I can not install programs of any kind as the windows installer window comes up but then stalls. How do I find out the version of the windows installer on vista & should I reinstall it?
View 4 RepliesI am running Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop. For last few days I have not been able to install windows updates. I get the error with code 80070641. After wandering through different forums and suggested solutions, I followed this path - control panel > system and maintenance > administrative tools > services > windows installer (double clicked and saw that the start-up type is 'Automatic'). When I clicked on the 'Start the service' button in the left panel here, I got the following message:
Windows could not start the windows installer service on local computer. Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified. Can anybody help me resolve this problem and bring the Windows Installer back on track?.....
I'm out of options. I just bought a new iPhone. Synced it with the upgraded version of iTunes on my work computer. Then tried to sync on my computer, but was unable to. Apparently, I need to upgrade iTunes to 8.2. So, when I try to do that it won't install. So I downloaded the Windows Installer 4.5. Now it tells me that I do not have enough memory to complete this process.
I've read many of threads and googled it. I even went in and changed the IRPStackSize. Every time I did that, instead of changing to a decimal number it would revert back to the default. BTW, I have Vista 64-bit.
I have uninstalled everything related to Adobe CS4 but still, there are two folders that cannot be deleted. One from C:ProgramDataAdobe (where ProgramData is hidden) and on C:Program FilesCommon FilesAdobe. The problem is, at startup, when I right-click on any file, folder or the like, Windows Installer keeps on opening to install Adobe Acrobat 9. I still have the Adobe Drive CS4 on the context menu even it is already uninstalled together with Adobe AIR. I tried everything I saw on this forum. But still, NONE worked. It (the files) won't allow me to change the permission settings given that I am the ONLY user.

I'd stuck with my Pentium4 on XP Pro. Well, actually did not have much choice as the old beast died a death. Mobo trashed! I got the message from M$ that HotMail would no longer be supported on Outlook, and have been trying to install Live Mail. I keep getting the error "Sorry, we couldn't install these programs". How helpful is THAT! I finally tracked down a standalone install kit for WLM and now have messenger installed and (eventually) working.
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 with 4gb of Ram and 200 GB of free space. I have installed Vista Business 64, and added recommended patches. It also has Office 2007. I am trynig to install SQL server 2008 express. A prereq for this is the 4.5 installer. Whenever I run the install I get two messages: Setup Error, Not enough storage is available to process this command. Then "Installation did not complete" In the application log the Event ID is 4373. I have space, ram, I am logged in as an administrator, and it is a clean build.

However programs i already had on my hdd install fine. I have not yet had time to test a 64 bit native app to see if it installs fine, but all the programs i try and fail to run once downloaded are on the compatibility list.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm sorry if this seems a little silly, but I cannot find a setup file (or any files, for that matter) for one of my programs. I just installed Vista home premium (sp2, 32bit), and was glad to see MSVC 2005 listed in my programs list. I did a little programming in PYTHON for a college courese, and want to learn c/c++. Anyway, when I search for the program on my harddrive, I get no results. No setup file, no logs, no nothing. All I have is the program on my Uninstall Programs list.
Do i actually have the program, or is Vista just messing around with me?
I m not sure if this is the area to be posting but im sure Ill find out. Im new to vista (about 6 weeks), and frankly im not impressed in the slightest. I just dont seem to be able to install any programs on my computer. Ive read plenty of posts, both general and program specific but nothing wants to work. I cant even install windows live. Im signed in as administrator, tried running in compatability mode, to no avail. Am I missing some basic security setting?

In trying to install Java 6 u18 I started getting the message. THIS ACTION ONLY VALID FOR PRODUCTS CURRENTLY INSTALLED At that point Java, which had always worked, stopped working. After reading this forum I downloaded the Windows Install Cleanup and removed the Java 6 u18 from the list of installed products.

My PC runs Vista Home Premium and has not caused me many problems since I sorted out the installation issues. However since I installed Roxio Creator 2009 a month or so ago I have had lots of problems. I am now troubled by a Windows Installer problem. When I start up I get a series of messages flagging up starting with "preparing to install" followed by "please wait whilst windows configures the destination" then by "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternative path to a path containing the installation package'status m s i' in the box below" the box below contains a file name as follows "c:user ALANSM~1AppDatalocal emp7zs9ED" This series of messages keeps repeating for 5 or more times every time I cancel it. I thought it may have been caused by Roxio so I tried to uninstall. Roxio would not uninstall however. The wizard starts but then I get a message saying "setup encountered an error during installation 'Error Code 04C7" then the wizard shuts down leaving Roxio intact.

1) I had to go on a chat line to actually get Mozilla Firefox installed.
2) This machine will download things, but will never install. I have tried to install things like ITunes, KodakEasyShare.....no go
3) Have noticed that the Windows Update will not install the update for 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1. FAILS every time!

I have run an antispyware...I was clean. I do not know what else to do. I am so frustrated it irks me to think a brand new computer would have all these gliches already!
About every second install is success, but I can't install some programs/games at all no matter how many times I try. When I start setup InstallShield Wizard comes up, but after it's done happens nothing last thing what InstallShield does is "Preparing to Install.", but it doesn't finish just shutsdown. Games what I have tried to install are Call of Juarez and Age of Empires III. I have found many players using vista with these games and found player who go aoe3 working with exactly same windows he had other problem). I made up that the problem is only with games/programs what are not made for vista, but should still work with patch or something after install...

I have con into Microsoft support and tried to download a Stand Alone Installer-didn't work because I don't have Windows Installer. I would like to just start all over and take of my programs and re-load but I don't have a hard copy disk for Vista Home Premium. It was installed when I purchased the computer. This above has not worked for me. I have a 64bit vista under parameters they have dword which is for 32bit and qword for 64bit I chose qword but i was not able to type in IRPStactSize so I'm stuck. I just bought a pc to tv software and the requirements to watch it is that I have to have the latest media player 11 which I already have and the latest real player which I already have and .NET framework 2.0 which I already have and you have to have windows installer 3.1 which I do not have. This is the only thing preventing me from watching my pc to tv software. So can somebody help me download this windows installer 3.1 onto my 64bit machine.
Every time I login to my account, windows installer pops up and then this error pops up.

I've read countless messages talking about solutions and tried them all. UNTIL I noticed today that the Windows Module Installer isn't listed in my services! I remember that annoying TrustedInstaller.exe running on my comp since I installed Vista, but it's gone, didn't noticed till today.

When trying to access my bank accounts via Quicken 2007 I receive the messages "the windows installer service could not be accessed......... Windows installer is not correctly installed."
