Change Font Size Permanently
Sep 15, 2009Is there anyway to permanently change the font size to a larger print in Windows Vista. I have tried suggestions from IE going to options and then "general", but there is no place to change the size of the font.... One of the reasons I don't use the new e-mail set up is because the print is too small and everything is bunched together. They weren't thinking of senior citizens when they designed that!

My default font was changed about 2 weeks ago (long story as to how and why) to something that looks like GEORGIA or LUCIDA or something similar, and was forgotten to be changed back. So every webpage I open, every menu option, is all in this new font which I dislike.

Mar 17, 2009Last week I purchased my 1st laptop and thus entered the world of Vista after running Win XP home since it 1st came out. I'm a senior at 62, and my eyesight isn't the best anymore. I tried 1024x600 for larger font size but didn't like how graphics and Icons looked, so I went back to the default of 1288x600. My problem is the the font size including emails is just too small, so I'm forced to continually use Control + to increase it. Is there a way to change the font size so I don't have to do this. I'm running Firefox 3.07 and the latest version of Thunderbird. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5934

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > Internet Explorer > Settings > I modified Always Use My Font Size from (1) to (0). Initially, I was doing my searching using the entire computer and it literally took hours. Since I knew that searching KEY_CURRENT_USERS was a waste of time (you had already suggested deleting Windows Mail), I only searched for key words using LOCAL MACHINE. This allowed me to shorten search times to a reasonalbe amount.

Now, that works "just fine"...but ONLY while a session of WM remains active! If I go through the control panel to the fonts folder it will not let me copy the front from there. It will let me right click the font to copy, but not let me paste onto a memory stick. Jan 21, 2010this is my first post and I'm not an experienced Vistaman! I have a custom built media centre which works fine with a wired keyboard and mouse. However, with the wired keyboard and mouse replaced by a wireless USB keyboard and mouse, the case and cpu fans continue to run indefinitely after shutdown (or until the PSU is switched off). This happens even if the unit is cold and turned on and off immediately I have tried with two different wireless keyboard and mice systems, one Logitech and the other an unbranded unit and it makes no difference. Both these systems work fine on other computers. So I don't think that's the problem. BUT... if I leave the hardwired keyboard plugged in (purple plug) whilst using the wireless keyboard and mouse the fans stop at shutdown as normal.... if I plug the wired keyboard in whilst the fans are running on as in 1. above, the fans stop immediately! I have tried the wireless keyboard and mouse in all the USB ports - but no difference. I flash the mobo BIOS as a starter?

Jan 4, 2009A long time ago I installed a Mac theme because I grew so weary of the Vista theme. But, when I uninstalled it, it never seemed to do so correctly (i.e., logon screen still has a mac background). I didn't care so much because it was only the logonscreen. BUT. Recently I was surfing the internet and found out (YEAH I hear everything first!! xD) that Vista Home Premium slows down your computer. So, I switched to Vista Basic. But I grew tired of that too and wanted to switch back. BUT THERE IS NO AERO THEME! THERE ARE ONLY 3 VISTA BASICS! 2 of them are mac themes and then there is the original Vista Basic theme.
I found the Aero theme in the /windows on the HDD and when I click it, the Vista Basic theme chooser doesn't show up, but Windows Vista Premium. This is all very strange. OH, I almost forgot. The files that are in the themes folder are: MAC OS X 10.5, VistaOSX Theme, Windows Classis and Aero. Also there are folders named: Aero, leo4, VistaOSX9. I tried moving the files and folders that were in VistaOSX folder to the desktop and then copying the ones from Aero to there, but then the VIstaOSX theme disappeared (or one of the Basics and VIstaOSX turned into the new basic cuz I put the files in there).
Permanently Hiding Icons In Taskbar
Feb 12, 2009I have installed some programs on the computer of my kids and I dont want them to fiddle with their icons which are found near the time they are closing the programs all the time. I dont even want to hide the icons, I want them gone from the taskbar without effecting the operation of the program. I know XP allows icons to be always hidden but then you can reveal them by clicking on the small arrow buttons i dont want that, just want them gone.

The correct time zone is displayed, I have disabled the internet updates and I have set the correct time who knows how many times. However it can take DAYS for it to move forward minutes. sometimes, it does a time warp and goes back in time. The BIOS clock has no problems, displays the correct date and time every time, but it is now beginning to bug the heck out of me.

regarding font size.
Since then all my html messages use size 12 in Windows Mail, Live Mail, or
Yahoo Mail.
I can specify the use of a different size, but as soon as I type anything,
the size reverts to 12.
I can change any other attribute such as face, bold, etc. and they all
work.
I would like to reinstall Windows Mail but I understand that's not possible
as it's inseparable from Vista.
I've run sfc /scannow and there are no problems.
The only solution that seems possible it to fix or replace that registry
line I screwed up.

This is useful for people who want high resolution desktops but find it hard to read small text (without sitting really close which is bad for eyes). I know there's a DPI setting in Vista just as there is in XP, but it's not the same as Font size.
