATA as RAID. Attempting to continue the installation yields something like "Windows cannot find a drive that is suitable for installation" (not verbatim, sorry.) I have downloaded all of Intel's drivers for my motherboard and have even hunted down the RAID driver for my HDDs. I put all of those files onto a USB drive, but Vista doesn't seem to recognize any of them.

His Vista 64 System details states that his 'D' drive is full, on going to the System properties through the system protection HIS 'D' drive it has been ticked, and it appears that any downloads that are automatic are loading onto the 'D' drive. Could some one point me in the right direction so that I can do this. My hard disk has a hidden partition of 7.8GB with EISA Configuration but in the Disk Management it says it is 100% Free. The other partition is C: which is my system partition. I hope I have given enough information if not please let me know. I have also requested the Acer but I believe they will only direct me to their eRecovery Management Tool.

I installed it with a dual boot putting Vista on a little partition so I could see how I liked it. No I am ready to wipe out my XP and Previous Vista and start over. However all I have is this big zip file and unpacked there is no documentation or anything for that matter on how to make a disk, or make a disk from an ISO file.

I have been trying to setup a test machine with the 64 bit version of Vista so burned the ISO we created for safge keeping off of one of our network drives. Disc seemingly gets created without issue however when I place it in the DVD drive and choose boot from CD/DVD I get the invalid system disk error just after it says this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a recovery disk set that will allow me to image and restore my hard drive, however my last attempt using BARTPE and Driveimaxe xml failed. I was able to backup my hard disk but when i went to restore my partition, I got a bsod. I also tried Acronis home 11 recovery media and it seemed to stall half way through the restore process, backup process wass the same as before. The only way to restore my disk parition is to remove my drive and conect it to an external USB caddy and no problems occur other than it is a little slow and time consuming.

I recently installed Vista and I'm noticing something that I can't seem to remember from XP. My hard drives are going crazy with activity at times during which there really shouldn't be any activity at all. I happen to have 4 Raptors in a RAID0+1 configuration and they sure are noisy when they start thrashing. I have 8 GB of RAM on the system so it shouldn't be the swap file. However, it seems like 25% of the time, my hard drives are going breserk with activity. Is there a tool which will allow me to break down disk activity by process?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Windows 7 RC1 with the intent of adding a partition to my HDD and dual booting. My understanding is that I would need a 16GB partition. My Disk Management Console tells me I have two existing primary partitions (expected). D (the recovery partition) is 6.62GB. The other (C) makes up the difference (~142GB) and has 47.1GB free space. When I begin the "shrink volume" process, it says that only 3MB is available to shrink C. I checked the page file and it has less than 3GB allocated to it. So, I have two questions. First, why isn't more shrinkage ;>) space available? Two, assuming that with your help I can find more space, if I try to create a 16GB partition from C will I significantly affect computer performance?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI thought I had been able to make a backup of a Vista Ultimate System on a Raid0 array (C: partition using the standalone Acronis True Image 10 boot disk) and copy it back to a non-Raid disk. For some reason Vista will not boot correctly and the Vista boot disk Repair Option thinks about it for 5 minutes or so and then says it can't fix the problem. I know I have done this trick with WinXP and I thought I had done it with Vista. I know I can do the save/restore routine (Raid0 to Raid0) with the Acronis standalone software. what I have to do to get a Raid0 version of Vista Ultimate transferred to a non-Raid disk using all the same hardware.
I have the Vista Ultimate System on a network so I can backup to a different controller and hard drive, delete the array, reformat using Partition Magic 8.0 and restore. The only reason I am trying to do this trick is because the SATA controller on the motherboard does not support Raid Arrays and SATA DVD Drives together...and...I want to install multiple SATA DVD Drives on this system.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 (system specs: laptop 2.1 Ghz core 2 duo, 4 gb RAM, 500gb hd (about half full) nvidia 8400M GS, Avira Premium Security Suite). I have had the computer for about a year running fine with 1 main admin account. Now when I need to create an account for another user I cannot create one, either admin or standard. When I create it, using either the control panel or command prompt, it creates the user picture, making the account visible on the control panel user accounts screen, and on logon screen. However, when trying to log into the new account I am greeted with the error "User profile service failed on logon. User profile cannot be loaded." The standard fix for this from various forums is to edit the registry key of the account. However, on going to regedit I see that no key even exists for the account. On further investigation I discover that no user files have been created either. I attempted a system restore, but discovered that all my past restore points were gone, and intruigingly, the computer had stopped createing 24 hour checkpoints. I cannot say for definite whether it was this issue or another one that caused system restore to mess up, as I don't check my system restore all that often. Either way, system restore is not an option. There have been mentions of a full Vista reinstall, though if at all possible I would like to avoid this.

Check to see if the disc is full.I have over 180 GB free space left. To get things to the desktop i can drag it into the tab section next to the start icon, and then drag onto desktop.But when i do this i am always required to give permission and it creates two desktop icons.i have been having problems with my catalyst control centre but i dont think they are related.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a 250Gb IDE drive that I use to just keep usless stuff on. It came out of my old XP box. I see my 500Gb sata drive fine .. obviously since I installed Vista on it. When the box boots it sees the IDE drive and device manager see the IDE drive too! Alas when you open windows explorer up you do not see that drive at all! I don't get it! I checked the DMA settings and it is enabled for each of the channels. I'll keep google-ing in the mean time!
