Boot Vista: Computer Restarts

Jul 9, 2009

When I try to boot Vista (Home Premium 32bit), the loading screen with the green bar doohicky shows up followed by a black screen with the mouse cursor. It oscillates between "working" and regular cursor but in the end, the computer just restarts and it does that again if I try to boot it. This probably happened because I system restored right before getting this problem, but I'm not absolutely sure. I also got this error message just once or twice in the many times I tried to boot:..........................

Computer Restarts When Trying To Print

Apr 16, 2009

One of the computers in my office keeps rebooting to the safe mode option when trying to print. The print job is coming from Quickbooks, but I don't think that is the root of the issue. The printer is a b&w Brother HL-2070N laser printer and has been set up on the same computer for over a year. The desktop computer is running Vista Home Basic. The problem just started and I don't know where to start. I haven't found anything online that relates to my issue yet

Computer Restarts Whenever Close The Lid

Mar 15, 2009

I set my power settings to go to sleep upon closing the lid of my laptop, but for some reason over the past few weeks it has decided to randomly restart the computer instead of just going to sleep. This doesn't happen all the time, but with relative frequency. Another problem with it is that every time it does this (meaning everytime it chooses to restart upon closing the lid, not every time I restart otherwise) is that it clears all of my cookies, as well.

Computer Randomly Restarts During Games

Jun 24, 2008

I have just bought a new computer with the following specs
3.00 Ghz Intel core 2 Duo
ATI Radeon HD3870X2
4gb DDR3 Ram
500gb Hard driver
Asus P5E3 Mobo
650W Power Supply
Windows Vista 64 bit

The while playing games such as Call of Duty 4 and World in Conflict I can play for about 5 mins to 30 mins then my computer would randomly shut off and restart.

The weird thing is that it plays fine in other games like Crysis on
high graphisc and I can play for hours and have no problems.
The CPU tempearature is about 50-60C while playing and the GPU is about
70-80.

Computer Shuts Down With No Warning, Then Restarts

May 24, 2008

I am using Vista Ultimate and am on a fairly new computer, does anyone know what is causing this? I've ruled out overheating and energy problems. I set windows to not automatically restart and give me a blue screen on crashing, but it still shuts down and restarts with no warning. Is this a hardware issue? It's done this since I've gotten the computer but it seems to be getting worse now.

Computer Randomly Restarts When Playing Games

May 15, 2010

When I first got my computer, it worked just fine, I played all my games such as Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and WoW on the fullest settings without a problem. Then a few months later it began restarting after anywhere between 30 mins to 1hour+ of playing. I called the makers of my computer, we tried to see if it was overheating but it wasnt, I also tested the videocards, it wasnt that either. Then, out of nowhere it fixed itself for a few months, then out of nowhere it happened again. I restored my computer to an earlier time and it worked for a few days and now it's restarting again.

Computer Automatically Restarts Before Loading Windows

Aug 31, 2009

when I had to open Internet Explorer (I use Mozilla) to access my school email account. Everything went fine and when I was done I reopened Mozilla to browse again. I got one of those annoying spam web popups saying I had a computer infection and clicked out of it. A few minutes later my pc just randomly rebooted. I have had viruses before but it has never shut down randomly before. So I immediately restarted in safemode and ran my spyware tools. I found 3 trojans (I no longer remember their names) and removed them. I rebooted and it starts to load windows but reboots before it reaches the user account screen. I can get into safe mode and I did run my spyware tools again, they didn't find anything at all. I figured I had somehow damaged my system and so I downloaded a windows repair disc and repairedit. It didn't work. I've run startup repair and that didn't work or find anything wrong either.

Having Two Copies Of Vista On One Computer: Install Vista On The Smaller Drive, Boot With That, And Access Files On The Other Drive

Dec 25, 2008

Right now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.

My question is-

Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).

Apr 14, 2009

This never happened for a couple of days but as I started updating Vista, the Blue Screen Error has been occurring. the Problems Center in Vista advised me to update to SP1 because it said that this issue has been resolved in the latest service pack. After updating, the problem is still here. When i boot Vista up its normal, and operates perfectly. But when the issue of putting my computer on sleep or shutting down/restarting, the Blue Screen appears and restarts my computer so i
have to resort to turning it off manually.

Computer Not Boot Into Windows

Aug 12, 2009

My computer will not boot into Windows. I have a 250 GB HDD and a 500 GB HDD. the 250 GB had Vista x64 on it and then I partitioned it with Acronis (after backing it up to the 500 GB HDD) so I could install Windows 7 x64 on the smaller (about 55 GB) partition that I have just made. That didn't work so I reformatted my 250 with Acronis (the backup that I had) and tried to install Win7 on the 250 and just make a small partition from the installation screen. Now when I try to boot up there is just a black screen with a white blinking hash mark in the upper left corner. When I use a boot disk it does show that there is partition on the 250 GB and both Vista and 7 are installed, but for some reason I can't seem to boot to them. Long story short: I want to be able to dual boot to windows vista or windows 7. How do I do that?

How To Repair When Computer Boot To Windows

Jul 7, 2008

I have a Dell Dimension E520, which won?t boot to Windows (Vista), and none
of the repair options work:

Startup repair
Reports repair fail due to problem with registry

System Restore
Reports no restore points available

Windows Complete PC Restore
Reports no backups available

Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool
No memory problems

Command Prompt. Can?t think of any appropriate command to use here. So I booted with the system DVD (as one would with XP) but the upgrade option has been greyed out. I don?t want to do a clean install. I want to repair the existing installation.

64 Vs. 32 2 Differenct Computer Not Dual Boot

Mar 3, 2009

Vista 64 vs. Vista 32 - Please specify which in the text. At least with the 2 "Home Premium" flavors of Vista they are enough dissimilar that when someone refers to a problem, one might be well advised to specify as Vista64 or Vista32. I have both (on 2 different computers, not dual boot) and although some programs claim to be for "Vista" (sometimes true) they don't specify which Vista.

I have had installation issues with Vista64 which were not seen on Vista32. And even when installation was sucessful on both, there are problems on Vista64 but not Vista32, and occasionally the other way around. I know from experience that a 32 bit vs. 64 bit operating system can give problems. We encountered it in Math modeling when changing from 16 to 32 bit Compilers and Hardware.

I tried with boot.ini. I've read that there's a program called bcdedit.exe. I tried to make that one work on XP, but I failed. I don't have Vista's DVD, and I'm trying to avoid installing XP again. If there's any way around...I would be gratefull! (Is there any way I can edit bcdedit.exe in XP?)

Slow Boot Time Computer Running Ultimate X64

Mar 28, 2009

I've recently put together a new computer using these parts: I've updated to Vista Ultimate SP1, run multiple disk clean ups, defrags, use CCleaner, clean the registry, defrag the registry, disabled services and have made tweaks according to the guide provided on this website and have minimal startup programs running but my boot times average around 2 minutes. For a new computer with new hardware, this seems unreasonable as many users report boot times between 30-60 seconds. What could be wrong with my computer? On the vista loading screen with the green bar, it goes through about 22 cycles.

Vista 64 & Vista 32 Dual Boot Issue

Mar 26, 2008

I had an Vista 32 bit version installed and which was used fine.

3 days before I had upgrade my PC's memory to 4G, then I find Vista 32 Bit version can not recognize all the memory. So I try to install an Vista 64 Bit version for the test to check if the 64 bit system is ok for me.

The problem is, Vista 32 was installed on to the 3rd partition of the harddisk, usually the drive letter will be E in Windows XP and previous version windows, although it in Vista it display as C drive. I tried to install the 64 Bit Vista in to the 4th partiton. After all the drivers and applications install completed, that seems so far so good. Then I find my previous F drive now names C. The Drive C in Vista 32 Bit names E now. When
I try to boot into Vista 32, the error message : winload.exe could not find.

I used bcdedit try to redirect the device and osdevice to E drive, Vista 32 still could not start normally, the system will hang up in the blue desktop background, seems can not load user profile or sth like that.

I have check the E drive, all the files of Vista 32 are still there.Anyone have any good idea about fix the Vista 32 bit boot and keep the Vista 64 bit also?

Restarts Black Screen

Nov 16, 2008

My friend has a VISTA Medion laptop (I dont have full details to hand but will get this and post latter). It has a problem that has just started to happen over the last two months or so (so they say). It started off that after starting the laptop for the first time after about 5-10 mins it would crash and go to a black screen with a few blue boxes on, the only way to get it back would be to hold the power button till it came on. I had a look at it and updated video drivers, windows and checked for viruses and malware. All of this seemed to do was move the problem to just going to a black screen (like hibernation) but i could not get it out of it unless again using the power button. I have now changed all power settings in basic and advance to off or various different versions of some off some on different times all to no avail. I have also disabled everything other than MS from startup. However this has now resulted in the laptop restarting itself again after 5-10 mins. Again it is only from a cold boot, once it has restarted once it is fine till the laptop is turned off.

Having read a few post i have since updated all the drivers i could think of including sound and network drivers. I have updated the BIOS all with very little change. The current state is that it still restarts but again only off a cold boot but now just before it does the screen goes blank and the mouse cursor gets bigger. So; I have already updated all drivers & the BIOS I have tried power settings including making sure hibernation is active and deactivate. I have disabled startup progs in MSCONFIG I have Virus and malware scanned I do not think it could be overheating as it only happens when the laptop is turned on for the first time and so has not had time to overheat and it would do it more often and not after only 5-10 mins. I have thought it could be the RAM but before spending money on new RAM i wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas. Does anyone know what the main difference is in the boot sequence when it does a cold boot? I forgot to mention the only thing my friend can think changed around about the same time as the problem started is that she started to use the wirless on the laptop.
