I know theres a problem with 4GB of ram under Vista 32 but...I've been running Vista 64 Business for a couple of months now, and I only recently noticed this (I believe it was OK before...):Does anyone have ANY idea how this is possible?Bios shows 4GB as well. I'm running an intel D975XBX2 mainboard, with an E6600 CPU @ 3.0Ghz. 4X 1GB Corsair twinX and an ATI HD3870X2 videocard.
View 5 RepliesI have a Lenovo X61 machine with Windows Vista. I have 3 GB RAM...1GB+2GB in the 2 memory slots. I got a new 2GB RAM and pulled upgraded the machine to 4GB by pulling out the 1GB. After the installation, the BIOS shows 4GB RAM, but Windows shows only 3GB. In computer properties, it shows 3062MB. In system information, it shows

Available Physical Memory - 1.32 GB
Total Virtual Memory - 6.16 GB

Why is it not detecting the 4GB Memory though it shows up in BIOS. Do I need to upgrade anything or change any settings?
I put together a new system, and the hard drive shows its true size (250GB) in the bios, however during the windows vista 64bit installation the hard drive says its only 232 GB. I then exited the installtion and restarted. It still said it was 232GB. I continued on with the installation hoping to see if it would change once Windows was installed with all the drivers. I paritioned the drive so that windows would be 50GB and the rest of the drive would be for whatever i wanted and i would split it up later. I proceeded to format the remainder of the hard drive before i went on to install windows, and it stayed there for a while and then i realised it locked up and i got a BSOD.
I reset the computer, and went on to install windows and i didnt bother to format the remainder of the hard drive. Windows installed without any problems, but when i get to windows, the drive still shows as 232GB. I ran a memory test from a Kubuntu CD and its not the ram.
I just installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit on a new pc I just built. System properties shows 64-bit Operating system. But when I go to display settings the tab where it says "color" says Highest(32 bit). What does that mean? Does one have any thing to do with the other? My PC Specs:MoBo: Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe/WiFi-AP, a MSI RX3870-T2D512E OCgraphics card. 2gig memory And a AMD Phenom X4 9600.

The hdd shows up in My Computer and shows stuff in it but when I open it, it says that the folder is empty. I whent to Vistas disk manager and it shows everything is fine with the hdd but for some reason the files just wont show up.

Whats it for, what should I use it for. or do the things you try and install that are 32 bit go in there, and the others go in the normal file?? Please let me kno what the deal is with that.

View 5 Replies View RelatedVista will not load up Normal, once I get to account selection screen, mouse and keyboard are unresponsive. REpair mode did not resolve issue. Attempted various restore points from 4/23/08 going 30 days back. I can then select an account and Vista begins to load up but keyboard unresponsive when initial programs load up, even using PS/2 device connection. Mouse still fuctions until....System seems to "hang" after a "New Device Found" window pop up. Windows will search for drivers for you. Then nothing.. I then lose mouse control...

View 4 Replies View RelatedWell, I just got 4gb of RAM (4x1gb) from Silicon Assets. Coming from 1gb (512mbx2), which was high density. The new stuff is low latency (4-4-4-12), and low density, and double sided. Well, I installed them in Vista Ultimate x64, and only 2814 show up. I go in the BIOS, and everything shows as 4gb, the PCI-E is limited to 512mb (because thats how much it takes iteself), and everything was set. Well, in CPU-Z it also tells me I have 4gb of RAM. When I used the MEM-TEST LiveCD, it said I had 2815 again, same as Vista. I removed all the RAM and tested them one by one, and all showed up in the Bios correctly. I then put in 3 sticks so they aren't in dual and that only 3gb is there, and the same: 2815 even after scanning and everything. I am completely lost on what to do.......

View 5 Replies View RelatedSometimes when I install drivers I get the message that my BIOS is out of date (including updates from AMD) if I go to the Phoenix site it says go to the motherboard manufacturer or run Biosagent if you use this you pay for the update but you do get this info so is it worth e-mail gateway support, using the boisagent or just leave well alone.

My brother has just built a computer and can't get it working. The problem is that when he starts it he gets to the screen where he can choose to enter BIOS. 9/10 times he can't do anything from there but 1/10 times he can press delete and then it says "loading bios" but it freezes there (he waited 30 mins nothing happened). However programs i already had on my hdd install fine. View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been messing around in my BIOS. Installing some faster RAM and trying a slight overclock (2.4 t0 2.7Ghz on a Q6600) and seem to have caused myself several problems. Firstly I tried to push it a bit further on the FSB- from 1200 to 1300-the system wouldn't boot and wouldn't let me into the BIOS. I eventually got round this by removing the mobo battery. I was able to get back into the BIOS and revert to my original oc. However when I booted I got a re register Windows this is not a genuine version notice. I had to 'phone microsoft and get a new activation ID. I'm now back in windows (Vista HP 64 bit) but seem to have a few left over issues. My clock was set back to 2006 and that meant I couldn't activate Gmail etc. I went back into the BIOS and reset the date but could not change the day. So it's 3.19PM on Monday the 22nd of September, 2008. I've tried everything I can think of but cannot find a way to make it Friday, which it is.
Also I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. This keeps reporting that my computer is at risk and I need to update. I've updated over a dozen times but it doesn't seem to change and is still telling me it needs to update. These are ther first problems I have noticed. I hope I don't find more. Does anyone have any advice as to how to get my day and date correct and how to convince Kaspersky it's up to date?

View 8 Replies View RelatedWell, I did installed SP1 today. Everything (the installation) went fine! After it finished, I checked again the WU and got the update for my Realtek AC'97 which I was trying to avoid. Although, I ended up installing it because I read somewhere that it needed to be updated for the SP1. Now, this update (Realtek) doesn't fixed anything since now every time I right-click on the little speaker and select Playback/Recording Devices then I get a message with: "Windows has detected that audio enhancements for the following device are causing problems: Realtek blah, blah, blah..." Can anybody explain that?
But now, the real good one, I have only 1GB of memory but when I go into the properties of the computer, then it tells me that I have 8GB installed... Don't I wish!!! So, I thought, hmmm, maybe if I remove the 1GB and try only 512MB then Vista will recognize its mistake. Well, guess what, I got then instead 4GB available showing on the properties... Strange! Very strange, I thought to myself... Funny is that the task manager shows the correct amount of memory! Have any of you had such a situation too??? I did already an uninstall of the SP1 which came from the WU and installed the one from the download link in Microsoft website. But, as you guess, it made no difference...
I have an 8GB SanDisk Cruzer drive and when I plug it into Vista it only shows 6.43GB. Is this normal? If so where is the other 1.5GB'ish of space gone?

Well, I have a quadcore QX6850 processor which supports 64bit computing, IM running Vista Ultimate X64 and have the ASUS P5n32-e Sli motherboard with a 9800 G2 SLI card. So which is true? Do I need to remap the memory? If so how, how? I looked in the BIOS and you can change volate, timings etc but without proper guidance on that IM dead in the water.
Why is Everest/Task manager reporting 8GB as 4GB, yet the BIOS at 8GB etc?
Okay, so I've had this HP Pavilion with Vista 64 bit less than a week (see specs below) and it's much much faster than my old Dell model [with XP] BUT today I was running a scheduled Hardware Diagnostic and it took like 30-40 min. and towards the end of it I tried to change the Power management so it would not go to Screen Saver mode (as it already had) and when I tried to do so, it took like 3 min. for it to open the Control Panel, 3 more minutes to open the Power Options dialogue, 2-3 more minutes to open the sub-menu there, and so forth - altogether about 8-9 minutes to do this simple task of changing Power Options while running hardware diagnostics.
I can understand that Hardware Diagnostics might take a lot of the computer's resources, but THIS is ridiculous! It was like going back to Windows 98 with 256MB RAM. Problem is, I have this*, so it shouldn't be this slow! Should it??? :

I installed 8GB of memory and Vista only shows 3.08GB in the system print out. And the system acts like it only has 2GB. My system boot program shows that it sees all 8GB and there is no indication there is a problem with any of it. The motherboard will support even larger modules. Right now I have four modules of 2GB each. What am I doing wrong?

Task manager Performance shows about 50% CPU usaage but Processes says 98% idle. If I start in safe mode Task Manager is the same but I seem to get a little better response. I use a free version of AVG.This problem seems to show up a lot in Google but each one seems to get resolved a different way. I tried some things others did but it has had no affect. The last time I started there were about 10 SVCHOST

What I think happened is that I put a number of programmes on the task bar, immediately to the right of the Windows logo, and perhaps this is the information as to the location of these programmes. Are these shortcuts and, if so, can I delete them? As I went back to check on the items, I also found another "desktop.ini" file in my Documents Folder - it is different from the above two. What is the proper location of these files?
Have recently purchased the upgrade to 64 bit Vista, however, having installed the disc on boot up I expected some sort of instruction on the transfer to 64 Bit procedure. nothing. When I review the details of my PC in the System menu on the Control Panel it still shows me running with 32 Bit. I have even tried to run the set-up from the upgrade DVD but have been refused and told to run from boot-up.
