View 9 RepliesIve been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
yesterday i created a new vista dvd with vLite, because my windows folder was too big. after that i tried to do a "repair/upgrade install", like explained in this tutorial - Repair Install For Vista
as it turned out, it went completly wrong. i reinstalled vista on C: and the old version was moved to the folder Windows.old. obviously not that, what i want to accomplish. so now im online with a new user account - "lost" the user settings from my old user account, the programs are not "installed" anymore.
here is a small comparison of my situation:
- on C: i got now a new fresh windows and the old version in the folder in Windows.old
- Windows.old contains:
-- my old user settings
-- my old programms installed on C: (not a big deal, because i installed almost all programms on E: ---> other problem, see below)
-- the old windows folder himself
- as mentioned above i installed almost all programms on E: - obviously they are still there, but they are not "installed" anymore
so here are my key questions:
1. is there an easy was to transfer my old user settings to the new one?
2. is there an easy was to "install" all the programms on E:, without reinstall all per hand? eg. about registry import or something like that...
i hope it is clear, what my problems are - english is not my native language...
is there a complete correct way to install vista /windows 7 64bit and keep all of 32bit installed programs and files in there orginal place? Its taken more than a year to get all of the settings and programs to this condition and i now need to upgrade to 64bit so that i can use all of that extra RAM.! any ideas on the way ahead would be most
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been trying for a week unsuccessfully to remove programs from my computer. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS. Each time I try to uninstall a program it tells me that the system administrator has set policies to prevent this. Now I am the only one using this computer and I check and it shows that I am the administrator and there are no other accounts on this computer. Is there anyway to do this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIn Windows Vista, are programs all tied in with each other as they are in XP? What I really mean is this: If I were to go to Vista, can I remove associated programs such as Outlook Express, Internet Explorer and/or other programs which just occupy space on my computer, but which I never use?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI need to uninstall an annoying software. I can't seem to do it with vista. With XP, I could just go to the control panel and than add/remove programs. But with Vista, the closest thing I can see on there is Add hardware.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI want to remove some programs from the autoplay menu but don't want to uninstall, for example Nero but just remove Nero's photoscap viewer from the menu when I insert an SD card to upload images. I'd rather Nikon's ViewNX were on the menu but it isn't. Any ideas how to get it there? Windows Vista help only tells me how to change autoplay defaults, not how to list or unlist on the autofault menu.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a Dell Inspiron 1501 with Vista on it. It has the typical performance problems that have been noted for laptops running Vista. It receives a "Windows Experience Index" of 2.0. The first thing you are told to do to improve performance is eliminate programs from startup. But when I go through the long list of programs, I often can't tell what they do. For instance, I see in this list "Avantquest
Digital Line Detection," "Dell Quick Set," "Synaptics Pointing Device," and "Java (TM) Platform SE 6U5," among many others. Do I just start experimenting and see what happens when I turn them off? That seems very risky. After all, that "pointing device"--that's my touchpad, isn't it? If I turned off my touchpad, I think my computer would be useless to me, because I do not know how to turn the touchpad on again without the touchpad. In short:is there a way to know which programs would be the best ones to turn off? In case it is not already obvious, I do not know a lot about computers. My experience with Vista has been frustrating, because I feel like I do not have the specialized technical training required to make my laptop work well.
I have a dell laptop, upgraded from XP to Vista Ultimate with SP1. All programs installed prior to upgrade have lost the ability to be uninstalled. In the add/remove programs list - when clicking on a program I want to remove the uninstall button is missing...on a newer program it will reappear? I have many programs I would like to uninstall but no option to do so. I have read every post I could find without any luck.

In my Programs and Features are a list of everything I use. My question is I have 3 MS Visual C++ 2005(2 redist. and 1 ATL updates) and 3 MS Visual C++2008( 2redist. and 1 ATL updates) so I am wondering can I delete/remove the 2005 files/programs and not mess my system up. I am doing my annual housecleaning and noticed these C++'s but afraid to remove without getting the go ahead from VF tech's.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have experienced two instances were Add/Remove in Vista does not remove all the software, so that comprehensive installation of similar software is not possible. The first concerned a Scanner, where Add/Remove would not remove all the software, so that installation of the new Scanner is not possible, until a procedure recommended by the Scanner's makers involving modifications to the Registry is carried out, which I could not possibly do myself, so it means hiring a Professional to do the job!
The second concerns Spellex. Here again the old version has not been removed, so that installation of the latest version is not fully carried out, making the software useless. How can Microsoft produce Windows where such problems occur? What is the experience of others in case this is a fault with my computer?
I have vast numbers of emails in Outlook on my old pc which I need to access. I don't seem to be able to move them into Windows Mail. I also used to run Google Desktop which showed recent emails in the sidebar as they arrived. This doesn't seem to work any more (only shows my gmail account). Can I reload Outlook onto the new Vista machine and move my emails? How?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am the only user on my laptop. I accepted the Toshiba settings when I bought the machine, but I realise that there are a number of features that are disabled that (as an administrator) I should be able to use. for example:
1. Windows Defender will show me the details of start-up programs but not allow me to remove/enable/disable anything (the buttons are greyed-out/disabled).
2. There are some folders (e.g. in my internet favourites) which are read-only and when I switch read-only off, it ignores what I've done - they remain read-only.
I have a PC running Vista Business. It will not successful run a repair, I do not find an option (when I boot from the cd) to wipe it out and reload the OS.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy OS is Windows Vista Business and I am attempting to disable the auto startup of a program. I located the program in Windows Defender, Category: Startup Programs but all options to "Remove, Disable and Enable" are grayed out. I also noticed the majority though not all auto startup programs in the Startup Category are grayed out. Why is this? What other course of action may I take to disable the unneeded auto startup of unnecessary programs? Also, my inquiry pertains specifically to an HP Digital Camera software.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm sorry if this seems a little silly, but I cannot find a setup file (or any files, for that matter) for one of my programs. I just installed Vista home premium (sp2, 32bit), and was glad to see MSVC 2005 listed in my programs list. I did a little programming in PYTHON for a college courese, and want to learn c/c++. Anyway, when I search for the program on my harddrive, I get no results. No setup file, no logs, no nothing. All I have is the program on my Uninstall Programs list.
Do i actually have the program, or is Vista just messing around with me?
I m not sure if this is the area to be posting but im sure Ill find out. Im new to vista (about 6 weeks), and frankly im not impressed in the slightest. I just dont seem to be able to install any programs on my computer. Ive read plenty of posts, both general and program specific but nothing wants to work. I cant even install windows live. Im signed in as administrator, tried running in compatability mode, to no avail. Am I missing some basic security setting?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Vista anytime upgrade cd but I am downgrading to 32 bit. Using this guide will it keep me from getting the error that I need to install the "nvidia serial ata controller driver" I also have a copy of Vista that was used by us techs at the now defunct Circuit City that is an enterprise edition. Is it true I need to remove some of the RAM to complete the install? or is this trial and error? If I chose to do a dual boot of 32 and 64 bit (if possible) would I still need to uninstall the RAM The reason for my wishing to to downgrade to 32 bit is I am a web designer and none of my software (dreamweaver, CS4 suite, cuteFTP) will run on 64 bit.

About every second install is success, but I can't install some programs/games at all no matter how many times I try. When I start setup InstallShield Wizard comes up, but after it's done happens nothing last thing what InstallShield does is "Preparing to Install.", but it doesn't finish just shutsdown. Games what I have tried to install are Call of Juarez and Age of Empires III. I have found many players using vista with these games and found player who go aoe3 working with exactly same windows he had other problem). I made up that the problem is only with games/programs what are not made for vista, but should still work with patch or something after install...

View 9 Replies View Relatedi just bought vista x64, home premium sp1, and it's been nothign but hassle. i have been working with / repairing xp systems for 6 years now, there is not much that gets me on xp systems... vista however is different. i setup the system about 2 weeks ago, with new parts. the video card was backordered, so i used a 7600gt i had laying around instead. everything installed fine. i hadn't really used it, so yesterday when i recieved the other card, i thought i knew what to do. the new card is an ati hd2600, so i uninstalled the drivers for nvidia, changed out the cards, and it would freeze as soon as i could see the desktop everytime windows started. so i reformated. easy, as i had nothing on the system anyways. installed the ati card, worked fine. all the drivers back in, worked fine. now i am trying to install some programs, freezes everytime. one is nero 8, one is powerpoint viewer 2007. is there anything that works properly with x64? what benefits does x64 have? i haven't seen ANY yet.
