Did anyone notice that when you have SP1 (finally) installed, and you have 4GBytes of RAM, Vista will actually report 4GB in the Wecome Centre (Computer Details) of Control panel?

View 5 Replies View RelatedLike many other users I see on this forum, which I think is great by the way, I am new to the game of Vista and find that i have much to learn. I have a question regarding Graohics cards for someone to answer. I am running an ATI (POwerColor) 4850 and the local company that built the computer for me claims that the ATI Catalyst Control Centre will not run properly with Vista x64 systems. The card itself is running fine, but I began qustioning them on this when I found no control centre installed. The CCC apparently causes the card to crash quite often, so they suggested I only install the driver and not the CCC the next time I update. Makes me a little nervous to install the 8.12 driver now!!

But when I go to display settings the tab where it says "color" says Highest(32 bit). What does that mean? Does one have any thing to do with the other? My PC Specs:MoBo: Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe/WiFi-AP, a MSI RX3870-T2D512E OCgraphics card. 2gig memory And a AMD Phenom X4 9600.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy buddy was bringing over some files for me on his laptop hdd running xp. I plugged it into my vista x64 computer via usb and I am having a few issues. The hdd shows up in My Computer and shows stuff in it but when I open it, it says that the folder is empty. I whent to Vistas disk manager and it shows everything is fine with the hdd but for some reason the files just wont show up.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I go into the C: Drive.. it shows program files.. and then it also shows a Program Files (x86) folder.. why do I have both, and one is 32 bit. Whats it for, what should I use it for. or do the things you try and install that are 32 bit go in there, and the others go in the normal file?? Please let me kno what the deal is with that.
One last question, I just got a new system built.. and now I wanna take the HD from my old system, add it to my new one.. and move everything over, is it just that simple. plug it in.. let my computer see it. open and drag everything. or is there ways to do it. Like I don't wanna just drag everything or I'd have 2 of everything. and it would take forever to do it all folder at a time. So what should I do. Open my Music and drag it all into My music new system. so the folder stays and stuff inside get transfered. or what?

at the System Diagnostic Report, I get a warning advising that the scan failed to detect running anti-virus, anti-spyware etc. protection, here and yet at Start>Control Panel>Security Centre, all protection requirements are shown as up and running, here
is there any way that I can get the scan to recognise the Security protection setup, and so include it in the System Diagnostic Report? I've had no problems with viruses, malware or spyware. This is purely an administrative issue to try and get the System Diagnostic Report to give a true account of the system.

Security Center reports my firewall (Online Armor) as turned off when its working. I have tried rebuilding and deleting the WMI Repository it seems to work for a few days then Security Center reports online Armor is turned off.

However programs i already had on my hdd install fine. I have not yet had time to test a 64 bit native app to see if it installs fine, but all the programs i try and fail to run once downloaded are on the compatibility list.

past;
1) Per User Archived Windows error report...
2) Per user Queued Windows Error Report....
3) System Archived Windows Error reporting....
4) System Queued Windows error Reporting....
What are these entries? The total data of all 4 almost are a full GIG of drive space. Does this data at some point automatically get deleted? Can they "all" be safely deleted? Some and if so, which ones.
Ok this is not the same problem as the security centre cant be started issue. I can start thee service by going into services setting it to automatic stat up and clicking start service.
My problem is it after i click ok and go out of the properties box the security center start up gets set to disabled again. No matter what i do i cant set it to automatic/automatic(delayed start) and every time i start the pc i have to go into services and enable it manually. its highly irritating.
I have had a few dramas, have had a factory reset, warranty issues you name it. have loaded all back in again, have had some Malware issues, all has been solved. Finally I think my computer is working properly again, happy days.Wanted to whack on some random tunes from Media Centre and found that it no longer exists on computer. I have looked at Microsoft site and can't sem to find a download for Windows Vista Media Player.

I'm tired of looking at various buttons and banners from assorted software apps, visited websites etc and maps of europe from my tomtom backup. I tried changing the stetting in the Library option to no avail - even with no directories set to watch, it still pulls in picture files from random locations - is there any way of controlling where media centre gets it's pictures from. I have a single directory with all my photos - how can i get it just to use this directory?

Whereas AVG reports "All security features are working correctly and are up to date" although I have inward and outward email checking turned off. Have found and downloaded a fix "reset_access_avg8_en.exe" from the AVG website but the notification icon persists.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI m running Windows Vista Home Basice Off of a Compaq presario CQ40 Notebook PC 32-bit OS. I was using my comp on wireless internet, turned it off and when i came back to it my firewall all of a sudden was busted. I have gone into Windows Security Centre and it comes up with the four options, Firewall, Automatic Updating, Malware Protection and Other Security Options. Now Firewall says Off. Automatic updating says Off. Malware protection says Check Settings, and Other is OK!. Now I click on the option under firewall to turn it on and it comes up saying Security Centre can't turn on windows firewall. Now underneath that it says turn it on manually, so i click that and i get another screen with a warning box saying "Windows Firewall is not using the recomended settings to protect your computer.
To the right of that there is an update settings now button, i click that and im sent to a Windows needs your permission to continue screen where i select continue. Now i get a screen saying Windows firewall was unable to make the requested updates. Also since this has happened my Optus wireless internet wont connect which means no internet access on that notebook, and now my iphone is not detected by itunes............
New computer.Keyboard not typing properly.DELL disabled background programs, side bar and upper horizontal icons on monday. 1 mth free Mcafee came with computer. Today I checked SECURITY CENTRE and it says: Warning,the security centre has not recorded an antivirus product.Cause: either its not installed or not recognized. solution: verify that its installed. Disabling programs DOESNT delete them does it? i'm sure i saw Mcafee in the files somewhere. How do i confirm for myself its still installed? and how do i verify to security centre that its installed. there were no options to click on.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an 10/100 wired connection through a linksys router to an XBOX 360 and am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. I've had ZERO succuss in playing MCE content - ie MP3s and viewing JPGs - on the XBox.
The Media Center menus on the Xbox are intolerably slow, taking 5-30 seconds to respond. Eventually if I have the patience to wait until the XBOX Media center accesses the files located on the Vista machine it takes upwards of 2 minutes just to load one jpg. When I run the tune network tool in WMC I get a message saying that:
"Your network may not have enough bandwidth for consistent performance on your extender device."
When I view the performance graph in the tool my bandwith barely registers on the graph.
Other things I have tried to no avail:
- turned off all firewalls
- unitstalled anti-virus software
- port forwarded the following ports in the router, TCP2869, TCP10243,
UDP1900, UDP10280 to UDP10284
- played with the flow control settings
- tried selecting all possible "speed & duplex" settings
Support from Microsoft sucks:mad:. The XBox people have pawned me off on the Vista support people. I wouldn't let the Vista support people hand me back to the XBox people...although they tried pretty hard. The Vista support people are saying they need to recreate the problem in their lab and get back to me.
I have had this new HP vista media centre computer for 2 weeks, and can't get Media Centre to play 1/2 the 500 gb worth of movies that my old XP media Centre played without any trouble at all! Some are MPEG-4, others are div-x, some are Dvd format. I have seen others with similar posts in other forums and I have loaded up all the lates codecs (safe one) from Divx, and ffdshow etc... I have to play all my movies with Nero or Media Player, which both have no issues with. I feel like this is a dud, and can't believe that a full hard recovery is worth the trouble.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOriginally my intention was to go the whole nine yards with WMC, ie, the dual digital TV tuners/PVR thing etc etc. However, I ended up getting a deal on a Sky+ box, so, long story short, I really just use it to play music and movies. I don't have an extensive picture library and so on, so I just get it to watch the Music and Movie directories. All the others have been removed from the watch-list and now I would like these other folders to die with dignity as far as the main interface is concerned. I don't want to have to go up (to Pictures) then across to Videos. I know this may seem as if I would be interested in hiring someone to do my breathing for me, and maybe I won't lose any sleep over it, but I would like to slim down the primary interface if it can be done.
