The ATI Catalyst Control Centre Will Not Run Properly With Vista X64 Systems

Like many other users I see on this forum, which I think is great by the way, I am new to the game of Vista and find that i have much to learn. I have a question regarding Graohics cards for someone to answer. I am running an ATI (POwerColor) 4850 and the local company that built the computer for me claims that the ATI Catalyst Control Centre will not run properly with Vista x64 systems. The card itself is running fine, but I began qustioning them on this when I found no control centre installed. The CCC apparently causes the card to crash quite often, so they suggested I only install the driver and not the CCC the next time I update. Makes me a little nervous to install the 8.12 driver now!!
After installing the new 8.12 ATI drivers i cant start Catalyst Control Centre. I can see it running in task manager but it just wont show on the screen. This has happened with previous drivers and i had to re-install CCC few times for it to work.
Ive just installed a HD4850 but i can not get the ati catalyst centre to install to change the settings on the card, i have tried a number of times with no luck

Solution
1st Uninstall all codecs first.
2nd Then use this codec cleaner Free-Codecs.com :: Download Vidc.Cleaner 09.03.2004 : If you don't see all codecs in VirtualDub, VirtualdubMod or other programs try Vidc.Cleaner

i recently posted about my Control center and windows 7. The problems still there but i found something out. as i did a fresh install of windows 7 my video driver was wiped. I installed CCC thinking that the driver came with it like ATI said but that did not work. I am back to the standard vga adapter. then my Control Center started working... but i cant use it cuz i did not have the driver installed. WTF man??? So i got another ATI driver from the website and then installed it. but it went back to the error code B3X64.
I have recently started to transition to Vista (dual booting with XPPro). One problem that I'm having is that my ergo mouse (EvoluentVertical Mouse) uses a driver that runs as an application, not aservice (I think). It has a tray icon, but that can be hidden via the options. The problem is that every time it's software runs at startup (the application launches via the Startup start menu group) the UAC kicks off and ask for consent for it to run. Normally you only see this when you install something or if you try to access a high level admin type tool, as I understand it.Is there some way to permanently consent to this application running at startup? If the application isn't running the mouse doesn't function properly. I tried using the compatibility option to have it run with administrator privileges, but that didn't make any difference.
Did anyone notice that when you have SP1 (finally) installed, and you have 4GBytes of RAM, Vista will actually report 4GB in the Wecome Centre (Computer Details) of Control panel?
I have disc defragmenter to run at a certain time, say I am away from my pc and my screen saver comes on does it still work? as in run disc defrag still?
I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition Dutch Version, updated with SP1 and all the patches/updates until today. However, I have encountered two problems lately, that might be related. During one of the last Windows update sessions, one of the recommended updates was KB940157: Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista for x64-systems (11,8MB).
The update downloaded succesfully, created a restore point, but then during installation of Search 4.0, windows update stops and announces an update fail error:
Failed: 1 update Errorcode: 800F0900
I've been googling this particular error code in combination with KB940157, but it doesn't bring up any entries. Then later on, I discovered that when I go into the Windows Components window (via Control Panel, Add/remove software), the entire windows stays blank (first it says "Wait a few moments..."). This only lasts a few seconds then shows a complete empty window.
I want to uninstall ati catalyst 9.2 so i can try ati catalyst 9.7 with sims 2 and see if it has compatibility issues like 9.3-9.6 had for me.ATI catalyst 9.2 was all i could get to work with sims 2 and i want to try 9.7 to see what happens.
When i selected the ati catalyst icon in control panel to uninstall an error message appeared about ati catalyst installation manager stopped working.I did get the screen for removing the ati software and pressed next,but nothing happened except the ati catalyst icon in the programs section of control panel disappeared without actually uninstalling the driver/catalyst software.
Also,i retried uninstalling by pressing setup.exe in c:/ati/support/9-2_vista64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_75977/setup.exe
all that happens is that catalyst install manager stopped working error messages pop up and also i get problems and solutions icon appear after each uninstall failure regarding "solve a problem with microsoft visual studio".It's about this....

I am running Vista 32-bit with the a XFX Radeon HD4850 graphics card with dual DVI. Seems that for some reason the ATI Catalyst software will not install. Tried to download the newest version with the same problems.
I cannot play some games. The only thing what was changed is my new LCD 24'' monitor. But I think, this is not a problem, because I tried to connect my old 19'' CRT monitor and these games are not playable. I tried reinstall catalyst, but nothing has changed
I cannot install any ATI driver on my Vista! after the installation exe begins, it goes into a detecting phase. Then it says "Fail to find any installable component"; and, the error msg is "Cannot detect any compatible ATI hardware" Workaround: Install the driver thru Vista's Device Manager. However, Catalyst control center doesn't install in this way.
I have been using vista for about a year and three days ago it removes my admin account and swaps My account to just a regular user. Which now I have no control over my vista os. Any time I try to log in as amin, or add software or remove software its says ACCESS DENIED. No matter what I do I get a box that asks for the admins password(never has been one) But there is no where to even put a pw in.Its greyed out and the “ok” button is greyed out also. Had a virus on my computer. Friend of mine was able to wipe out my hardrive and start over, and reinstalled Vista, but my pc is not able to run vista properly. When I try to reinstall XP, it gives me an error message saying I already have a higher windows version installed. How do I get Vista off my PC?
Microsoft is currently running an ad campaign with a toddler performing complex editing tasks on Vista. The message is you are dumber than a three year old if you cannot get Vista to work properly. This ad is an insult to all levels of Vista users that reflects the hostility and contempt Microsoft's current regime has toward its customers. I don't think Bill Gates at his worst was that hostile to customers, just business competitors, which is an entirely different mindset. It must be Balmer. He is going to run Microsoft right into the ground. It hardly matters. If the future is in the clouds, and it likely is, then the OS is irrelevant anyway and it is just a matter of time before Google swallows Microsoft. I think Google would do a better job of running Microsoft than its current regime which seems to have the mentality of General Motors in the 1970s: they'll buy what we make regardless of quality or reliability.
My 2 new vista laptops won't see either the network set up at home or my office (both as 'OFFICE') or vice versa. I downloaded the LLTD and it's made not one jot of difference..Been through the sharing etc. *The 2 lappys see eachother BTW*I downloaded network magic demo on one laptop and the main PC at home and appears the network is correct as they both see eachother . (it even sees the one laptop which hasn't got NM on it) I must say I'm kinda disappointed that Vista and XP are not properly configured to automatically 'see' eachother and have to resort to a 3rd party to do so?
That aside I have three options
1 Dump Vista (my current fav ;-) 2 Solve this problem 3 Buy NM for home/work
If anyone has any input I'd love to see if no/ 2 can be cracked!
I suspect my problem is NOT a Vista problem as such, since the boot failure seems to occur before BIOS POST. If this is the case, then clearly this posting does not belong anywhere within Vista Forums and could therefor be deleted. However, in the hope that somebody can shed light on this problem, I will briefly explain the symptoms:
a) power-on b) function buttons selection displayed c) then, immediately windows boot manager displays a message, the essentials of which are: a recent hardware/software change might have installed an incorrectly signed or damaged file. it goes on to suggest: using a windows installation disk to repair computer or press enter to display the boot menu then f8 for advanced boot options and select last known good. It finishes the message with Status: 0xc0000428 Info: windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file I don't have an installation disk; pressing enter just reboots the computer and repeats the above message; I cannot access the recovery partition on the hard drive; I rely on Paragon drive backup but of course this is useless if the problem is pre-POST!!!
well i just bought a new laptop today. was an xp user. was using avg on xp. anyways what would you guys recommend i use for vista64? should i get an AV and another one for firewall? or should i go with something 2 in 1 like ESET Smart Security 4?

Have Vista running on Dell Inspiron 1720. All of a sudden I can't start Windows. Startup Repair can't fix the problem and System restore can't seem to solve the problem either. Am starting to panic. Startup Repair listed the following as the problem details but it leaves me clueless. Have used Dell pre-boot checks and all physical systems seem fine so must be software.
using an old DOS program that worked under XP, but doesn't appear to work properly in Vista. When I execute the program, it comes up with the error message "This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." My choices then are "Close" or "Ignore". Whichever option I click on, the program will then run, but in a miniscule window that I can't alter. how to get this to run in fullscreen like it did before? I'm working on getting him to join the 21st century, but in the interim, I'd like to make this work...at least temporarily.
Newbie to Vista also so I am looking for your expertise/input to guide me in a computer selection...I am looking to buy a laptop. Do not need many bells or whistles, however, here are the specs: .......I have been told that running Microsoft Windows Vista on wireless will take "forever" to load with only 2GB on this computer. Is this true? I have a Dell Insipron desktop with Vista Home Premium. It's a standard-style desktop, mouse, keyboard, etc... I'd like to purchase a touch screen LCD monitor, and do away with the mouse and keyboard. I've read about the Vista option of Touch Pointer, but I don't see it in the Vista Control Panel like the documentation says. Will that option "appear" if I make the touch screen LCD purchase and hook it up? Or, is that something special for tablet/mobile PCs?

I know, though, about the 3GB limit of a 32bit system(I hear people say that Vista 32 utilizes (NOT recognize, but UTILIZE) 4GB of RAM, but I have yet to see any evidence that supports that, so I will stick to the idea that 3GB is the limit) I know that the 3GB=System RAM+Video RAM. I install 1 Nvdia 8800GT 512mb video card. System RAM reads 2.5GB. 3GB of System RAM-the 512 of the video card=2.5GB. goody gumdrops. I insall the 2nd Nvidia 8800GT 512 video card and enable SLI.System RAM reads 1.5GB? Shouldn't it read 2.0GB?? 3GB of System RAM-512 for card 1-512 for card 2=2.0...not 1.5...??? Where did the missing 500mb go? AND IF Vista 32 is supposed to be able to utilize 4GB, then shouldn't my RAM read 3.5 before SLI and 3.0 after SLI??? I have built and rebuilt, installed and reinstalled and I still come up with the same thing no matter what I try.
I know the new Windows Vista has parental controls that can record IM conversatiosn, but if you don't have a downloaded IM service and are using a web "chat" service to IM people, will it still reocrd that? Like web messengers?

I have a Vista PC with a large screen LCD screen attached to it. What I want to do is use a Vista Tablet to be able to control the large screen so can present documents on it such as PowerPoint slide shows and be able to use the functions of the tablet i.e. using the stylus pen to add notes on top of the current document shown on the large screen. Basically use the large screen as a external monitor but have it connect through a wireless network. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so what do I need to get it working.
I like the CPU speed control in Power-->Advaanced settings, with precision to 1%. We've always had it in IBm Thinkpads, since IBm sold it to China which rebranded it as Lenovo, I switched to American HP. Regular Windows, not taylored by IBM, was never aware of Thinkpads unique internals. Now with Vista it doesn't matter, i can control processor and I CAN SEE & HEAR RESULTS! Suppose fan is blowing and my hand can feel warm air flowing from vents, I tested it several times when I switch from CPU 100% to 25%, fan slows down stops, air gets cooler, and fan is often stopped which gives me some peace in temrs of reliability. A hot computer is bound to sustain permanent damage, heat is the biggest killer of electronics. So I switch to 100% when running CAD & Graphics/Video apps, 25% when writing articles, 10% when reading/browsign plain text, of course I don't annoy myself by clicking switches and playign with this instead of real work.
But still i appreciate this control, because I my profession is electroncis-related I just like this type of clock frequency control. IBM also provided us with automatic CPU, automatic PCI bus or fixed PCI bus frequency, optical drive turn-off time in addiiton to harddisk timer found for real techies who get deep into hardware, we don't have that in Vista but I don't care. I have a real quiet laptop now despite its gigantic 17inch display and hardware meant for hard-core CAD, Graphics & Gaming, you don't alway sneed processor toiling hard in summer heat, only asking for potential fan damage-->CPU damage, so thsi control is nice....
