Catalyst Control Centre : Running In Task Manager But Not Shown On The Screen
Dec 20, 2008
After installing the new 8.12 ATI drivers i cant start Catalyst Control Centre. I can see it running in task manager but it just wont show on the screen. This has happened with previous drivers and i had to re-install CCC few times for it to work.
Like many other users I see on this forum, which I think is great by the way, I am new to the game of Vista and find that i have much to learn. I have a question regarding Graohics cards for someone to answer. I am running an ATI (POwerColor) 4850 and the local company that built the computer for me claims that the ATI Catalyst Control Centre will not run properly with Vista x64 systems. The card itself is running fine, but I began qustioning them on this when I found no control centre installed. The CCC apparently causes the card to crash quite often, so they suggested I only install the driver and not the CCC the next time I update. Makes me a little nervous to install the 8.12 driver now!!
Sometimes my hard drive light is flashing like crazy when I'm not running anything. What is Vista doing behind my back? Task Manager shows nothing running.
both are located in program files-internet explorer. one is ausing about 81,576 k and that one is 624 kb in size. The other one uses around 9,100 k of memory and is 624 kb in size. Is there a problem here? I only see 2 when IE8 is open. doesnt mateer how many ages
Utorrent keeps not responding after like 3 hours of running. I close it but it the task manager, it says its still running with *32 next to it. So does IE when I close that. They close visualy, but they dont close in the task manager and keep running. I cant open a new Utorrent because it says its still running. I havto keep restarting my computer. Its a new computer (only like a week old) so WTF do I do? I have the 64 bit vista. Looks as tho no 32 bit program gets terminated (or atleast the ones with the *32 next to them. WTF do I do?
In Xp when I used the task manger it told me how much CPU is being used. this was very helpful because if one particular process was taking up to much power I ended task.
Yet in Vista x32, even when the cpu is going at full pelt, it only register a few % on the odd program. Something is running, but I do not know what. This has been an ongoing problem for years, and I have installed and reinstalled, and run ant viuses and malware and root kits. Yet when running fully loaded, it never shows what is running, even when showing all users.
My laptop is a Dell inspiron 1720.
I would be grateful if somebody could shed so light on this upgrade from Xp.
Ive just installed a HD4850 but i can not get the ati catalyst centre to install to change the settings on the card, i have tried a number of times with no luck
I don't know if this has been asked or not - I went to use the task manager via CTL-ALT-DEL. But there is no clear way to close the screen - I have tried to get the screen to disappear but to no avail ..
Here are my symptoms, first of all I'm writing this in safe mode with networking and running a Malwarbytes scan while I do so. My problems are: My startbar and icons aren't showing up, but my sidebar is there with all its gadgets and my background is there too. Also, when I right click I can go to Personalize, but basically other than the control panel and when I literally click on "explorer.exe" no programs will open. When I click explorer, it lets me look through my files, but still no taskbar or start bar. When I "CTRL ALT DEL", the task manager screen or w/e is completely black, but I can press ESC to get out of that and back to the blank background.
i recently posted about my Control center and windows 7. The problems still there but i found something out. as i did a fresh install of windows 7 my video driver was wiped. I installed CCC thinking that the driver came with it like ATI said but that did not work. I am back to the standard vga adapter. then my Control Center started working... but i cant use it cuz i did not have the driver installed. WTF man??? So i got another ATI driver from the website and then installed it. but it went back to the error code B3X64.
I am having an issue with the hd 4350 card. I read on another post that re-installing windows solved the problem however I have an on-board video unlike the said poster. Problem: Device manager only lists the on-board display adapter, not the 4350. Heres the funny thing, When I run my diag program (pasted below) the 4350 is actually listed. I did RMA the first one I received and was disappointed to see the replacement doing the same thing. Anyway the reason for this post is to find any other possible solutions before I go an re-install windows. Wiping my puter is really the last resort for me but at this point RMA is no longer the issue.
Just about 1-2 weeks ago i was sitting comfortably in my living room gaming away when i noticed the game i was playing started having problems. In the mist of playing my keyboard locks up and mouse freezes and i can't move my character at all. I can't even alt+tab to task manager to fix the problem. I noticed the windows vista error sound play and then a few seconds later the game resumes normally. I thought it was the particular game, but when i ditched it and started playing navyfield i noticed the same problem occurring there.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? I was thinking driver related problems or possible graphics since the problem never occurs outside of gaming. When the problem happens the green lights for numb lock etc.. quickly off and on. I have disabled trusted installer thinking it was lag durring game and that cause the information to pause....I have recently reformated my hard drived with the disk that came with the computer and did a full installation of windows updates.
the infamous fake "Vista atnivirus 2010" somehow got into my system, with its unstopable topups that would never end until I did this. the program was av.exe, and is indicated in task manager as gav.exe *32. This is a hidden file in the folder (user)/AppData / Local. To resolve this issue, I did the following:
1. Start task manager. 2. Right-click the file in task manager 3. Select the option gOpen containing folderh. 4. Close task manager.........
How do I get Task manager to work? It doesn't shut down frozen (non responding) programs including WindowsMail, IE7 or MozillaFF... all of which "stop responding" constantly. We're all getting sick and tired of having to reboot to get anything done online. I can't find any infections on this PC which has WDefender, Avast, Spybot, Adaware, A-Squared and ZoneAlarm. We ran all these programs, updated, several times and no viruses or other crapware was found. This Vista Home Premium is less stable than the old W98 we recently gave away. In fact we had less problems with W98 than we're having with Vista.
This morning,I opened up the Task Manager and noticed that there are no longer any options such as Applications,Processes,Services,Performance,Networking, and User(thosetabs are no longer available).
In addition File,Options,View,Windows, and Help at the top hasdisappeared also.
Also, the minimize, maximize, and close out buttons have disappeared inthe upper right hand corner,so I can no longer minimize or close thetask manager window. However, when I switch to a different user, the taskmanager window is normal and all those options are there.
I would perform a system restore to a date and time of last night at11:00 pm or sometime yesterday, but I was having trouble with my internetconnection last night and yesterday and I'm afraid if I go back a day insystem restore,I will lose my internet connection again because Belkinhad me change some settings yesterday and last night that allowed me tostay connected to the internet.
In Windows XP Ctrl+Alt+Del brought up Task Manager, In Vista it takes you to an intermediate menu with one option to Start Task Manager. Is there a way to bypass the intermediate screen?
my task manager is not working properly. After starting, it freezes and doesn't show any changes in cpu usage and Memory (under performance tab) I have to double click the CPU usage box, then it shows the latest status.
I haven't been able to find any information on how to overcome this problem. When a third party software decides to 'stop responding' and I choose to "Close program", the application's window is closed, but the process is still running. If I select the persistent process and click the "End Process" button, the precess does not end; and there is no way I can force-close the process - except to restart the computer. I am currently using Vista Ultimate x64, and I'm the Administrator. I'm simply referring to processes of third-party software (e.g. Firefox,uTorrent,Opera etc...) Here's the strange thing: generally I can end any process through Task Manager, until the program decides to stop responding, that's when I am unable to end it's process.
I hope this is the right section for this thread, But I'm working on an old acer 1.6 Ghz processor 512Mb ram running vista home premium. Porblem is that Explorer will not load. Task manager will not respond nor will Alt+Ctrl+Del do anything. I checked the reg key for the shell but it is fine. I am running out of ideas on how to get windows to continue to load. Using restore disks are out of the question. They are what I want run in the end, but the restore disk that I have apears to need to be run from a program from within windows. does anyone have an idea on how to coax this thing back to life?
Vista 64, 2gb ram, Geforce 8600, 250 gb sata hd, intel 6420 core2duo cpu, asus P5L vm mobo. Anyone suggest a tool that will let me see what exactly is running in the background. In the task manager/processes there a "Host Process for Windows" going on thats using approx 107,212K of memory. Image name is Svchost.exe, would this be the Superfetch at work here ? Also I seem to have 68 processes (which I think could be reduced)going on in total, cpu usage when idle is at 1% and physical memory at 58 %. Are these figures near normal for the above specs ? The computer does'nt seem any slower.
I read an older thread on disabling/enabling Task Manager. I followed the instructions . . . but I must have a different issue regarding my Task Manager. When I control-alt-del and hit Task Manager, it comes up in my menu bar. When I try to bring it up to my screen, I see a flash waaay off to the left (off of my screen). It's apparently running, but I can't get to it I have tried the following but still having corrected the problem:
1. Removed all the spyware, etc that was on my machine 2. Ran "regedit" per various instructions (this forum's instructions were the only ones that I could actually follow and perform - which gives me great confidence that I'm at the right place - you guys are great!) 3. Restored computer 4. Tried resizing the screen to capture it I am the Administrator as this is my personal computer I just don't know what to do. I've tried everything I can think of.
I have asony vgn-nr260e vaio with vista. after my last windows update now when i press ctrl+alt+del there is no option for task manager and there is no search button in my start menu. when i was able to locate anything that was related to the task manager it said that the task manager has been disabled by the system admin I am the admin account.
The screen in the picture below has shown up twice. Once upon awakening from sleep and once while reading a document in Firefox. The only cure is to press and hold the on/off button until the system powers down. Windows says that I have the most current video driver. What else can I check before sending it back to HP? Picture taken with my iPhone in a dimly lit room.
My wife has just bought a laptop and has been playing the included "Hearts" game that comes with Vista Basic. I have set so that her name -Pat- appears as the key player in the game but for no apparent reason sometimes she becomes 'User' and Pat is not shown on the screen. There is nothing I can see to cause this but advice from one of you knowledgeable people out and might keep me out of the doghouse.
Tuesday I finally had my system running like I wanted it to. I run Home Premium 64 bit SP1. So I thought I should make a full backup of of all my documents on the internal harddisk and the external harddisk as well. I did this with the built-in backup centre. The backup was made to DVD's. The first attempt failed. My wife was working on her account, while backup was running on my account. It just stopped for an unknown reason.
I started another full backup and got a blue screen when changing DVD's. The Problems and Solutions function did'nt come up with a solution. This happened three times in total. Today I finally finished this backup (it picks up where it left of). My system is running fine otherwise. My harddisk is fine. HDTune doesnt show any bad sectors. I suspect it's a driver problem of sorts, but i'd like to have a definitive answer...........
