Apr 23, 2008i am having problems with the sound on vista. music plays fine until i open anything else. if anything is loading music is severely distorted. i have updated eveything there is. i cannot listen to any music on myspace or watch any videos on Internet.

Mar 23, 2008I don't know why but sometimes movies and such are played upside down in WMP, I opened the file in windows movie maker the first time it happened, thinking it was just the file, so I was going to turn it around, but in WMM the file played right side up. I tried it in VLC Media player, and again it played right side up. Then I ripped a dvd and again it was upside down in media player but other players played it right side up. Now it's not ALL videos that play upside down, only some, I"m not sure what's going on. does anyone know how to fix this?

Mar 23, 2008Just got new computer with Vista Home Premium. Have set parental controls to medium for my son. I am the administrator. If I go on "You Tube" I can see the videos and hear the music = it all works fine. However, if my son goes on you Tube he cannot see the videos/hear the music even though I have put "You Tube" in as an allowed website in Parental Controls. All he gets is the little circle (or timer) as though it is looking for the relevant video but, even if we wait ages, the video never appears. I have tried unchecking the "enable hardware acceleration" as per another post on this site but that made no difference.

Jan 27, 2009with all the latest games I have bought (gta IV and mirror's edge) I get DEP errors. I tried to exclude them from DEP but my vista won't accept it. So now every ten minutes my games freeze up. What can I do about it? I've read some artikels about shutting of DEP completely. I'm wondering though what that will mean for my security. On some other forums it has been implied that the DEP errors have something to do with faulty hardware.

Jul 17, 2008Topic pretty much says it all. It happens when I play numerous games - Counter-Strike, Warcraft III, etc. This has never happened when I had Windows XP. I've searched the forums for a solution but have yet to find one. I'm using 'Win Optimizer' right now and I still get spikes (more frequent as of lately). Anyone know a "fix" or solution for this problem?

Sep 10, 2008I've had a terrible problem with my computer. I have no idea what the specific problem is (despite hours of troubleshooting), so I'm goign to explain everything as much as I can.I used Vista Ultimate 32-bit for months on my machine and had no problems at all, everything worked great. Then, about 2 months ago, I switched to Vista Ultimate 64-bit because i figured I might as well get all I can out of my CPU. Everything worked fine at first, no major problems. My games and everything else worked just fine. But then, one day (about a month after installing x64), I got this terribly weird lag while playing one of my games. Here's how it always works: The game starts up just like normal and will play normally for a decent amount of time.
Then, all of a sudden, it starts lagging TERRIBLY. My frame-rate drops to almost nothing and my CPU goes up to 80-100%. After a while, the lagging goes away and everything's perfectly smooth, but the the same lagging and CPU rise happens again for a while and then goes away again. It's like a pattern. The sessions of lag generally last a full 1-2 minutes. After this problem first occurred, it never went away. I soon noticed that it didn't just apply to video games either. The rise in CPU usage and the video lag on my screen seemed to happen in a constant pattern no matter what I was doing.....

May 15, 2010When I first got my computer, it worked just fine, I played all my games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and WoW on the fullest settings without a problem. Then a few months later it began restarting after anywhere between 30 mins to 1hour+ of playing. I called the makers of my computer, we tried to see if it was overheating but it wasnt, I also tested the videocards, it wasnt that either. Then, out of nowhere it fixed itself for a few months, then out of nowhere it happened again. I restored my computer to an earlier time and it worked for a few days and now it's restarting again.

Dual Screen Cannot Watch Streaming Off
Sep 2, 2009if this has been answered but i cannot get the search function to work, anyway, when i connect my dell inspiron 1525 laptop (via hdmi)to my lcd tv, its a pain enough just getting it to dual screen with the sound coming from the telly but whenever i watch a video on the tv at full screen its fine until i touch anything on the keyboad and the video returns to a minimised window, this means i cannot watch anything streaming off the net on the telly whilst browsing facebook etc..... can anything be done? and does anyone know if windows 7 handles dual screen any better than vista?

Jan 5, 20091. when I play games (quake4) and watch dvds, every now and again (more often with games, sometimes with dvds) the screen freezes and I have to reboot by reset button (nothing else work). As my PC is new, I don't know whether it's a hardware or software problem.
2. I have MS Office 2003 loaded, and again the Word would stop responding every so often and sometimes it restarts, sometimes it doesn't.
3. Finally, a few programs, especially catalyst, would stop working as soon as boot up is completed, but again, this happens only at times. To top it off, sometimes vista will reboot itself automatically, as if I pressed the reset button.
I've checked Bios updates from Asus, and while there are newer updates, they don't seem to be for the problems I'm having, and my realtek driver is the latest version (I've compared my version to what's on Asus' site)

Sep 5, 2008just got some games loaded and I used to have ATITray Tools which would let you keep the frame rate and temps in the corner during game play, anything like that for Nvidia? Just ran Quake4 at full specs and had Nvidia performance control panel turn the fan to 90%... but would like to monitor the temps and frame rates on this and other games. 9800GT 1GB. ( as soon as the new card arrives.... back to ATI tools.

May 24, 2009So I was trying to watch "Heartbreak Ridge" in avi format and it will run fine for a bit but then all of a sudden vista locks up so tight that I can't even do a ctrl + alt + Del. I have to manually reboot the pc for it to work, and then when I try to play a movie again it will just freeze. I have noticed it is not limited to movies as I have seen it happen when it goes to screensaver, you will see half of the image being drawn and then it freezes. My System Temp atm is 42C, I will list my spec below so you can see what i'm working with.

Jul 29, 2009The problem is: my dvd-rw drive plays CD's AND DVD videos but will not play game DVD's. What i have tried so far.
1) Used a lense cleaner to clean the drive.
2) removed upper and lower filters (registry)
3) Tried the game in another system (it works and is vista compatiable -
and yes the other machine was running vista)
4) Brought a new drive - still same problem.
5) uninstalled and re-installed drivers
6) Updated mother board drivers
7) tried the origonal drive from this machine in another machine running
vista - guess what? it works fine.
8) Tried system retore to the ealiest point possible - no good!
9) Same as above but from a backup - no good.
10) removed the only burning software i have installed (nero7) and re-
installed - no good. Also I would like to point out that the drive was
working perfectly when I first installed nero 7.
I am sure that between the drive working and ok and not working ok I have not installed any new software, only Vista updates etc but it hard to point out when it actually failed. Could this be a registry problem? Driver issue?
Rundll32 Errors On Videos?
Oct 21, 2008I have been living with rundll32 errors for a while on my video files, I upgraded from xp to vista. It has not caused any real problems. However a few months ago I seemed to lost ability to deal with windows personalization. Can not change anything in windows color, theme or icon's said admin had turned off.. I was logged in as admin. I could live with this also as I could change my background and had set the colors to what I liked.
Well now things are worse two days ago the rundll32 errors started to happen a lot, Firefox crashed completely, would not run.. windows problem reporting told me to upgrade would crash with rundll32 error. My recyle bin went away, and can not replace, change icon's causes rundll32 error. Yesterday vista would no start.. took two times of repairing with upgrade disk and now seems to be fine. Went to cmd.com in run to do a file check. got the error NTVDM.exe and command com will not load. NOw in personalize change color get rundll32 error. Checked event log they all seem to be the same error....

May 26, 2008i use this way to download Internet vids. i'm very happy to share with you. please also reply with your method. the software i'm using is called moyea flv downloader. it is a freeware. install and start the downloader. you needn't get the url when downloading the vid. press "start recording".
click in the page where the vid is playing. the downloader will automatically save it to your hard drive. then you can watch it with the embeded flv player. you can search "flv downloader" on google.com for more info. looking forward to your replies.
E-mail-attachments (videos)
Apr 23, 2010Lately I have found that my Videos sent as attachments in my Windows Mail on Vista are failing to open when I double click. What occurs is that they play, but in the backround with the original e-mail still in view. To see the attachment video I have to click on the icon (i have now on the taskbar) to view the video playing. The previous video attachments, those, which I had save on hard drive are also doing the same if I want to view them. This has just began, for before, once I double clicked I could view them right away.

I've always normally been able to open up my attachments that are videos by the usual double click, a futher window pops up to Open, indicating that it'll open up using Windows Media Player, I clicked on Open and it would begin. Now when I do the aforementioned and the window comes up and I click on open, it begins playing, however to view it I have to click on the icon Windows Media Player before the actual e-mail will disappear and the video is able to be viewed. Why would this have just occurred, has it something maybe due to their recent updates etc.

Once you have watched the Mov/Vid and stop it and say you are done it sits in the main screen menu as now playing - eventually to start again of its own accord. The only way to stop this happening is to close VMC and reopen it.
