In my Programs and Features are a list of everything I use. My question is I have 3 MS Visual C++ 2005(2 redist. and 1 ATL updates) and 3 MS Visual C++2008( 2redist. and 1 ATL updates) so I am wondering can I delete/remove the 2005 files/programs and not mess my system up. I am doing my annual housecleaning and noticed these C++'s but afraid to remove without getting the go ahead from VF tech's.
Ive been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I have been trying for a week unsuccessfully to remove programs from my computer. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS. Each time I try to uninstall a program it tells me that the system administrator has set policies to prevent this. Now I am the only one using this computer and I check and it shows that I am the administrator and there are no other accounts on this computer. Is there anyway to do this?
In Windows Vista, are programs all tied in with each other as they are in XP? What I really mean is this: If I were to go to Vista, can I remove associated programs such as Outlook Express, Internet Explorer and/or other programs which just occupy space on my computer, but which I never use?
I need to uninstall an annoying software. I can't seem to do it with vista. With XP, I could just go to the control panel and than add/remove programs. But with Vista, the closest thing I can see on there is Add hardware.
I want to remove some programs from the autoplay menu but don't want to uninstall, for example Nero but just remove Nero's photoscap viewer from the menu when I insert an SD card to upload images. I'd rather Nikon's ViewNX were on the menu but it isn't. Any ideas how to get it there? Windows Vista help only tells me how to change autoplay defaults, not how to list or unlist on the autofault menu.
I bought a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Vista on it. It has the typical performance problems that have been noted for laptops running Vista. It receives a "Windows Experience Index" of 2.0. The first thing you are told to do to improve performance is eliminate programs from startup. But when I go through the long list of programs, I often can't tell what they do. For instance, I see in this list "Avantquest Digital Line Detection," "Dell Quick Set," "Synaptics Pointing Device," and "Java (TM) Platform SE 6U5," among many others. Do I just start experimenting and see what happens when I turn them off? That seems very risky. After all, that "pointing device"--that's my touchpad, isn't it? If I turned off my touchpad, I think my computer would be useless to me, because I do not know how to turn the touchpad on again without the touchpad. In short:is there a way to know which programs would be the best ones to turn off? In case it is not already obvious, I do not know a lot about computers. My experience with Vista has been frustrating, because I feel like I do not have the specialized technical training required to make my laptop work well.
I have a dell laptop, upgraded from XP to Vista Ultimate with SP1. All programs installed prior to upgrade have lost the ability to be uninstalled. In the add/remove programs list - when clicking on a program I want to remove the uninstall button is missing...on a newer program it will reappear? I have many programs I would like to uninstall but no option to do so. I have read every post I could find without any luck.
when a virus or I do something stupid or an interruption occurs. If this results in a partial installation but no unstall file existing.. It is impossible to re-install that application, or to remove the entry from programs and features.

If you have User Account Protection enabled and are tired of all of the prompts that you get when you try to delete a protected file then this tweak is for you!
One way to cut down on the number of prompts that you get is to disable the delete file confirmation box. If you are trying to delete a system file you are presented with first the delete confirmation box and then the UAC authorization pop-up boxes. By disabling the delete confirmation box you can get rid of one of the pop-up boxes that you are forced to click through each time. Follow these steps to disable the Delete confirmation box:
Right click on your Recycle Bin on the desktop and select Properties.
On the bottom of the Recycle Bin Properties window, uncheck Display delete confirmation dialog.
Hit OK and you are finished.
Keep in mind that you will also no longer get a delete confirmation when you delete files that are not protected by UAC. That will allow you to delete a file without any confirmation at all. If you make a mistake and delete a file by accident, just restore it from the Recycle bin. After all, that is what it is for!
I am using Windows Vista 32 Bit, laptop, it came with a with a Crive & a Drive, is there anyway to remove or delete the Drive, as I do not use ut at all. I do not want it.
I have uninstalled programs before and I thought they were gone. Then something would happen and I would do a system restore. When I did there are the program (s) I thought I uninstalled. So how does one permanently delete/uninstall programs completely? I was under the assumption that if you uninstalled something it was deleted.
I'm the admin of this computer and User Account is turned off.... how do I get to uninstall or delete unwanted programs in Vista Home Premium? Why am I still getting the "need permission" error when trying to uninstall programs? Unlocker will not unlock them for removal. My PC is getting full of unwanted software thanks to all these confusing poorly designed MS safety features.
Not sure how to name this but you know when you compose a new message, and start typing an address and the list that comes up with your contacts that you have written to before and you can pick one without typing the whole thing? In OE, Outlook, etc, you could highlight a bad address and click delete to remove it from the list. That doesn't function in Windows Mail. How can you edit this list?
I am the only user on my laptop. I accepted the Toshiba settings when I bought the machine, but I realise that there are a number of features that are disabled that (as an administrator) I should be able to use. for example:
1. Windows Defender will show me the details of start-up programs but not allow me to remove/enable/disable anything (the buttons are greyed-out/disabled).
2. There are some folders (e.g. in my internet favourites) which are read-only and when I switch read-only off, it ignores what I've done - they remain read-only.
While installing a program, the process was interrupted and the install created 62000 files using 160gig in my syswow64 folder virtually using all my hd space. However when you go into the syswow64 folder, there is only about 2000 files and 1 gig of space used. I have set the folders to show all hidden files. When I go into the ms dos prompt and do a directory, the files match the 1 gig data.
I can't delete these 62000 files and free up the 160 gig space because I don't believe they are actually there on the hard drive but explorer thinks they are there. Is there any way to rebuild, sync, or otherwise get windows explorer to recognize the correct amount of files that are actually in my syswow64 folder.(2000files 1gig and not 62000files 160gig)
I am running Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I have a folder on my desktop named Downloads that I use for, shockingly, downloads. Anyway, there are a couple of files in the folder that are, apparently, not really there. They are like ghost files. They used to exist but now they are still visible but not recognized by any program. Also, they have a size of 0 kb!
I'd like to get rid of them but they refuse to be deleted. When I try to delete them, I get this:
So I figured that I'd delete the whole folder........or not:
My OS is Windows Vista Business and I am attempting to disable the auto startup of a program. I located the program in Windows Defender, Category: Startup Programs but all options to "Remove, Disable and Enable" are grayed out. I also noticed the majority though not all auto startup programs in the Startup Category are grayed out. Why is this? What other course of action may I take to disable the unneeded auto startup of unnecessary programs? Also, my inquiry pertains specifically to an HP Digital Camera software.
Because of a mistake I made while installing Vista, I wound up with the system files (about 1.6 Gig) on one small D: drive while all of the remaining Windows files (over 50 Gig) on the large C: drive. I now want to remove the D: drive and replace it with a large one. How do I move the system files to the C: drive?
I am running win Vista 32. I have the following email programs running, Windows Mail, MS Outlook and outlook express. I only want to run one and thinking about windows mail. What would be the best and What is the best way to remove outlook and outlook exprss email programs.
I was using Auslogics Disk Defrag, and I was told about "junk files" in the disks that I should scan and remove. When I click the link , it was trying to sell me the software. I'm not ready to buy yet. Any way to remove the junk files without spending money ? It does not identify the junk files and the locations, so I don't know how to look them up.
I bought vista ultimate 32 for my new build and I have had nothing but problems. When trying to install 3 different games, i get an error when it is "configuring visual c++ 2005 redistributable. i am very angry that microsofts own plugins dont work with their own operating system and I must pay $60 to have them fix it. I am not going to pay them to fix their own problem. I have spent $180 on 3 games and NONE of them work...
I have disabled some start up programs I do not want to sart up in Vista. I keep getting this annoying message reminding me of this when Windows start and when it is open. In XP there was a check box to keep this from showing, how do I turn this off in Vista.
Also I sometimes get files by e-mail such as Access programs that I am working on for a customer. Windows Vista will not let me open these. Message: This file is located outside your intranet or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open this file due to potential security problems. To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network location. I copied it to my D partition but still Vista will not let me open it. I had to copy it to my zip drive and then open it on my XP computer.
I must devellope a programme with visual 2005 and I must ensure that it operates under vista. My program is working properly when I execute from visual, but when I use just the executable, the program crashes. Apparently, the error would be in the file glee.c but I use the last version. There is no probleme with XP. I work on vista 32 familial premium edition SP1, with visual 2005 SP1 for vista. Has someone already had the same kind of probleme?
Did anyone figure on how to run Bard's tale (2005 ver.) in vista? It states that I need media player 9. I installed Media player 9 and still no Luck. There are no patches that I know of. Even installing from a folder on the hard drive in XP, Win 98 or 95 Compatability.
5 days ago I posted a problem about not being able to download exe files and not being able to install programs from CD's. The problem had been addressed a couple of years ago and none of those solutions worked, along with no recent listings of the problem. What did I do wrong on my post that I had no comments, suggestions or assistance offered at all?
