I have vast numbers of emails in Outlook on my old pc which I need to access. I don't seem to be able to move them into Windows Mail. I also used to run Google Desktop which showed recent emails in the sidebar as they arrived. This doesn't seem to work any more (only shows my gmail account). Can I reload Outlook onto the new Vista machine and move my emails? How?
View 6 RepliesBack in the 60s the saying about Ma Bell was "We don't care - we don't have to." The feedback on these threads makes me think that it's time to resurrect that saying. Microsoft is not the 2nd party - Norton and McAfee are the 2nd parties - we buy their software. Microsoft is the 3rd party that installs their oh-so software on our computers and then expects us to uninstall or disable the functions of the 2d party software in order for their 3rd party software to work. Truly Ma Bell thinking on Microsoft's part.
So I give up - I'll not be using Windows Mail. The question now is whether I continue to have two computers running - my old laptop that has Outlook Express that has NEVER been a problem. Or can I move Outlook Express over to the new Vista computer? (The problem I'm dealing with is not a new one, rather it's one that has been kicking around here on the various discussion sites since last spring - that is that the antivirus programs seem to render WM useless, i.e., no mail in or out and no access to the messages in the folders with some lame excuse about the lack of memory etc. Yet here we are into Feb 2008 and Windows Mail and it's advisors are still saying dump the 2nd party software.)
my emails would get marked as read or automatically move to the deleted folder when deleted. Instead, they remain BOLD black until I exit the inbox THEN return. At that point, the messages are either marked as read or have been deleted. It is weird nothing was changed by me! The box "Mark as read" is set to 0 seconds and that never changed. It's annoying to have to click on EVERY message in order to get it read and then delete what I want, move to the next message, delete it, etc.......exit the folder, then return to it for the messages to be corrected.

I did burn a XP and try it on one of my PC but that one still run like . SO is there a way of getting one with out paying all that for what I all ready have I'm on the vist now. I do not like to have to reload it all but do's it really put thing back that are not working right.

None of them will complete without errors and I can't send or receive emails in outlook. I realize I have to have correct user and passwords and those I have. There are different incoming and outgoing directions for all three.

I have used aapt as my Service Provider for a few months. I was using Outlook to send and receive mails. Everything was working as expected. Then one day outlook stopped sending emails but it could receive emails. I contacted aapt and they told me they didn't support outlook only express and there was nothing they could do. So I changed from outlook to Windows mail. I completed the set up which was identical to outlook and again I received the same problem and error message.....
Among the many difficulties I have experienced with Vista, a new affliction has recently occurred. I use Windows Mail, Vista's version of Outlook Express. When I open emails, and minimise Windows Mail or exit altogether, on my return all the opened emails have gone. They are not in the Deleted folder. They have just vanished.

My internet access is fine either wireless or hard wired directly to the router and my old XP PC works fine on the same connection. I have tried disabling the windows firewall and router firewall and also the anti virus, i have tried installing a different anti virus (avg) but all to no avail. Operating system is vista home premium 64 bit. Windows update is up to date.

I can import the email messages just fine, but not my 15 email accounts. I have created a folder and stored this onto the windows vista machine, named: Outlook Express Email Accounts.
When I go to: Tools => Accounts => Import. A box appears that says "Import Internet Account". I select one of the Outlook Express 6's *.iaf files and I constantly get this error: "The import did not complete because an error occurred." What's causing this and how do I fix this frustrating problem.

I have added Windows mail as an accepted program in Windows Firewall. I have unistalled Norton Virus. Ive removed the account twice and readded it. I have contacted support for Outlook, They say my anti virus program may need to be set up to accept Windows mail but I think Ive done that now by changing the Firewall. I read on here that maybe I should switch to a Windows live account but email address is a buisness account so can i just switch servers?
My email provider is Sky although I have chosen to use Outlook express for years. I have just bought a new laptop and have set up my windows mail account copying the settings from my Outlook account. However, not all emails seem to be coming through to my laptop, when I check my mail through Outlook there are maybe 5 new ones there but only one of those shows in my Windows mail. Then to add to the confusion if I try to access my emails through my Sky account there are some showing there that have not come through to Outlook or Windows.

I had my work email (Exchange Server) configured within my outlook and it worked fine until lastweek. It just stopped working and I thought I'll try and reset outlook and try and re-configure but then everything went really wrong.
I deleted all the Pst and ost files, deleted the old profile and created a new one.I configured a new profile and configured the exchange server settings and tried to start outlook but now it only gives me an error saying .... "cannot open default email folder. you must connect to microsoft exchange with current profile before you can synchronize with your offline folder file".. (see the screenshots)................
