Disabled DELL Support On 64 Bit Systems
Apr 22, 2009
This is a very interesting release. It adds full support for a lot of new hardware. AMCC/3WARE users will be happy to see SMART data for all of their EIDE/SATA hard disks. Full Intel QST support has been added too (you need to RUN AS ADMIN on some OS). Support for new SMBuses (like nVidia MCP79 and SiS968) is there. New chips (like the ADT7470 and the ADT7462) have been added and support has been improved for some others. ITET8720 identification has been greatly improved. DELL support is now tested on more chipsets. Windows7 32 and 64 bit has been added and verified. Both the installer and the executable are now digitally signed. A lot of refinements, improvements and bug fixes were applied. Quote: 4.38

Reviewing Services on my Vista Ultimate 64-bit machine I noticed that the DNS Client is disabled? I have a wireless router configured to the laptop and to the printer and have for some times been experiencing disconnection problems to the laptop and loosing the printer connectivity completely until I unplug the router, wait, and plug it back in--which will restore connectivity until the next time.
Shouldn't the DNS Client be enabled? Also noticed in Services I found HP Network Devices Support is set to Automatic (Delayed Start). Could this be what is causing the printer (C7280 All-in-One) to write so many (hundreds in days) .log entries in
WindowsTemp?

I am currently in the process of configuring a new Dell XPS 630. I want the system to be primarily for gaming. I have yet to use a PC with Vista, so needless to say I am not familiar with it, let alone the difference between Vista 32-bit and 64 bit systems. The price difference between the 32- and 64-bit systems that I am debating between is very small. Anyway, my questions and concerns are. Is there an advantage to having a 62-bit version over a 32-bit version of vista when it comes to gaming? Any performance problems/issues of one or the other?
If I get the 64-bit version, will 4GB of RAM be enough for gaming or do I need more? Which processor will be better... Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.40GHz,1066FSB) or Intel® Core™2 E8500 (6MB,3.16 GHz, 1333FSB)? How much hard drive space does the OS take up? Would a 500GB hard drive be a decent size. (assuming I plan to remove most games after they are completed)Here is the configuration Im looking at. Price with shipping comes to $1216 USD. Plus I have $550 worth of Dell gift cards I've been saving. Nice thing is 19in monitor is included.........

I've been using WinXP Pro since it was first released and I'm very happy with it. However, I have a requirement to learn about Vista and Linux so I recently bought a 500GB hard drive and intend to partition it in the following way: three partitions, each 50GB in size, one for XP, one for Vista Ultimate and one for Linux (probably Ubuntu) with the remainder of the disc probably split into either two or three partitions for music, photos and user documents/data. My question is, in what order do I install the operating systems, so that when I power up the machine, I'm presented with the choice of which OS to boot into?

Like many other users I see on this forum, which I think is great by the way, I am new to the game of Vista and find that i have much to learn. I have a question regarding Graohics cards for someone to answer. I am running an ATI (POwerColor) 4850 and the local company that built the computer for me claims that the ATI Catalyst Control Centre will not run properly with Vista x64 systems. The card itself is running fine, but I began qustioning them on this when I found no control centre installed. The CCC apparently causes the card to crash quite often, so they suggested I only install the driver and not the CCC the next time I update. Makes me a little nervous to install the 8.12 driver now!!

BRING BACK ALL CD FOR COMPUTER , TECH SOME TIMES CANT RESTORE OR REINSTALL HARDWARE IF THE CD IS NOT HERE.BRING BACK THE MEDIA/RECOVERY CDS.RECOVERY MEDIA Most computer systems no longer include "Recovery Media" (Disks or CDs used to restore your computer system to it's factory shipped state). Many do not even include Operating System disks. This is not specific to systems purchased from any one company, but now standard practice throughout the entire industry. However, many manufacturers include software on the hard drive that creates recovery media for you. This allows burning your own set of recovery CDs or DVDs - all you need is the blank media.Inclusion of such a recovery utility varies by manufacturer and model; not all manufactures and models include such a utility. For those that include such a utility we recommend you create your own set of recovery media after completing the Windows installation. In other words, right after you startusing your PC!If you fail to do this and encounter a difficulty in the future you may not be able to properly restore your computer. Some manufacturers may have physical recovery media available separately for purchase; consult your owner???s manual support information section foradditional information. Systems that do not come with a CD/DVD burner may still include Recovery Disks - please check the manufacturer's specs. This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. computer is 4 days old.keyboard going funny for no reason.nothing loose.
trying to email and letters sometimes dont appear or get stuck.i'll look up from typing long sentence and its missing bits. does that make sense?
pressing the keys feels the same as normal, nothing sticky yet when writing it 'sticks'. or i have to type very very slowly to get a letter out.sometimes it works ,sometimes it wont but then will give me many of the same letter in a row ie repeating it depending on how many times i've pressed..
i phoned Dell and they suggested i turn off computer and restart-no good.
and then said try a different keyboard so we can work out whether its that or a software program.
i dont know what to do now cos my old keyboard is wireless so i obviously cant plug it in like the current one.
how do i do this?
i am only a beginner so please can you only give really simple answers with detailed explanation/directions. its not my computer but my husbands so i dont know how any of it was set up.

I have the following hard discs:
I have more than 800GB available. I have not seen any mention anywhere of others getting a message like the one I got. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

My Dell XPS with Windows Vista constantly locks up. I thought maybe it was McAfee causing the problem so I uninstalled it and installed Norton. The problem is still occuring. I even upgraded the ram from 2 gb to 4. I turned off the Gadgets on the sidebar, run defrag, and reboot. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing, whether I'm in Windows Mail, using IE7 or in a program. I've read many posts regarding this but haven't found a resolution to my problem. If anyone has some new advice, I would love to hear it.

I just restored my Dell Inspiron to it's original factory settings. It has Vista Home 32 bit. I got the "Reset was succesfull" screen. Now at start up I get my user name (there was always only one user acct.) and when I type my password it does not accept my password. It may be possible that when I purchased the computer three years ago I used a different password and then changed it and have just orgatten that I did that but I doubt it. Should I just throw this thing away or is ther any solution to get past the welcome screen?
