I have uninstalled programs before and I thought they were gone. Then something would happen and I would do a system restore. When I did there are the program (s) I thought I uninstalled. So how does one permanently delete/uninstall programs completely? I was under the assumption that if you uninstalled something it was deleted.

Why am I still getting the "need permission" error when trying to uninstall programs? Unlocker will not unlock them for removal. I have a placed a folder (contacts) on my desktop that I placed there for temporary use, I am now finished updating and backing it up, so I want to delete it. I can delete it, but then when I restart the computor it is there again. I have deleted all the files in the folder, but how do I delete the folder permanently off my desktop.

I have a XP home basic from my last computer and I loved it as it was easy to use and I didn't need to update all my stuff. I want to install XP on my new computer but have never done this before. have already backed up all my important files on CD, but don't know what to do next. my computer didn't come with any back up discs of any kind.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Business x64 SP1. I'm having a problem where programs will suddenly be gone from my system. I used to think this only happened when booting up, but I have noticed that the programs can disappear even when Vista's been running for a while. Here are some of the programs that disappear: SQL Server Management Studio, Java, Logitech SetPoint x64, Firefox, SQLNCLI, Lexmark printer drivers, Visual SVN (A Visual Studio 2008 plugin). The weird thing is, not all of the program's files will be gone. For instance, the folders will still be there and some of the files will be too, but some of the files necessary for the program to run will be gone.
Some times, but not all, when I boot my computer the ethernet port will not work. If I plug the cable into my other ethernet port, I will get internet, but not through the first one. If I reboot the system, I'll get a connection through the port. If I try to Disable and re-enable the port, windows will run up one of the processors and the system will be unresponsive for a while. After 5-10 minutes, it will finish, but it is then not possible to re-enable the port. I've had a problem with SetPoint disappearing before SP1, but only noticed the other programs disappearing recently.
I need to uninstall several programs from my computer that are not listed in the uninstall list under Control Panel. I do not have a lot of experience. I have an HP 64 bit system with dual processors and a 500 gig hard drive. Please how do I uninstall these programs? I have Glary Utilities with uninstall and it cannot find the programs to uninstall them. I can find the folders myself but deleting them doesn't uninstall them. The programs work and I can access them through shortcuts on my desktop.
I have a dell laptop, upgraded from XP to Vista Ultimate with SP1. All programs installed prior to upgrade have lost the ability to be uninstalled. In the add/remove programs list - when clicking on a program I want to remove the uninstall button is missing...on a newer program it will reappear? so, I go to programs and features under control panel, but there is no uninstall/change/repair anywhere to be seen.
I would like to uninstall WinZip 14.
I installed Vista Ultimate about 8 months ago. This was an upgrade from XP. I just now have had the need to do an uninstall. I went to my Admin User account (although my normal user account has Admin privileges) and when I go to Add/Remove programs, there are no command lines for Uninstall/Remove/Repair programs.
I verified that my normal user account had Admin privileges. Logged into it and it does not have the capability to do any of the above. I even added a new user with Admin privileges, no success. I then re-installed Vista Ultimate as an "upgrade" again, still the same problem. All my user accounts have full security access, so I know that's not it. I've read through the threads and although there are similar admin issues, I haven't seen this specific one. I have tried a couple of the suggestions for other Admin problems to no avail.
Is there any reason for me to install a program to the other program files, or is it there just to provide stability? Im trying to figure these 2 out, and really I would perfer to only have 1 program files, just so I dont get them confused. Is there any way to have every program I install go directly to (86), and eventually just uninstall and delete everything in the original program files?

My question is I have 3 MS Visual C++ 2005(2 redist. and 1 ATL updates) and 3 MS Visual C++2008( 2redist. and 1 ATL updates) so I am wondering can I delete/remove the 2005 files/programs and not mess my system up. However, with the wired keyboard and mouse replaced by a wireless USB keyboard and mouse, the case and cpu fans continue to run indefinitely after shutdown (or until the PSU is switched off). This happens even if the unit is cold and turned on and off immediately I have tried with two different wireless keyboard and mice systems, one Logitech and the other an unbranded unit and it makes no difference. Both these systems work fine on other computers. So I don't think that's the problem. BUT... if I leave the hardwired keyboard plugged in (purple plug) whilst using the wireless keyboard and mouse the fans stop at shutdown as normal.... if I plug the wired keyboard in whilst the fans are running on as in 1. above, the fans stop immediately! I have tried the wireless keyboard and mouse in all the USB ports - but no difference. I flash the mobo BIOS as a starter?

I have tried suggestions from IE going to options and then "general", but there is no place to change the size of the font.... One of the reasons I don't use the new e-mail set up is because the print is too small and everything is bunched together. They weren't thinking of senior citizens when they designed that!
View 9 Replies View RelatedA long time ago I installed a Mac theme because I grew so weary of the Vista theme. But, when I uninstalled it, it never seemed to do so correctly (i.e., logon screen still has a mac background). I didn't care so much because it was only the logonscreen. BUT. Recently I was surfing the internet and found out (YEAH I hear everything first!! xD) that Vista Home Premium slows down your computer. So, I switched to Vista Basic. But I grew tired of that too and wanted to switch back. BUT THERE IS NO AERO THEME! THERE ARE ONLY 3 VISTA BASICS! 2 of them are mac themes and then there is the original Vista Basic theme.
I found the Aero theme in the /windows on the HDD and when I click it, the Vista Basic theme chooser doesn't show up, but Windows Vista Premium. This is all very strange. OH, I almost forgot. The files that are in the themes folder are: MAC OS X 10.5, VistaOSX Theme, Windows Classis and Aero. Also there are folders named: Aero, leo4, VistaOSX9. I tried moving the files and folders that were in VistaOSX folder to the desktop and then copying the ones from Aero to there, but then the VIstaOSX theme disappeared (or one of the Basics and VIstaOSX turned into the new basic cuz I put the files in there).
I have installed some programs on the computer of my kids and I dont want them to fiddle with their icons which are found near the time they are closing the programs all the time. I dont even want to hide the icons, I want them gone from the taskbar without effecting the operation of the program. I know XP allows icons to be always hidden but then you can reveal them by clicking on the small arrow buttons i dont want that, just want them gone.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Windows Vista Home Premium on an HP Pavillion DV9000 laptop and since day one, the task bar clock has NEVER shown the correct time. The correct time zone is displayed, I have disabled the internet updates and I have set the correct time who knows how many times. However it can take DAYS for it to move forward minutes. sometimes, it does a time warp and goes back in time. The BIOS clock has no problems, displays the correct date and time every time, but it is now beginning to bug the heck out of me.

I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
Somehow the 'uninstall' button disappeared for most programs on my Vista Home Premium box when I used Control Pannel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program. A few programs still have 'uninstall' button available - those have 'installed on' showing. The rest (80+% of all)don't have 'installed on' values showing and don't have 'uninstall' button.

For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i go to start, all programs, all my folders/programs show up, but then i noticed that theres a "programs" folder within the list, and when i click that, it shows all the same folders/programs that are in the "all programs" list. but then some of the folders within the ones in the 'all programs" list, they are empty, but they show up in the programs folder in the list. i dont know how this happened and i just wanted to know how to fix this issue.

Now, that works "just fine"...but ONLY while a session of WM remains active! Indeed, as soon as WM is being shut down and relaunched, this previously altered setting (eg. to "Larger") will have reverted back to its initial default (ie. in my case it's "Medium")! So can someone kindly advise me now how I could alter this specific setting to...permanent?
