I have a friend who attempts to send email containing pictures in the body of the message. But when I open the mail from here all I get is a blank outline with a red X in the upper left hand corner. Is this something setting in her system that causes this and if so how can it be changed?
View 9 Repliesthere's a really old thread about this already. But it didn't solve my problem. When I boot vista, a little white square appears in the upper left corner. It's not my wallpaper. On the old thread they have resolved the problem as being an ATI GPU Driver problem, and the update fixed it. But here's my problem, I don't have an ATI GPU. When I right click the little white sqaure I can open up its properties, and in the properties it has a name of some website. Shortly after I even read it a "close program" window comes up. I click on close and the sqaure dissapears until the next time I boot. Leaving the white square on just messes with whatever programs Im running. For example: If im watching a movie in full-screen, it will randomly just exit out of full screen. It doesnt do that once the white sqaure is off.

View 9 Replies View Related*I have recently installed a new Canon MP620B color printer to print mostly correspondence coming and going on Windows Mail, running on a Vista Home Premium OS. The Canon replaced a HP Photosmart that started leaking ink.*
*My problem is when printing email the far left edge of the copy (type) does not print. The From: To: Cc: are missing the left half of the F, T and C letters all the way down the page as well. It's as if the page is not centered in the print area.*
*Under the print preferences I have tried "print to fit" and all the options to get that left edge to come out. This does not happen on Word docs however there is a left margin set on those.
When using Windows Mail, I have a series of folders and sub-folders on the left side. It used to be that the sub-folders were always closed. Now, for some reason, the sub-folders are always open when I open up Windows Mail.
This is regardless of how I exit Windows Mail. In other words, when I'm all done with Windows Mail, I leave it with all sub-folders closed, but the next time when I open and use it again, I find that all the sub-folders are open again.
i have a dell xps 630i thats running windows vista. on friday, around 230 eastern time, my computer crashed. when i went to turn it back on tho, i saw something different with the dell writing, and the intel logo on the bottom right corner. they both were covered with dots eveywhere. After that screen passes by, i got a different new screen that i never got before. it was a phoenix awardbios screen. and below that it said, floppy disk(s) fail (40).
never seen that before. when i try to start my computer up, i can either go to start up repair or start normally. when i do the start up repair( ive done it 9 times already) it says my computer cant fix the problem, and then i can either send or not the error report. and when i start it up normally, it goes to a blank screen. and then my computer goes into power save mode. anyone know whats up with it and how i can fix it.
Running Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Time displays in lower right corner, as desired. Is there a way to have the date displayed there too, along side the time?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing problem with hand drawing in Windows Live Messenger on my new PC with Vista Home Premium 64x. It's like there is a limit to how much I can draw; if I draw too many lines or possibly take more than like 10 seconds, it won't send it. It simply tells me that the drawing could not be send.
I normally use a tablet to draw, not only because it's easier but also because Vista can utilize pen pressure. I'm not 100% sure, but I only think the problem occours when I use a tablet. However, I've used another Vista computer before without this problem, although with an older version of WLM. I think it was 32-bit too.
My Dell XPS laptop has a keyboard problem. The right hand shift key no longer works when typing uppercase letters but still works with the arrow keys when highlighting text. I don't think that the key has actually failed completely. I am not familiar with laptops as this is the first one I have owned.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried moving My Documents folder to my D: drive and now have big problems! The whole folder disappeared. After searching the net for answers I altered some Registry settings (which was stupid I know) but was able to get My Documents folder back under Desktop. Now I don't have a User profile under C:Users, just a Public folder. Here's the good part, if I right-click on My Documents folder in the Start Menu it says that my Location is C:UsersmyUserName which clearly doesn't exist.
Then if I click on myUserName in Windows Explorer it has every folder in the right hand pane except for the "Documents" folder but if I expand the tree of the username on the left hand side of Windows Explorer it has a Documents folder and all my files are dispayed in the right hand pane. Also my NTUSER.dat file is in myUserName folder under Desktop not under C:Users**** where it's supposed to be. Have tried System Restore several times but it makes no difference. Does any of this make any sense? How restore my "Personal" folder under C:Users and the proper registry settings that I should have?

All I get is a border with a little x in the top left hand corner.I havent changed anything. (unless the last auto windows update did).

View "message in html" is greyed out virus check was done since the problem started.
I insert pictures, not attach them, in mails. When I look at the message the pictures are in the body of my e-mail, but when recipients open the mail there is a red cross in a white square instead of the picture and the picture is attached. There is a difference in the html code when I compare the one in the mail I send and the one from the received mail, Windows Mail "corrects" or "inserts" things in the code the moment I send it (that's what I can understand).

This operation used to work OK with XP & OE however using Vista & Windows Mail it only pops up a message stating that the program is not associated. Clicking on an email address in a web page using IE8 works fine, it opens up a Windows Mail reply page.
I have recently had strange pixilated images mixed in with our photos when playing music and selecting slide show, our photos appear along with random images, they are not coming from MY PICTURES folder as i have right clicked when the odd pic appears and they are coming from random folders that i can't find.
I thought the strange graphics were coming from itunes or Tom Tom so i have uninstalled them both...but the images keep coming. How do i stop media center looking and producing these annoying images
All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented. I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.
I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update?
im unable to burn music from my laptop, i have vista basic and until now ive had no problems. I insert a blank cd and it auto loads, then it asks to format before continueing, i click yes, it formats then right at the end it says unable to finish formatting and opens the cd. I then try to burn onto it and the cd stays blank.

Anyways I logged off for a minute and when I had logged off I saw a little blue box in the corner. So I clicked it and it gave me all of these options to (I suppose) enhance my computer. So I clicked a few to just try it out and look. So one of them was "enhance contrast" or something like that and when I had clicked on it my computer went all black, purple, blue, and green. It looked like this (actual screenshots from my computer) So I tried to fix this and I can't seem to do so.

-Remove Upper/lower filters (Lower filters were missing, could this be the problem?)
-Switching the sata ports from were the device was connected.
-Upgrading the firmware of the dvd player

Windows and the bios do see this drive and give it the correct name. I've already tried this with an other drive and she had this problem to.
I've been trying to burn an audio CD on my computer (i've only had this computer for a few months and this is the first time I've tried burning any kind of disc), and when I put the CD in and hit burn it says that my cd is not blank, I tried a handful of blank cds and it spit them all back out at me saying it's not blank. Just to make sure, I opened my computer and looked at the disc there and it WAS blank, so I don't know what to do.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen starting up Vista, my display is always off to the left of the screen, meaning my start button is way off the screen and there's a black space on the right, like the display has simply been moved 2 inches to the left. I can fix it, by entering NVIDIA Control Panel and switch connector: back and forth between HDMI-HDTV (audio disabled) and HDMI - HDTV (audio enabled). but if the pc enters sleep or I reboot the problem is back.
Now I know the general problem because I had it with xp also, seems my monitor likes to tell my pc that it's a tv (I'm sorry I'm not into the tech lingo). And I've fixed it previously by changing codes in .ini files and ect. but I'd rather not do it on a new crisp clean first time install of Vista, anyone know of this problem and how to fix it for good?
i have and use my pc entirely for a MEdia Center. I created a 40 Gig system partition which is now down to its last GB which i find ridiculous seeing i have minimal applications installed. I have deleted the memory dump file and disabled this function, and run a defrag which now has given me 4GB of space. Now a quick check shows about 22 GIG of installed apps including the OS and a 5 GIG pagefile.

It use to be windows xp as a second OS but i deleted it and it left me with 15 gigs of space. I can format it and shrink it just to test if it functions and it does. oh I also tried using partition wizard home edition, it did not work, and i tried to use EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition free edition but it said that its no compatibale with 64-bit even though i got it from the 64-bit section.( and yes just incase, I right clicked and ran as administrator )
View 9 Replies View RelatedTurned off UAC in Vista x64 Ultimate, Received an e-mail that appeared to be my CNN alerts. It was Antivirus XP 2008 virus. Avast Pro 4.8 has been finding viruses in both Safe Mode and regular. Search and Destroy can't seem to deal with them. Backing up my data right now. Ready to reinstall everything. S&D reports clear. IE7 does not always work. I reset and internet connection gets blocked.

I just noticed that the audio from the left comes from the right speaker and vice-versa. This happens randomly and the problem suddenly disappears. The problem is happening again and I don't know how to swap the two speakers. A restart will temporarily fix the problem but later on it gets swapped again. I can't switch the position of the speakers because this is a laptop. This gets very annoying when I'm playing games such as CS.
