I continue to receive e-mail with empty boxes with a small red "x" in a another very small box in the upper left hand corner. I know there are supposed be pictures in this area, but cannot expose them no matter what I do.

All I get is a border with a little x in the top left hand corner.I havent changed anything. (unless the last auto windows update did).
Tools Option Read does not have "read in plain txt" ticked
TO Security does not have "block images" ticked
View "message in html" is greyed out virus check was done since the problem started.
I insert pictures, not attach them, in mails. When I look at the message the pictures are in the body of my e-mail, but when recipients open the mail there is a red cross in a white square instead of the picture and the picture is attached. There is a difference in the html code when I compare the one in the mail I send and the one from the received mail, Windows Mail "corrects" or "inserts" things in the code the moment I send it (that's what I can understand).

The icon is there and I can click on it but the picture representing that icon is missing. The weird thing is that if I change my colours to 16 Bit the icon's picture reappears. It does not single out any particular icon. Has anyone had this problem, if so, how do fix it?

Windows Mail just seems so slow and klugy by comparison--and the Calendar is also usable, but annoying. What do you all think? Outlook worth the investment for someone who is a heavy user with their own business?

View 4 Replies View RelatedVista SP1 install I had to reinstall (not restore) the entire system much to my regret. In the process I added a newsgroup account in Windows Mail and downloaded my regular newsgroups but could not find alt.binaries.food which I have been reading for quite some time (And in fact still reading it on a XP machine with OE so I know the group is alive and active).
After messing with it for over a day I chatted with EarthLink and other than to say its a "Vista problem" they provided no real help or direction. When I Google "missing alt.binaries.food and Vista" there are an amazing number of people with the same apparent problem description but no proposed or found solutions.
Then I added Thunderbird to the Vista system this afternoon and viola, alt.binaries.food is there alive and well. So it doesn't appear to be this computer but rather either something in Windows Mail or my setup. Does anyone have a clue? Or does this seem to point in some direction to the group?
Having had no mail problems previously, following the installation of 16 Windows Updates today I find that suddenly none of my Windows Mail messages contain any images (not even a red X). I've checked the security settings, but they haven't changed. The only Windows security product I'm using is Defender's Firewall, whle virus and spyware checking is from AVG (Free). I'm running on Vista Home Premium SP2 (32-bit).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently had strange pixilated images mixed in with our photos when playing music and selecting slide show, our photos appear along with random images, they are not coming from MY PICTURES folder as i have right clicked when the odd pic appears and they are coming from random folders that i can't find.
I thought the strange graphics were coming from itunes or Tom Tom so i have uninstalled them both...but the images keep coming. How do i stop media center looking and producing these annoying images
All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented. I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.
I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update?
I have numerous folders of pictures saved in my photo gallery. Today I have lost alot of them. I have looked everywhere I can think of.

Make sure you spelled it correctly and try again. Why is this happening all of a sudden? I can save the attachements and then open them on my desktop but it's a pain in the ass.
View 9 Replies View RelatedNew Dell computer running that crappy Windows Vista system. After editing any JPEG in Windows Photo Gallery, I get a pop up that "changes to this picture cannot be saved because Photo Gallery has experienced a problem".
These are regular JPEG's that are on my desktop. They are not locked or funny file names, or any of the other obvious problems. Anybody out there able to help a cpu novice on this one? My wife is ready to throw this brand new computer away because of the problems running anything on Vista.BTW,pretty ironic, it is trying to block me out of this site, that it recommends .I go to with problems.
When I insert my SD card a message pops up saying can't open pictures. The file format is not supported or you do not have latest update. I checked and it says I have the latest update. Don't know what to do

View 5 Replies View RelatedContact has a Vista business laptop that until recently when you went into Windows Explorer to look at pictures you can press the email button and it would prepare an email in their email client Mozilla Thunderbird with the image as a file attachment.
However recently this has changed back to Microsoft Outlook for no particular reason. Checked all the defaults and they all point to Thunderbird still being the default program for email. Under file associations, have checked that for protocols, SENDTO is set to Thunderbird. However the "E-mail" button still now brings up Outlook. How can I change this back. It's very frustrating and I've played around for a good long while.
my dodgy mail issue is back. Any HTML emails sent to me from Outlook appear as plain text and attachments are missing. I know for a fact that the gateway server they go through does NOT turn them into RTF or anything... It was all working fine and then it stopped. I am beginning to assume it's a problem intermittently caused by Norton AV (360 v3.0 I'm running). I have disabled email scanning but no dice.
