View 7 Replies View RelatedThis will only make frank close his dog ears so he can continue barking with his toothless mouth. Once upon a time, Microsoft crowed that Windows Vista would be twice as popular as XP. Research firm Ovum, Ltd., predicted a more modest 15 percent switchover in the first year, but gushed that Vista would be "the fastest-moving operating system ever." IDC forecast 10 percent, relatively anemic compared to XP's 14 percent in the first year, but a decent showing.
And now? More than two years after its launch Vista has managed a penetration of just 9 percent, according to a Forrester Research report released last week, giving it the dubious distinction of being the least popular new Windows OS out of the gate, ever.
But things are looking up for Vista. This year finally will be the big one, says Forrester. Really. Thirty-one percent of the 962 North American and European IT decision makers interviewed for the report have already begun migrating to Vista; another 26 percent plan to start in 2009 or later.................
Anyone familiar enough with a sys health report to care to take a look for me and decypher it? There are several concerns in it. Just need to know how serious, or should I disergard? That being said, I'm not sure how to even post that one.I don't think I've ever had this many issues in this short a time span ever. I'm prety sure this one stems from the whole partition thing. Oh, while I'm thinking of it, any suggestions on the best config. to manage partitions? Single OS boot, dual HDD (internal)

at the System Diagnostic Report, I get a warning advising that the scan failed to detect running anti-virus, anti-spyware etc. protection, here and yet at Start>Control Panel>Security Centre, all protection requirements are shown as up and running, here
is there any way that I can get the scan to recognise the Security protection setup, and so include it in the System Diagnostic Report? I've had no problems with viruses, malware or spyware. This is purely an administrative issue to try and get the System Diagnostic Report to give a true account of the system.

I have a simple text file with a certain word in it. I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it. Windows 2000, linked by network, finds it within a second.
I have tried all available options.
"include non-indexed"
"always search file names and contents"
"find partial matches"
"include subfolders"
etc
etc
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.
happened to my choices of "file," "view," etc. when I open Windows Explorer?

Using the Search facilities I found the program file "Snipping Tool.exe" onmy hard drive. I created a new shortcut but the program will not start, nothing happens. I also tried double clicking on the "Snipping Tool.exe"file.

I'd like to prepare for the future with the 64 bit. i'm considering upgrading from a 32 bit to a 64 when Win7 is released later this year. with what i've researched already, i think my system should be able to handle it ok, but i was wondering if there were any kind of software tools that would check a system and advise what will NOT handle it. along the lines of the vista upgrade tool that was available.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi just got windows Vista Home Premium X64 a couple days ago and so far i have just a couple problems that i can't figure out. Well first of all i can't get the switching between windows thing to work correctly. My Girlfriend has Vista Home Premium also but she has 32 bit. But on hers the switching between windows is the live tabs of each window. And also when you hover the mouse over a minimized window on the taskbar its shows a live icon window of that window, but on mine it's just a tool tip. Another thing is i cannot change my colors of my taskbar and active windows. On my girlfriends PC when you go to the control panel and go to customize then colors it shows some different colors and it changes the taskbar as well as the windos but on mine its way different when you go to change the colors. And one last little question I have read about the Aero thing.. not sure exactly what it is.. i think its a theme right? well i don't have it under my themes list.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIssues With Vista Windows Mail And IE Explorer, About a week ago when I clicked on internet explorer (v.7) to get on the internet, it would time out and not even bring up the white page. After troubleshooting everything without results, I downloaded Firefox and began using that temporarily. I had tried to download IE v 8 with no luck.. Now when I try to send an email, windows mail will not allow me to put the cursor down where the message is to be written.
I also discovered that if I ran IE “Run as Administrator” it will work, but will not allow me to use the cursor to input text, like in a google search etc. I was going to go into options on internet explorer and reset to default settings, but the tool bar does not show up?? I tried to download IE v 7 and got a message that it was incompatible with my OS! Got the same message when I tried to download IE v8 again. I don’t know if all these issues are related or not.
I deleted the two web-slice icons (the ones with the drop-down at the side) that came as default on the IE 8 tool-bar as I thought they may take up too much space as I add bookmarks. Is there a simple way to restore them?

I plan on getting my first Windows Vista laptop in a few weeks. Since I am on the road often and don't leave my laptop idle for long, I need a defrag tool that works transparently in the background while I am using the machine. I am wondering what people think of the included deframentation tool in Windows Vista or if a 3rd party application like Diskeeper is necessary for my needs.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI thought this might help people who are having problems updating Vista. This article describes the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista-based computers and for Windows Server 2008-based computers. Microsoft released the System Update Readiness Tool to resolve certain conditions that could cause installing updates and other software not to work. You do not have to manually run this tool. This tool is offered automatically through Windows Update to computers that have a condition that the tool could resolve.
After you download the System Update Readiness Tool, it runs a onetime scan for inconsistencies that might prevent future servicing operations. This scan typically takes less than 15 minutes to run. However, the tool might take significantly longer on some computers. The Windows Update progress bar is not updated during the scan, and progress seems to stop at 60% complete for some time. This behavior is expected. The scan is still running and you should not cancel the update.
