Windows VISTA OEM License ONLY For Manufacturer

May 20, 2008

is it also for users, who don't run a comapny? I have bought a Windows VISTA DVD and when I received it, it had "OEM System Builder Pack" written on it. It also says: "EXCLUSIVELY for system builders." And after some research on the Wikipedia I see that COMPANIES that sell PCs normally buy OEM licenced software. I gues users should buy a "retail" version. (NOT OEM versions)

Or is it OK to install it? Because Wikipedia says the requirements are:"The requirements include: automated methods of installation of the product; customization of the installation to identify the OEM; first level technical support of the product..etc."I want to install it because there's NO 64-bit Vista Ultimate in my language...excepting this OEM version. But I don't know what the consequences might be...(I mean, I can't add info about customer support, my company's name, etc....Because I'm just a user, not a manufacturer!)

Install 4GB Into Laptop Whose Manufacturer Claims 2GB As MAXIMUM

Jun 19, 2009

Now as an Electrical Engineer I proved this point and upped my HP to 4GB w/3.25GB usable: If your chipset is Intel945 - as in my HP dv8408us & MANY NEWER HP laptops (Pavilions/MediaCenters), ignore HP claim of maixmum memory = 4GB. You can install 2GB+2GB sticks, you'll get 3.25GB usable by Windows, I know you waste about 1GB but it still makes sense. Intel945 chipset is hardwired for 32-bit adddresses so Windows whether it be 32 or 64bit is not a limitation, it's the chipset which is a limitation, STILL it can address 4GB, not 2GB as HP claimed on my laptop specs. I've done the same with IBM Thinkpads, where they claimed 512MB to be max 5 years ago, but I was running with 1GB. It appears idiots sometimes write these specs because 2GB laptop SDRAM modules were unavailable at that time at reasonable price/pinout?..............

Windows: Not Compatible Every Program Supposedly Compatible Seizes Or Shuts Down

Jun 19, 2008

Without a doubt the worst windows version ever made! Microsoft were finally on track with windows XP pro but they had to go and screw it up by bringing us vista! Nothing works, nothing is compatible every program supposedly compatible seizes or shuts down! It is constantly vulnerable to viruses! There's no end to the complaints I have about this crappy version of windows! Wake up microsoft because you're just soft now and nothing micro about it!

Report: The Least Popular Windows OS Ever

Feb 6, 2009

This will only make frank close his dog ears so he can continue barking with his toothless mouth. Once upon a time, Microsoft crowed that Windows Vista would be twice as popular as XP. Research firm Ovum, Ltd., predicted a more modest 15 percent switchover in the first year, but gushed that Vista would be "the fastest-moving operating system ever." IDC forecast 10 percent, relatively anemic compared to XP's 14 percent in the first year, but a decent showing.

And now? More than two years after its launch Vista has managed a penetration of just 9 percent, according to a Forrester Research report released last week, giving it the dubious distinction of being the least popular new Windows OS out of the gate, ever.

But things are looking up for Vista. This year finally will be the big one, says Forrester. Really. Thirty-one percent of the 962 North American and European IT decision makers interviewed for the report have already begun migrating to Vista; another 26 percent plan to start in 2009 or later.................

System Health [Diagnostic] Report

Oct 31, 2009

After running the System Health Report from here;

System Health Report

at the System Diagnostic Report, I get a warning advising that the scan failed to detect running anti-virus, anti-spyware etc. protection, here and yet at Start>Control Panel>Security Centre, all protection requirements are shown as up and running, here

is there any way that I can get the scan to recognise the Security protection setup, and so include it in the System Diagnostic Report? I've had no problems with viruses, malware or spyware. This is purely an administrative issue to try and get the System Diagnostic Report to give a true account of the system.

Which External HDD Is Compatible With X64?

Mar 27, 2008

I am trying to find an external hard disk drive that is fully compatible
with Vista x64.

I purchased a Western Digital My Book Premium II drive and it doesn't work
properly even though their web site states that is Vista compatible. I
contacted them and they fairly ridiculed me for assuming that that meant it
would be compatible with 64-bit Vista. I can still use the drive to
actually copy files to but there is no 64-bit driver so the bundled software
doesn't work and Vista keeps telling me that it needs to install a driver
for this device.

I contacted Seagate about their FreeAgent Pro product and they claim it
should work even though there is also no 64-bit driver for it. I don't
trust that statement after my experience with the WD drive.

Doesn't Appear X64 Compatible

Nov 4, 2008

I have a Dell M6300 laptop running Vista Ultimate x86 that I want to ugprade to Ultimate x64. I currently use Embassy Trust Suite on this laptop (with Vista Ultimate x32) for hardware authentication. My HDD and system are locked by passwords which are both mapped to my fingerprint. The hardware authentication is the only functionality I use it for. The 2.1.2.25 version of Embassy Trust Suite is available from Dell for my model but it doesn't appear to be x64 compatible. It lists only Vista x86. Embassy has a full version on their website but it references the TPM driver from my manufacturer. Does anyone out there have an M6300 running an x64 version of Vista?
