Stepping Make A Difference At Stock 2.83ghz Speed ?
Jun 2, 2009
I want to buy a q9550, but the e0 stepping version is tougher to get hold of in the uk for a reasonable price. Does the e0 stepping make a difference At Stock 2.83ghz speed (ie run cooler) than the c1 stepping of the regular q9550.

I just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium, it came with: 1GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM, expandable to 4GB. I wanted more memory so I bought a 2GB kit PC2-*5300* DDR2 SDRAM, because it was on sale for $60. The 6400 speed would have cost me over $200. The salesman assured me it would work fine and I wouldn't notice any difference. I installed it when I got home and everything works great, no problems. But I still can't stop wondering if the difference in speed WOULD matter. Can anyone explain, or provide a link explaining, when, if ever, I would benefit from the faster memory. I mostly use my PC for surfing the web, email, and some photo editing.

I am looking to buy my niece a laptop for Christmas and I'm looking for some advice. She is only 13 and the only game she really plays at the moment is Sims2. Obviously I would like to buy the the best one I can, but I would like to ensure that for the future it could erhaps play a few better games as well as Sims2. I can imagine she will be using the laptop for her school work as well over the next few years. Any advice on which one to buy. I don't know much about PC'S but I was told that different graphic cards can make a bit of difference.

I'm wondering if it's ok to Delete any of the stock wallpapers that were included in Vista? I've found one of the folders which has a few that I have no use of, but still haven't located the other folder. I think there's at least 2, maybe? I'm thinking about downloading some new wallpapers and wanted to clear out some extra space. Also, when I get new wallpapers, can I add them directly to the Windows Wallpaper folder?

When ever I change any settings from stock to OC and reboot or cold start my computer starts for about 3-4 seconds then reboots and most of the time posts on up and runs normal. Every now and then it will reboot a 3rd time but then goes back to stock settings and continues posting. I never get a bsod (bios F2), all power saving options disabled in bios, PCI-E at 100, memory timings loose. Once it posts it runs perfectly. I tried all kinds of different memory timings, goosed the cpu vid to 1.3, raised mch by .1 and fsb volts by .1 in an effort to find out why this posting phenomenon occurs. No matter what I have tried, when I OC this posting regimen occurs. I play Supreme Commander Forged alliance alot and no issues the game just rocks with all the goodies at max and 60fps with fraps. Any smoking grey matter out there with a clue?

I have Vista x64 Ultimate and I'm having internet connection issues. My laptop is the HP Pavillion dv7. My ISP tells me everything is fine on his end. I have a router (Linksys model BEFW11S4) 2.4 Ghz - 802.11b. When I connect the wire from my modem directly to my laptop, I get internet speeds of 900 Kbps. But when I use the router, the speed goes down to 300 Kbps. Is there a setting in Vista that could be doing this? According to Linksys, I should be able to attain 900 Kbps with the router. The laptop comes with a wireless adapter (Intel Wi-Fi Link 5100AGN).

I have tried both and really can't tell the difference when up and running. I am using the 64 bit drivers for my devices and have NO 64 bit programs. My machine has an AMD64x2 4800 running 4 gig ram and a 500 gig drive. When I switched from Vista 32 bit to the 64 I thought I was going to see dramatic results but no... Have followed the tutorials to adjust as needed/wanted still not difference. So, unless doing some graphic intensive or mathematically intensive work utilizing a 64 bit program when will I and others ever see any advantage to keeping the 64 bit os?

I have 2 computers. One has Vista Home Premium and the other has Ultimate. Today, after being advised by Update that SP1 is available to me, I have downloaded and saved both versions from the Microsoft site; 32 and 64. BUT I really do not understand the difference between 32 and 64. To me it seems like Vista should be Vista, like XP was XP. which version of SP1 I need to put into my individual Vista installations of Home Premium and then Ultimate.

I'm looking to invest in some extra graphics power. Don't get me wrong...my 8800gt is great, but lacks some for cerain games.. The two choices I have decided on are selling my current 8800gt for $100 to a friend and using that money to go toward a gtx 260 OR putting another 8800gt in SLI with my current one. Also, how big of a difference is there between the gtx 280 and the 260 other than money and RAM?

I don't mean to sound like a total newb (which I am not, I am quite familliar with hacking my PSP and it's games and also my iPod so I know a little bit about computers) but I always wondered what the difference is between Windows Vista 32bit and Windows Vista 64bit. It would be nice to know but I don't entirely need t know.

I'm expecting that one is for 32bit Windows and the other is for 64, obviously. However I feel that I have Realplayer 32 bit running on my vista and it's the main download on the realplayer site anyways. I think it's 32 bit because when I was in msconfig in the run menu, under startups it had realplayer (32-bit) but how can that be, because I thought 32 bit won't work on 64 bit OP systems and vice versa. Plus is there really any difference between the two? Besides just compatibility.

Is there a big difference it the two? Would I really benefit with a switch to 64? What I have found out so far is that 64bit is better for graphics and video and not so much for applications. I just got my system in Feb of 2008, Vista 32bit, HP media center m8300f w/tv tuner, 3gigs ram, 640gigs hdd, 3.0ghtz AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ processor. I couldn't pass it up as it was a bundled deal w/monitor(HP) and a all-in-one printer(HP).

I'm looking to get a new OS w/new build. What is/are the difference's between upgrade, OEM and just English DVD? The prices are as follows; upgrade = $219, OEM = $199, English DVD = $319 and are from Tiger direct. This is for the Ultimate OS and some prices are reflecting sales and rebates. I understand the upgrade is overlaying new OS over the old OS but the other two confuse me. So with a new build what would be best?

I just find it strange that it would be such a difference. I hit the 'update my score' twice and still the same, even after a reboot. I'm thinking that this hole score thing is a bit of a crock!

If I add USB drive as Readyboost in vista pc with 2gb ram, will it show any visible difference in performance?? Also, Given to the fact that 32 bit vista cant use more than 3gb of ram, if I add 2gb of usb readyboost drive to a laptop/pc which already has 3gb of ram, will it work as if system had 5gb of ram?? If not, will it show any visible performance difference in general tasks, or gaming even though the system already has 3gb of ram to begin with??

I installed the following ram on my PC OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail.
I have also installed the NVIDIA system monitor.
My question:
Why does my computer recognize the RAM at 800mhz (this shows on boot up and in the Nvidia monotor) when my motherboard supports 1066 and the ram is also 1066.
I have a p7n diamond 780i motherboard from MSI.

I still see the spinning wheel and can't do a thing until it goes away. I double click and MP3 file spinning wheel until Winamp fires up, which used to take no time now I don't know what it's doing but takes longer and still can't do anything with a $800 computer until the wheel stops turning.

Ever since installing Vista I seem to have lost control of the mouse speed. Even changing it in Vista does not fix it. The double click is so fast, that 95% of the time is performs a double click when I did not want it to. This is SO damn annoying. It is an older Microsoft mouse with the light and wheel and buttons on the side for going back and forth in Explorer and on the Internet. I think it was called Intellipoint, or something like that. Anyhow, does anyone know if this is a bug?
