My Dell XPS laptop has a keyboard problem. The right hand shift key no longer works when typing uppercase letters but still works with the arrow keys when highlighting text. I don't think that the key has actually failed completely. I am not familiar with laptops as this is the first one I have owned.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just recently purchased a new laptop and it seems that my keyboard is having problems (which is becoming a little annoying when trying to write 2000+ page essays). When I am typing sometimes shortcuts will be in use (as though I have hit CTRL or SHIFT). I can be writing the letter T and a new tab in firefox will be created. Is there anyway to fix this?

I tried to buy another file manager, but it interferred with my AOL and the one by Google won't work on Vista. Can I shift back to the old XP explorer? I can't understand why Microsoft "fixes" things that are not broken with new systems that work so poorly.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing problem with hand drawing in Windows Live Messenger on my new PC with Vista Home Premium 64x. It's like there is a limit to how much I can draw; if I draw too many lines or possibly take more than like 10 seconds, it won't send it. It simply tells me that the drawing could not be send.
I normally use a tablet to draw, not only because it's easier but also because Vista can utilize pen pressure. I'm not 100% sure, but I only think the problem occours when I use a tablet. However, I've used another Vista computer before without this problem, although with an older version of WLM. I think it was 32-bit too.
I have recently accepted a Windows Update and it seems that after this I lost the right hand click function on my mouse. I generally use a toolbar from the taskbar at the bottom of IE8, I can still highlight this but cannot see any sub-menu's.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried moving My Documents folder to my D: drive and now have big problems! The whole folder disappeared. After searching the net for answers I altered some Registry settings (which was stupid I know) but was able to get My Documents folder back under Desktop. Now I don't have a User profile under C:Users, just a Public folder. Here's the good part, if I right-click on My Documents folder in the Start Menu it says that my Location is C:UsersmyUserName which clearly doesn't exist.
Then if I click on myUserName in Windows Explorer it has every folder in the right hand pane except for the "Documents" folder but if I expand the tree of the username on the left hand side of Windows Explorer it has a Documents folder and all my files are dispayed in the right hand pane. Also my NTUSER.dat file is in myUserName folder under Desktop not under C:Users**** where it's supposed to be. Have tried System Restore several times but it makes no difference. Does any of this make any sense? How restore my "Personal" folder under C:Users and the proper registry settings that I should have?
my full desktop is filled with sidebar gadgets, but I am facing a = strange problem, the gadgets keep on moving from right (hand side) to = left, the movement though is very slow. I have found that it moves only = when I start the laptop. Can I stop this movement.
View 9 Replies View Relatedi've been working on this for awhile now and i'm at a dead end. Here is my issue, my machine is running vista x64 ultimate and for the last few weeks, I have not been able to get my 360 to connect to my pc. When i actually turn the 360 on, I get a notification in the taskbar and when i go through the steps to set up my extender, it always fails at connecting to extender. At the same time, the 360 just sits at the contacting screen with the white dots and eventually fails. I'm only using the windows firewall, which i've disabled and still have had no luck. I've also connected the 360 directly to my pc to no avail with 3 different ethernet cables and i'm pretty sure its not the network or my 360 itself because my xp media center works just fine. At this point, I've narrowed it down to my vista machine, but i'm at a loss.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI Am running a 64x vista os and I've installed a linksys PCI adapter into it. well the problem is that i have connection to the internet, but the connection just keeps identifying, normally i would mind, but recently i've notice that all online games lags (not like once every five minutes, almost constantly). I'm sure that the computer can cut the setting, and my connection is 10/10 mbit so ain't that either.

something was wrong to where i thought i got banned..i couldnt post messages or do anything.. well i had a question i got 2 computers one running vista 64 and the other vista 32 and got one hp psc 2355 printer with the latest vista drivers...the wired router i have is a BEFSR41 v. 4.2 and the internet and all works perfectly..i have disarmed my firewall and enabled printer sharing and all...but the printer isnt working..its showing up on the network but... no luck

trying to email and letters sometimes dont appear or get stuck.i'll look up from typing long sentence and its missing bits. does that make sense?
pressing the keys feels the same as normal,nothing sticky yet when writing it 'sticks'. or i have to type very very slowly to get a letter out.sometimes it works ,sometimes it wont but then will give me many of the same letter in a row ie repeating it depending on how many times i've pressed..
i phoned Dell and they suggested i turn off computer and restart-no good.
and then said try a different keyboard so we can work out whether its that or a software program.
i dont know what to do now cos my old keyboard is wireless so i obviously cant plug it in like the current one.
how do i do this?
i am only a beginner so please can you only give really simple answers with detailed explanation/directions. its not my computer but my husbands so i dont know how any of it was set up.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell A960 All-in-One Printer installed (Hardwired) onto my Vista Ultimate x64 Machine..I have installed the Drivers for it and it is working fine on this machine.Now, I have an HP Laptop running XP on it, which is connected to my Network, wirelessly. I can see my network and printer and put folders and files into my network folders/computers. It appears that I can print as well, as when I print, the window pops up and says "Printing". Problem: It won't print! I go into my Printer in my Vista Machine and it shows in the status "Deleting" The Printer is "shared".
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Dell XPS with Windows Vista constantly locks up. I thought maybe it was McAfee causing the problem so I uninstalled it and installed Norton. The problem is still occuring. I even upgraded the ram from 2 gb to 4. I turned off the Gadgets on the sidebar, run defrag, and reboot. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, whether I'm in Windows Mail, using IE7 or in a program. I've read many posts regarding this but haven't found a resolution to my problem. If anyone has some new advice, I would love to hear it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just restored my Dell Inspiron to it's original factory settings. It has Vista Home 32 bit. I got the "Reset was succesfull" screen. Now at start up I get my user name (there was always only one user acct.) and when I type my password it does not accept my password. It may be possible that when I purchased the computer three years ago I used a different password and then changed it and have just orgatten that I did that but I doubt it. Should I just throw this thing away or is ther any solution to get past the welcome screen?
