i can not get programs to install when they have been downloaded on the Internet. They progress as far as the 'Windows Installer" and then it just sits there and stalls out. I am trying to download and install both Itunes and Acrobat 8.0 Professional.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Version 3.01.1 of Firefox from Mozilla in order to replace Version 3.5, which was malfunctioning with graphics problems. However, I could not istall it as I was given the message that the downloaded file was from an Unknown Publisher and that there was no digital signature or that the signature was invalid. It asked me if I wanted to install anyway so I said yes. However it would not execute and said it would notify MSft of the problem.
I've tried downloading other files, Avast for example, and got the same message(s). I went to tools/internet options/Advanced/Security and checked "Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid" and unchecked "Check for sinatures on downloaded programs". This didn't work either.
Just installed my 3rd system onto Vista Ultimate x64. However, there is now a constant problem of when trying to execute downloaded programs (ie AVG, latest Directx) the application just crashes out in an AppCrash error. I have tried the UAC and permissions and SAFE MODE but nothing. I have read through varius Techs by MS but to no avail and have even done clean re-installs but still the same problem. I have read somewhere that Vista likes different files to be ordered, is ht correct and would anybody have an idea of what is happening?

A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
It has done this with every file I've downloaded and tried to install. Also,some MSI files I've downloaded (turbotax update, etc.) do nothing after I try to run them. I've verified that the software is compatible with Vista (per the places I've downloaded them from), turned off UAC, disabled Windows Firewall and Defender, Run as Admin, and even tried in Safe Mode. Also, I've run Windows Update and it says there are no available updates.

SP1 has been nothing but trouble for me, never been able to install it, done all the suggested fixes from microsoft. Downloaded the standalone install exe and still no luck. It's been doing my head in, Is there any deffinate reasons that hsould make mem want to upgrade because my computer is far from disfunctional as it is but I would like it to be upgraded.

I am the Administrator and I have no other users. All the files downloaded go to the Local temp file since I don't have permission.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have had the common problem on not being able to install KB938371 update which is one of the 3 prerequisites to downloading through Microsoft Update the SP1. I have tried all the tricks and suggestion published throughout the web except an in place reinstall of Vista Business. This is highly undesireable since my sony laptop will only reinstall Vista Business as per original with all the software originally shipped which is a pain to remove.
If I download the entire sp1 750mb file, will it install without the prerequsite files? I have read that the prerequisites were actually a compilation of sp1 files and not an actual update to Vista. This being the case, it seems that if the sp1 file were downloaded it would work.
I downloaded Mozilla Firefox Internet Browser a short while ago and it was working fine. But then my Vista automatically updated and I think that was where the problem started. I think in the update it heightened the security on my computer, not necessarily a bad thing but annoying because every time I launch Firefox it has to ask my permission to continue.
I think this is because it is trying to access the internet and is not microsoft software. I have looked it up in windows help and have a slight suspicion that it might be to do with something called "user account control". It helps stop unauthorized changes to your computer. Is there any way to convince it that Firefox isn't harmful and make an exception for it?

I'm currently using a cable modem setup in a home office situation. There are a lot of times where the throughput slows considerably and I've often wondered if one of these tweak programs would be helpful.I decided to experiment a little with Tweak VI, but honestly couldn't tell whether or not it was helping. View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm sorry if this seems a little silly, but I cannot find a setup file (or any files, for that matter) for one of my programs. I just installed Vista home premium (sp2, 32bit), and was glad to see MSVC 2005 listed in my programs list. I did a little programming in PYTHON for a college courese, and want to learn c/c++. Anyway, when I search for the program on my harddrive, I get no results. No setup file, no logs, no nothing. All I have is the program on my Uninstall Programs list.
Do i actually have the program, or is Vista just messing around with me?

1) I had to go on a chat line to actually get Mozilla Firefox installed.

I have run an antispyware...I was clean. I do not know what else to do. I am so frustrated it irks me to think a brand new computer would have all these gliches already!
About every second install is success, but I can't install some programs/games at all no matter how many times I try. When I start setup InstallShield Wizard comes up, but after it's done happens nothing last thing what InstallShield does is "Preparing to Install.", but it doesn't finish just shutsdown. Games what I have tried to install are Call of Juarez and Age of Empires III. I have found many players using vista with these games and found player who go aoe3 working with exactly same windows he had other problem). I made up that the problem is only with games/programs what are not made for vista, but should still work with patch or something after install...

View 9 Replies View Relatedi just bought vista x64, home premium sp1, and it's been nothign but hassle. i have been working with / repairing xp systems for 6 years now, there is not much that gets me on xp systems... vista however is different. i setup the system about 2 weeks ago, with new parts. the video card was backordered, so i used a 7600gt i had laying around instead. everything installed fine. i hadn't really used it, so yesterday when i recieved the other card, i thought i knew what to do. the new card is an ati hd2600, so i uninstalled the drivers for nvidia, changed out the cards, and it would freeze as soon as i could see the desktop everytime windows started. so i reformated. easy, as i had nothing on the system anyways. installed the ati card, worked fine. all the drivers back in, worked fine. now i am trying to install some programs, freezes everytime. one is nero 8, one is powerpoint viewer 2007. is there anything that works properly with x64? what benefits does x64 have? i haven't seen ANY yet.

I did so, but then realised I'd lost my internet (it had been working up until then). A 'Diagnose and Repair' found that "The network adapter 'Nvidia nForce Networking Controller' is experiencing driver or hardware related issues." As I said, the internet had been working up until then. I haven't installed any Windows updates (it's set to alert me of new ones). I have had this problem before: I installed Vista, internet worked, rebooted after installing various programs, internet didn't work. Left it overnight & tried again next day, internet worked. Sometime later after reboot, internet didn't work. I then tried to install the Nvidia chipset driver again, but it froze part way through the install. This is when I wiped the entire hard drive and started again, but the problem is back.

I'd stuck with my Pentium4 on XP Pro. Well, actually did not have much choice as the old beast died a death. Mobo trashed! I got the message from M$ that HotMail would no longer be supported on Outlook, and have been trying to install Live Mail. I keep getting the error "Sorry, we couldn't install these programs". How helpful is THAT! I finally tracked down a standalone install kit for WLM and now have messenger installed and (eventually) working.
I've never dual-booted a system before and I'm interested in dual-booting my Vista with XP. I know they have to be on separate drives (though I'm under the impression that a partition is good enough... is that true?) but my question is: do I need to install separate instances of all of my programs (e.g. Steam, Office, Firefox, etc.) or can I just point XP to their locations and everything will work fine?
View 6 Replies View Relatedyesterday i created a new vista dvd with vLite, because my windows folder was too big. after that i tried to do a "repair/upgrade install", like explained in this tutorial - Repair Install For Vista
as it turned out, it went completly wrong. i reinstalled vista on C: and the old version was moved to the folder Windows.old. obviously not that, what i want to accomplish. so now im online with a new user account - "lost" the user settings from my old user account, the programs are not "installed" anymore.
here is a small comparison of my situation:
- on C: i got now a new fresh windows and the old version in the folder in Windows.old
- Windows.old contains:
-- my old user settings
-- my old programms installed on C: (not a big deal, because i installed almost all programms on E: ---> other problem, see below)
-- the old windows folder himself
- as mentioned above i installed almost all programms on E: - obviously they are still there, but they are not "installed" anymore
so here are my key questions:
1. is there an easy was to transfer my old user settings to the new one?
2. is there an easy was to "install" all the programms on E:, without reinstall all per hand? eg. about registry import or something like that...
i hope it is clear, what my problems are - english is not my native language...
is there a complete correct way to install vista /windows 7 64bit and keep all of 32bit installed programs and files in there orginal place? Its taken more than a year to get all of the settings and programs to this condition and i now need to upgrade to 64bit so that i can use all of that extra RAM.! any ideas on the way ahead would be most
