I was using Auslogics Disk Defrag, and I was told about "junk files" in the disks that I should scan and remove. When I click the link , it was trying to sell me the software. I'm not ready to buy yet. Any way to remove the junk files without spending money ? It does not identify the junk files and the locations, so I don't know how to look them up.

I want all downloaded mail to stay in the inbox until I move it. I always was able to DELETE the junk mail box in Outlook, and that is the way I prefer it. Why does MS have to make things harder instead of easier?!

I purchased Vista Home Premium in Jan 08. Since then I have been unable to open files previously stored on Cds that were saved when I had Windows XP as my program?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMicrosoft has spent a lot of work on updating Offline Files in Windows Vista with the new Sync Center. For those of you that do not know or use Offline Files, they are simply a local replica of a file that is on a network share. These replicas allow you to work on files you have set to be available offline even if you are not connected to say your corporate network or home server. You can manage all of the offline file settings in one place, the Sync Center.
The only problem I have with the new offline files is the massive green icon that is appended on top of any file that is setup to sync as an offline file. This provides a nice visual clue but often blocks a big portion or almost the entire icon depending on your explorer view. This is unnecessary and since you can manage your offline file from the new Sync Center, it is no longer really needed to find out what files are setup to be synced.
Follow these steps to disable the offline files logo from appearing on your files:
Click on the Start Menu, key in regedit and hit Enter........

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have experienced two instances were Add/Remove in Vista does not remove all the software, so that comprehensive installation of similar software is not possible. The first concerned a Scanner, where Add/Remove would not remove all the software, so that installation of the new Scanner is not possible, until a procedure recommended by the Scanner's makers involving modifications to the Registry is carried out, which I could not possibly do myself, so it means hiring a Professional to do the job!
The second concerns Spellex. Here again the old version has not been removed, so that installation of the latest version is not fully carried out, making the software useless. How can Microsoft produce Windows where such problems occur? What is the experience of others in case this is a fault with my computer?

I am configuring/personalizing a new HP Pavilion dv7-2173d with Vista home 64bit OS. I'm making recovery disks using blank CDs I had in the house. Using those disks I need 20 of them. I know the recovery disks will include all the software I won't use and don't want. Do I need to do all 20 to get recovery disks jsut for Vista?

How many years did it take Microsoft to develop this junk? I have the latest drivers/software/ quad core intel 6700 CPU with a modern motherboard and running 8GB of RAM. Yeah....I anticipate that you are all screaming and tearing your hair out and gnashing your teeth because I have told the truth about this piece of OS junk.
Vista Ultimate will not remain stable if you load and use a substantial amount of software on your computer. Yet both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of XP Pro are relatively stable. I am a business man and I can tell you that vista is unreliable and a total waste of money. In fact microsoft should pay anyone to use this piece of rubbish and the amount of time wasted attempting to trace down problems.....
I thought I would download the new Ubuntu 8.04 and give it a try because all the Ubuntu nut jobs were saying how cool Ubuntu is with their new release. I installed Ubuntu on my machine. I tried Open Office Spreadsheet. I thought I would try to enter a Macro then run it. I then had to install Java to be able to run a macro. If I didn't know that I needed to use Synaptic to figure out how to get the Java update, I would be screwed along with many others who try this crap. Just FYI
OK, so Java installs. BFD. It works but it isn't that good. Now, lets play some music. I navigated to bobrivers.com to play a tune. I was prompted to install some more updates. Fine. Did that. The install went OK. Then I had to install a couple more updates. That went fine. Now I clicked on the song to play and the page just froze.
No wonder why Ubuntu is such a piece of crap. Can't play a simple tune from a web page. Now in Vista, I could navigate right to the page, play the song and I would be as happy as a clam in a whorehouse.
Gateway sent me 3 disks... 2 are recovery. what is the 3rd one for? (should I ever need to run startup repair, which disk will I use (#1) rather than reinstall the entire OS.

I am trying to burn DVD disks on my laptop, and when i insert a disk it says i don't have a disk in the drive and i should input one. I tried several DVD disks, including a rewritable one. I looked at a similar Toshiba laptop, and it does write DVD disks.
I don't know how long i've had this prob since, i use this option very rarely. Is there a way to fix the DVD drive without replacing it? and keeping reinstalling windows as last option ? (I'm not sure reinstalling will help). The drive does read DVD disks that have something on them. The drive does burn CD type disks

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Vista Ultimate 64 Bit (on my 500 GB Seagate hard disk, the main hard disk). Then, I added 2 more hard disks (a 1 TB Hitachi and another 500 GB Seagate), so now I have 3 SATA hard disks installed. However, Vista cannot start. Sometimes, it stuck on the boot screen (the one with the scrolling green bar), sometimes it just show black blank screen. I then tried to disconnect, completely, the 2 hard disks I just installed. Vista can boot properly, I can access my data from both hard disks without problem.
When only the 1 TB Hitachi and the main hard disk are connected, Vista can boot properly and I can access my data from both hard disks without problem. When only the other 500 GB Seagate and the main hard disk are connected, Vista can boot properly, I can access my data from both hard disks without problem. However, if I connect the 3 hard disks at the same time, vista doesn't want to boot. I already installed the SATA controller driver from the CD that comes with the motherboard.
My system spec:
- Motherboard: Asus Striker Extreme
- Processor: Intel Core2Duo Dual Core 2.4 Ghz
- RAM: 4 GB (4x1 GB) DDR2
- Graphic Card: Nvidia 8800GTS, from ASUS
- 2 DVD Writers (LG and Sony), both IDE
- 1 Floppy Disk Drive
Recently I bought a new computer that has Works 9 on it. I got no installation disks with it. If my machine crashes I would have no way to install it again. Is there a way I can make installation disks for myself?
