Mar 23, 2009This may be a question that gets asked a lot but I can't seem to find the answer. Is it possible to record one show while watching something else entirely? I have looked at dual tuners n such but they don't specify if this is possible. I started thinking maybe its a Media Center thing... If this is possible, can anyone reccomend a PCI tuner card that would give me this ability?

May 23, 2009My buddy was bringing over some files for me on his laptop hdd running xp. I plugged it into my vista x64 computer via usb and I am having a few issues. The hdd shows up in My Computer and shows stuff in it but when I open it, it says that the folder is empty. I whent to Vistas disk manager and it shows everything is fine with the hdd but for some reason the files just wont show up.

Dual Screen Cannot Watch Streaming Off
Sep 2, 2009if this has been answered but i cannot get the search function to work, anyway, when i connect my dell inspiron 1525 laptop (via hdmi)to my lcd tv, its a pain enough just getting it to dual screen with the sound coming from the telly but whenever i watch a video on the tv at full screen its fine until i touch anything on the keyboad and the video returns to a minimised window, this means i cannot watch anything streaming off the net on the telly whilst browsing facebook etc..... can anything be done? and does anyone know if windows 7 handles dual screen any better than vista?

Jan 5, 20091. when I play games (quake4) and watch dvds, every now and again (more often with games, sometimes with dvds) the screen freezes and I have to reboot by reset button (nothing else work). As my PC is new, I don't know whether it's a hardware or software problem.
2. I have MS Office 2003 loaded, and again the Word would stop responding every so often and sometimes it restarts, sometimes it doesn't.
3. Finally, a few programs, especially catalyst, would stop working as soon as boot up is completed, but again, this happens only at times. To top it off, sometimes vista will reboot itself automatically, as if I pressed the reset button.
I've checked Bios updates from Asus, and while there are newer updates, they don't seem to be for the problems I'm having, and my realtek driver is the latest version (I've compared my version to what's on Asus' site)
Record Sound From Computer

Well to begin with i would like to say that i am a new user here and i dont know if this question had been previously asked so sorry. well i have a problem. My OS is Vista x89 Ultimate with all the recent updates, and my problem is that i dont know how to record sound in Vista. I knew how to do it on XP with a very simple software like JetAudio, but on Vista its a bit confusing. To become more clear. I dont want to record from a microphone but from the computer itself. eg some sites that play music. i would like to know how to do such a thing.

Mar 19, 2009It allows me to record any streaming sound, mic input, line input,etc. ( I converted cass tapes and Vinyl Records) I have created many MP3's from 10seconds to 8hrs. I tried to use it on my vista laptop and it just won't work. I have tried many recorders to MP3 but my built in mic picks up any sound in the room.

Audio Doesn't Record Right
Mar 1, 2008When I use programs such as sound recorders or capture cards, the audio doesn't record right. It records as if I were using a microphone. How could this be when there is no microphone plugged it? The weird part is that I can hear myself and other things in the background of the recordings. Is there a setting that would change it so that it records from the actual source?

This was a useful way to convert song files from one format to another (for example, from wmf to mp3, or from some proprietary iTunes or Rhapsody format to mp3). This option isn't available on my new Gateway running Windows Vista. The new sound menu has "Recording options" and "Playback options". Under "Recording options" it only has Microphone, Aux and Line In. None of these work for recording from the computer. Is this a limitation of my machine, or of Vista? Is there a way around this problem? How do I record from the sound card in Vista?

Apr 14, 2008In XP I could record audio with sound recorder from anything I could hear. For example, if I was playing a WAV file, or listening to a song on the internet, I could record it. Now in Vista it only allows me to record from my microphone. I checked disabled devices and still can not get anything but the microphone to show up. Is there anyway around this besides sticking an audio cable from the headphone jack into my mic input? So far Vista has me aggravated with things I have lost, you would think a newer operating system would allow you more flexibility, not take it from you.

Oct 20, 2008i have bought a gateway M-1628 with a built in webcam and when i open camera assistant software program. it shows nothing the light for the webcam comes on like its on. but it shows no image at all. with the program i can record sound but no video. i uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it and still nothing. just wondering if there have been other problems. i have a Toshiba a while ago with the same program for the webcam just a little different and that one worked at first but just didn't work with messengers and later updated to work. but i can't find new updates of anything for the one i have now.

Audacity recorder with line in, and mic. My webcam, the recorder on vista etc. And i get the same results every time. It sounds good for about 20 ish seconds, then massive quality drop and it gets skippy and staticy and just all around horrible.

May 24, 2009So I was trying to watch "Heartbreak Ridge" in avi format and it will run fine for a bit but then all of a sudden vista locks up so tight that I can't even do a ctrl + alt + Del. I have to manually reboot the pc for it to work, and then when I try to play a movie again it will just freeze. I have noticed it is not limited to movies as I have seen it happen when it goes to screensaver, you will see half of the image being drawn and then it freezes. Mar 19, 2008Well, I did installed SP1 today. Everything (the installation) went fine! After it finished, I checked again the WU and got the update for my Realtek AC'97 which I was trying to avoid. Although, I ended up installing it because I read somewhere that it needed to be updated for the SP1. Now, this update (Realtek) doesn't fixed anything since now every time I right-click on the little speaker and select Playback/Recording Devices then I get a message with: "Windows has detected that audio enhancements for the following device are causing problems: Realtek blah, blah, blah..." Can anybody explain that?
But now, the real good one, I have only 1GB of memory but when I go into the properties of the computer, then it tells me that I have 8GB installed... Don't I wish!!! So, I thought, hmmm, maybe if I remove the 1GB and try only 512MB then Vista will recognize its mistake. Well, guess what, I got then instead 4GB available showing on the properties... Strange! Very strange, I thought to myself... Funny is that the task manager shows the correct amount of memory! Have any of you had such a situation too??? I did already an uninstall of the SP1 which came from the WU and installed the one from the download link in Microsoft website. But, as you guess, it made no difference...

After the installation, the BIOS shows 4GB RAM, but Windows shows only 3GB. In computer properties, it shows 3062MB. In system information, it shows

8 GB Shows As 4 GB With P5n32-e Mobo / X64
Mar 4, 2009Ive had 8 GB in my machine for over a year, all is fine, runs no probs. But I recently installed Everest and noticed that it reported my 8GB being 4096 of physical RAM. Opening task manager confirms this also, yet the BIOS, and the Vista welcome screen says 8GB
I read that the nforcei 680 (?) chipset doesnt use more than 4GB, yet other articles state you need to have MIMO in operation.
Well, I have a quadcore QX6850 processor which supports 64bit computing, IM running Vista Ultimate X64 and have the ASUS P5n32-e Sli motherboard with a 9800 G2 SLI card. So which is true? Do I need to remap the memory? If so how, how? I looked in the BIOS and you can change volate, timings etc but without proper guidance on that IM dead in the water.

800mhz Ram Shows As 400mhz
Oct 31, 2008Okay, so I've had this HP Pavilion with Vista 64 bit less than a week (see specs below) and it's much much faster than my old Dell model [with XP] BUT today I was running a scheduled Hardware Diagnostic and it took like 30-40 min. and towards the end of it I tried to change the Power management so it would not go to Screen Saver mode (as it already had) and when I tried to do so, it took like 3 min. for it to open the Control Panel, 3 more minutes to open the Power Options dialogue, 2-3 more minutes to open the sub-menu there, and so forth - altogether about 8-9 minutes to do this simple task of changing Power Options while running hardware diagnostics.
I can understand that Hardware Diagnostics might take a lot of the computer's resources, but THIS is ridiculous! It was like going back to Windows 98 with 256MB RAM. Problem is, I have this*, so it shouldn't be this slow! Should it??? :

Installed 8GB Only 3.08 Shows In System PO
Apr 28, 2008I installed 8GB of memory and Vista only shows 3.08GB in the system print out. And the system acts like it only has 2GB. My system boot program shows that it sees all 8GB and there is no indication there is a problem with any of it. The motherboard will support even larger modules. Right now I have four modules of 2GB each. What am I doing wrong?
