Computer Randomly Restarts When Playing Games

May 15, 2010

When I first got my computer, it worked just fine, I played all my games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and WoW on the fullest settings without a problem. Then a few months later it began restarting after anywhere between 30 mins to 1hour+ of playing. I called the makers of my computer, we tried to see if it was overheating but it wasnt, I also tested the videocards, it wasnt that either. Then, out of nowhere it fixed itself for a few months, then out of nowhere it happened again. I restored my computer to an earlier time and it worked for a few days and now it's restarting again.

Computer Randomly Restarts During Games

Jun 24, 2008

I have just bought a new computer with the following specs
3.00 Ghz Intel core 2 Duo
ATI Radeon HD3870X2
4gb DDR3 Ram
500gb Hard driver
Asus P5E3 Mobo
650W Power Supply
Windows Vista 64 bit

The while playing games such as Call of Duty 4 and World in Conflict I can play for about 5 mins to 30 mins then my computer would randomly shut off and restart.

The weird thing is that it plays fine in other games like Crysis on
high graphisc and I can play for hours and have no problems.
The CPU tempearature is about 50-60C while playing and the GPU is about
70-80.

DEP Stops Me From Playing My Games.

Jan 27, 2009

with all the latest games I have bought (gta IV and mirror's edge) I get DEP errors. I tried to exclude them from DEP but my vista won't accept it. So now every ten minutes my games freeze up. What can I do about it? I've read some artikels about shutting of DEP completely. I'm wondering though what that will mean for my security. On some other forums it has been implied that the DEP errors have something to do with faulty hardware.

X64 Lag Spikes While Playing Games

Jul 17, 2008

Topic pretty much says it all. It happens when I play numerous games - Counter-Strike, Warcraft III, etc. This has never happened when I had Windows XP. I've searched the forums for a solution but have yet to find one. I'm using 'Win Optimizer' right now and I still get spikes (more frequent as of lately). Anyone know a "fix" or solution for this problem?

Terrible Weird Lag While Playing Games

Sep 10, 2008

I've had a terrible problem with my computer. I have no idea what the specific problem is (despite hours of troubleshooting), so I'm goign to explain everything as much as I can.I used Vista Ultimate 32-bit for months on my machine and had no problems at all, everything worked great. Then, about 2 months ago, I switched to Vista Ultimate 64-bit because i figured I might as well get all I can out of my CPU. Everything worked fine at first, no major problems. My games and everything else worked just fine. But then, one day (about a month after installing x64), I got this terribly weird lag while playing one of my games. Here's how it always works: The game starts up just like normal and will play normally for a decent amount of time.

Then, all of a sudden, it starts lagging TERRIBLY. My frame-rate drops to almost nothing and my CPU goes up to 80-100%. After a while, the lagging goes away and everything's perfectly smooth, but the the same lagging and CPU rise happens again for a while and then goes away again. It's like a pattern. The sessions of lag generally last a full 1-2 minutes. After this problem first occurred, it never went away. I soon noticed that it didn't just apply to video games either. The rise in CPU usage and the video lag on my screen seemed to happen in a constant pattern no matter what I was doing.....

Jun 21, 2009

i have this new HPnotebook with a core2 3Gram, ATI 512..When i play games, switch user, my taskbar enlarges and shrinks respectively.. look at the image.. does the resolution of my PC have to do with this? or vista is at fault? or HP is at fault? or me? what to do, HP customer care dont know what they are doing.. Computer Restarts When Trying To Print

Apr 16, 2009

One of the computers in my office keeps rebooting to the safe mode option when trying to print. The print job is coming from Quickbooks, but I don't think that is the root of the issue. The printer is a b&w Brother HL-2070N laser printer and has been set up on the same computer for over a year. The desktop computer is running Vista Home Basic. The problem just started and I don't know where to start. I haven't found anything online that relates to my issue yet

Computer Restarts Whenever Close The Lid

Mar 15, 2009

I set my power settings to go to sleep upon closing the lid of my laptop, but for some reason over the past few weeks it has decided to randomly restart the computer instead of just going to sleep. This doesn't happen all the time, but with relative frequency. Another problem with it is that every time it does this (meaning everytime it chooses to restart upon closing the lid, not every time I restart otherwise) is that it clears all of my cookies, as well.

Computer Shuts Down With No Warning, Then Restarts

May 24, 2008

I am using Vista Ultimate and am on a fairly new computer, does anyone know what is causing this? I've ruled out overheating and energy problems. I set windows to not automatically restart and give me a blue screen on crashing, but it still shuts down and restarts with no warning. Is this a hardware issue? It's done this since I've gotten the computer but it seems to be getting worse now.

Boot Vista: Computer Restarts

Jul 9, 2009

When I try to boot Vista (Home Premium 32bit), the loading screen with the green bar doohicky shows up followed by a black screen with the mouse cursor. It oscillates between "working" and regular cursor but in the end, the computer just restarts and it does that again if I try to boot it. This probably happened because I system restored right before getting this problem, but I'm not absolutely sure. I also got this error message just once or twice in the many times I tried to boot:..........................

Computer Automatically Restarts Before Loading Windows

Aug 31, 2009

when I had to open Internet Explorer (I use Mozilla) to access my school email account. Everything went fine and when I was done I reopened Mozilla to browse again. I got one of those annoying spam web popups saying I had a computer infection and clicked out of it. A few minutes later my pc just randomly rebooted. I have had viruses before but it has never shut down randomly before. So I immediately restarted in safemode and ran my spyware tools. I found 3 trojans (I no longer remember their names) and removed them. I rebooted and it starts to load windows but reboots before it reaches the user account screen. I can get into safe mode and I did run my spyware tools again, they didn't find anything at all. I figured I had somehow damaged my system and so I downloaded a windows repair disc and repairedit. It didn't work. I've run startup repair and that didn't work or find anything wrong either.

Computer Turning Off Randomly

Feb 15, 2009

I was sitting there and my computer just shut off randomly. I got a message saying something like windows needs to be repaired or something so I clicked the button to repair it. I go downstairs and watch a movie, and then I come back up and I see a black screen with the mouse pointer doing the loading animation. So I leave it for about 2 more hours and still nothing happens, I turn it off manually.

Now I have to create a new user account, but I cant because it shuts off after about 1 or 2 minutes of running. I finally got that done and when I click on my user account to start up it shuts off after about 30 seconds on the desktop. The only way it will run is if it is in safe mode. I am even on it now writing this message. It runs great in safe mode... what do I do? I don't have a Vista disk anymore...

Frozen, LOCKED UP Randomly The Computer

Sep 3, 2008

I recently built a computer with Vista Ultimate 64bit. I absolutley love it and have only had two problems. LOCKED UP Randomly the computer will just lock up. No graphical glitching, no errors, no nothing. In fact if you just came in the room and looked at the screen everything would appear normal. This happens when doing any manner of things. It has happened when playing games, surfing the net, working on a document or even when the computer is left on overnight.

Its very sporatic too. I have gone a whole week without it happening with turning the computer on and off. I have also had it happen a few times within a few hours. Sometimes I can leave the computer on for a few days and it wont happen, sometimes it will happen right after I have signed in..............

Computer Randomly Changes Monitor Works

Feb 27, 2009

I don't know what is going on. I updated to Windows Vista from XP about a week ago. Installed all my drivers and everything worked great for three or four days. But, all the sudden and for no reason at all I woke up one morning and only had one monitor able to recieve a signal from my computer. I checked all my connections, checked all my equipment to make sure nothing was broke, updated all my drivers.

Now it's just funny. When I restart my computer sometimes my computer randomly changes which monitor works. Sometimes both work fine, sometimes both work but they're switched (it thinks the second monitor is the primary and vice versa). Sometimes both will work fine until I do something, for example if I'm browsing the internet and I click on a random link a monitor will just lose signal. Sometimes they both lose signals.

Majority Of Games Lock My Computer...

Jun 8, 2009

when I start some games, or even programs (Fallout 3, Halo 2, or HJ Split, etc...) my computer just locks up, with the blue circle vista loading thing, stops having the spin effect, I can't even move my mouse. This causes me to do a force restart with the switch on the back of my PSU. It isn't the service pack, because it did this on sp.1 now on 2 It's not my video drivers, as I have recently updated them.
But I am not sure if my graphics card is conflicting with my mobo, because my graphics card is from ATi, while the motherboard is a nForce-730i. Fallout 3 used to work, even to the point where I beat it.......

Play Games Computer Graphices Don't Experience

Aug 10, 2009

I'm new to the forums as you can tell by my post count, and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on a decent gaming computer, to run games such as C&C 3 ( and 4 in 2010) CS:S, and maybe even FO3. I have around £500 to spend ( monitor is not needed ), I have found a pretty decent looking computer from Staples:Staples.co.uk Your business partner for Office Supplies, furniture and technology. Just wondering if this comptuer is decent enough to handle these games, and maybe future releases. Also could someone please explain what is the difference between Intergrated graphics and dedicated graphics. I don't have too much experience with the hardware of computers, so building one is off the question.
