Upgrade Vista Home Basic To Vista Ultimate

Jun 30, 2008

CANNOT SIMPLY UPGRADE WITHIN VISTA??? FIRST TIME ISSUE EVER POSTED! I have a question that I cannot make sense of. I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 installed on my computer. I have a copy of a legit retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade SP1 DVD-ROM. I want to upgrade my current Vista Home Basic to Vista Ultimate. Sounds simple enough. I have read everywhere on the web and it can upgrade easily as long as you upgrade within Windows Vista and not a reboot installation. Okay, but when I get to a point in the Vista grade process, I CANNOT! During the installation process, when I get to the screen that states, "Which type of installation do you want?" AFTER INPUTTING THE VISTA ULTIMATE KEY CODE ON A PREVIOUS SCREEN, the option should be "Upgrade" ONLY and NOT "Custom (Advanced)" since the key code is set for upgrade option only. I GET THE TOTAL OPPOSITE!!! I only get the option "Custom (Advanced)" and the "Upgrade" option is grayed out. WHAT??? NO "Upgrade" option??? I SHOULD BE GETTING THE "Upgrade" OPTION!!! This does not make any sense!!! It states at the reason at the bottom of this screen, "Upgrade has been disabled. - The upgrade option cannot be started, to upgrade, cancel the installation and then choose to upgrade to a version of Windows that is more recent than the version you are currently running." This does not make any sense, does it??? I should be able to only upgrade since I only have an upgrade disc. I am upgrading from a lower edition of Vista to a higher edition of Vista, therefore I should ALSO have this feature to upgrade enabled too when it knows my CD key is a higher ("upgrade") edition. I have spent several hours searching and read around the web and cannot find my same or similar case scenario. A first time! People who have upgraded between different editions of Vista with either the Windows Anytime Upgrade retail package or (mine) the Windows Vista Ultimate Retail Upgrade box (includes the Windows Anytime Upgrade anyways on it) say it is a breeze! What is going on with me??? I should not be having any problems what-so-ever!

Activation: "The Windows Vista Home Premium Product Key You Typed Is Invalid For Activation"

Mar 26, 2008

My laptop came with Vista Home Premium installed. I downloaded a Flash-BIOS update as per advice of my HP Care Centre. After it was done installing my laptop shut off (as I was told it would do). When I turned it back on, I was prompted to enter a Product Activation Key. I entered the Windows Product Key as shown on the sticker on the base of the laptop. The message I received was "The Windows Vista Home Premium product key you typed is invalid for activation" For the record, YES, I am entering the code in properly.

Vista - 1 Basic And 2 Home Premium Not Stay Sleeping

Mar 7, 2009

Our family has 3 laptops running Vista - 1 basic and 2 home premium. One of the home premiums will not stay sleeping. Sometimes I have to make it sleep twice or even 3 times before it will appear to stay sleeping. But the next morning it is no longer sleeping. I have to unplug the Ethernet cable to be assured that it is not doing anything on the web. How can I correct this problem?

Drivers For IPX To Work On Vista, Didn't Work

Jul 1, 2008

I have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00...

So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is).

Install Vista Ultimate 64 (w/SP1) With 4GB. Didn't Work

May 24, 2008

I attempted to install Vista Ultimate 64 (w/SP1) with 4GB. Didn't work - BSOD. I took 1 stick out so now I had 2GB. After about 5 reboots, I finally got Vista to install. However, as soon as I'd install the latest gfx driver (175.16-Vista64) it would crash. I spent hours on the phone with Microsoft - they couldn't solve it. Called EVGA, they said they hadn't heard of any problems with the latest driver. I installed an older driver (169.25) and got it work. I never got the system stable, and I don't think it's the gfx card.

I tried installing Gears of War, which seemed to install just fine, however, if I started to do something else (I tried this twice) it would give me a BSOD. Then, I tried installing it and nothing else. It crashed on it's own giving me a BSOD. Another time I was just looking around the features in Control Panel and it crashed. Bottom line - it was never very stable.

I decided to format my drive and start fresh. This time, I could get the Vista disc to load and install, but it would crash at various places during install (sometimes after "Installing Features," but most of the time just before it would finish - so about 30-45 minutes into the installation). The errors I have received are the following (but not limited to, ):........

Right To Upgrade To Vista Premium 64 Bit?

Jan 10, 2008

I am about to upgrade to Vista premium 64 bit. I am currently running XP pro. My processor is a Pentium 4 660 (64 bit. Am i right in believing that at the moment, everything will be running at 32 bit, due to xp only being 32 bits?? (I have not got the 64 bit version). Does this include say Flight Sim X which has been designed for 64 bit?The reason i think this, is because xp is running at 32 bit, that will mean that everthing that is running on the system will also run at 32 bit whether it can run at 64 bit or not.

Upgrade RAM To 4GB Vista 32-bit Won't Work

Feb 13, 2008

I've done a lot of searching tonight so I know I'm not the first one to have this issue, but I haven't found any kind of satisfactory solution. Here is my situation: I have an HP Pavilion 6716 laptop with Quanta 30CC 79.26 mother board with a bus clock of 533 Mhz. I currently have two DDR2 PC2-5300 1 GB sticks of RAM in the machine (from factory) and all is well. I confirmed with HP that my machine can handle 4GB so I got two DDR2 667 2GB sticks of RAM (Kingston). If I put either one of the new sticks of RAM in I have no problems (first or second slot, makes no difference). But if i put both in I get the BSOD and first a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error, then a reboot and then a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error and that's all she wrote. Put back the original RAM and all is well. I've read all about the MS KB929777 and I've uninstalled the patch then re-installed and it made no difference. Is there anything anyone can tell me or am I just shafted at 2GB RAM?

Couldn't Upgrade Windows Vista Home Premium, Couldn't Connect To The Internet

May 5, 2009

I had windows XP pro and i bought windows vista home premium upgrade, when i went to install it it said that i couldn't upgrade it. So i followed directions on how to do a custom clean install, where you install vista without typing in the product key and without getting updates then you pick what OS you have and do the custom installation, then you install again (2nd time) and choose upgrade instead of custom and go through the process again.

The problem is after installing it the first time, I couldn't connect to the internet, so I couldn't install it a second time. I have an ASUS PQ5 PRo motherboard and when i start up there is this thing called express gate, in express gate I can use the internet but not when i enter Vista. When I put in the PQ5 Pro DVD vista says it can't open it. Also my XP PRO may have been 64bit, and now I am on Vista32 bit and the disck wont work.

I think the internet is a driver problem, if i go to the asus website on a diff computer and get the ASUS drivers put them on a USB and then open them on vista should this work? WHat drivers do I need? Just the LAN one? Also if the Asus DVD wouldnt start up will that mean that I wont be able to open the drivers on the flash drive too?

I bought a upgrade version (Vista Home Premium) yesterday and did a clean install (backup'd files I still needed). Everything is working fine accept for the fact that i can't activate Vista. When i enter my product key it says that this version is meant for upgrade and not for a new install. I found that a bitt odd because I had to clean install. Anyway, now i'm trying to get a new license key and I keep getting this error: Error We are unable to process your order at this time. Please try again later. Error Code: 1067

Can't Use Basic Functions Of Vista

Apr 18, 2009

I went into the registry to remove a file that said I didn't have permission to edit (even though I was the admin) because the person whose help I asked for told me that was how to fix it. So I went into the registry and deleted the files in the registry (about 3 or 4 keys). But the files were still there. So I deleted the key that was show in the details section of the UAC. That didn't seem to do anything either. So I quit.

Now, once I restarted my computer, I can't use many of the basic functions of vista. I can't move, copy, cut, paste, or rename files. I also can't empty or restore the recycling bin. For example, I can't rename a txt from the folder, but if I open it in notepad I can save I as something different. I remade the key from the UAC but going into the registry editor and making a new key and entering all of the information, but it didn't correct the problem. That key is {3AD05575-8857-4850-9277-11B85BDB8E09} by the way.

Didn't Viao's Copy Of Windows Vista

Aug 7, 2009

Vaio Laptop that was in desperate need of a wipe and reinstall. Unfortunately she didn't know where her Vaio's copy of Windows Vista Premium was. While I was at my campus bookstore, I asked them if they had a copy of just the media itself as I already had my sister's Vaio license. They sold me a copy of the Ultimate version for $20 or $40 dollars, I don't remember how much exactly. I knew that the Ultimate version had all the versions, including the Premium version my sister had a license for. I used Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to look up her license which I e-mailed to myself. I reinstalled Vista which installed as the Premium version, just as I expected. Five to six hours later I had everything set up. I thought everything was activated and working just fine. I was wrong.

And now a week later, my sister brings me her laptop and complains herbackground is gone. The operating system had reverted itself to its limited "Illegal State". Frustrated and not wanting to spend another five hours redoing it all, I tried using the license that came on the back of the CD that I got at my campus bookstore which Windows refused. It won't allow me to upgrade to Ultimate either. What is my best solution at this point? Will Microsoft support me in this? Can I get a disc replacement from Vaio? The last thing we want to do is have to buy another license. I don't know if if its okay to use the license that came on the back of my Ultimate disc either.
