View 9 Repliesjust got some games loaded and I used to have ATITray Tools which would let you keep the frame rate and temps in the corner during game play, anything like that for Nvidia? Just ran Quake4 at full specs and had Nvidia performance control panel turn the fan to 90%... but would like to monitor the temps and frame rates on this and other games. 9800GT 1GB. ( as soon as the new card arrives.... back to ATI tools.

View 4 Replies View RelatedYou already know that Windows is a phenomenal gaming platform - the most popular gaming platform on the planet, in fact! That's why you're here. But what you may not know is that Microsoft and some of the gaming industry's biggest names have worked together to make the gaming experience on Windows better than ever. And Games for Windows is the result. What is Games for Windows? It's a promise of games that deliver the great new gaming experiences on Windows. The Games for Windows brand on games means four key things:
1) Quality. Games for Windows branded titles undergo extensive testing, and not just by the publisher. Microsoft also invests in quality checking each title to ensure they meet performance and reliability standards.
2) Compatibility. Games for Windows branded titles work on Windows XP and Windows Vista based PCs, including both 32 and 64 bit editions. Games for Windows titles that support controllers are also compatible with the Microsoft XBOX 360 controller for Windows, including the XBOX 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. They even support widescreen resolutions and more.
3) Safety features. You can be confident that any title carrying the Games for Windows brand will support the new parental controls and family settings features in Windows Vista...............
How can I make my games run in a window? (For some reason, I prefer to play games in "windowed mode".) In XP you had to add something like "-w" on the shortcut thingy... But it doesn't work on Vista. I know how to do the "Windowed GUI" -thingy, but I think it quite doesn't help me. I even tried it, but the games still run in fullscreen. I have managed to make a few games run in a window, but that is because there was an option for it in the game options. Unfortunately for me, not all games have that kind of options. Or maybe I'm just blind, and I don't find that kind of things from the game options. *shrug*

View 7 Replies View RelatedFor all those detractors out there who believe Vista is rubbish for older games, and in particular Vista x64, I'd like to present some evidence to the contrary, in the form of a blast from the past. 1995 to be exact.I've recently re-aquired an original Diablo 1 (what can I say - I'm a Diablo fan), and figured because I was using Vista Ultimate x64, I'd have to run it in Windows XP under Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. However, when I got home from work this afternoon, I inserted the disk and allowed the autoplay to run.
The game installed without problems. Although I must mention that I changes the install path from "C:Program Files (x86)Diablo" to "C:GamesDiablo". And it played! To top it off, it even showed up in the Vista Games Explorer. This has surely got to be the oldest game I know of that has installed without any issues whatsoever onto Vista x64, and does not even need to have any compatibility mode settings manually changed! Here are two screenshots that shows the following information: That I am using Vista x64 Diablo 1 displays in the Game Explorer Diablo 1 runs without any Compatibility Mode settings! A view of the game in action, with a newly created character This is truly a testament to the compatibility of Windows Vista x64, and the quality of games produced by Blizzard!
I'm running vista 64 home premium and I have noticed that on a number of windows games the hint windows are dispalying over large fonts so you cant read the entire hint. for example in freecell when you try to move a stack of cards thats too large the hint window is supposed to tell you how many cards you are able to move at that moment, but that part of the message is off the egde of the window. Ive noticed this with all the card games the mahjong game even the kids game Purble place. Ive tried adjusting the fonts dpi setting and even the advanced setting from personalizations.
View 7 Replies View Relatedim installing AvP 3 and i just cant do it.
apparently for some reason the dvd stops reading...
when i enter "my computer" and try to go into drive d(my dvd) it just crashes,
then i have to wait from a range of 5 mins to 1.5 hours for windows explorer to restart...
and the game installation crashes too...
that happens with other dvds and cds too.
i have changed various dvd drives from various companies and i have updated all of their drivers...the problem is consistent.
im tired of buying new dvd drives and throwing them away for nothing.
obviously its a vista issue cause on my old pc everything works just fine(i have xp on that one).
most of the games i just copy the dvds files on my portable harddrive using my old pc and then do the installations through that harddrive on my current pc...
but this game is a "steam" game and that wont work...
any ideas?
ps:its not a hardware issue, its definately a windows vista issue.
Recently I noticed that my Internet's upload speed is EXTREMELY low. No problem with Download, I have almost a 3M Download. But i ran a speed test on peedtest.net -The Global Broadband Speed Test, and downlaod was fine, no problem, but i simply wouldn't upload. I tried sending an email with a small attachment, very slow, took like 30 minutes to add the attachement. I have AVG 8.0 Internet Security, with everything turned on.

4 gb memory

I have been having problems with games ever since i built this system. Warcraft 3 plays fine but Halo and BFME crash the computer. The screen goes blank and then locks up after only a few minutes of game play. I have to unplug the machine to reboot. I have tried everything I know. I bought a new large CPU fan that has a speed control and I used a big glob of arctic silver on the cpu. Temps stay around 40C to 48C during use. I have updated all drivers. I have switched memory, tested the memory. Adjusted virtual memory. The only thing I have not tried is to install a new PSU. The one in the system is 750w and all the settings match the game requirements. I have examind the rail reading in bios and they all match the specs. I do not have an additional PSU so I am trying to troubleshoot this without having to get another PSU. I have installed updates to the games, windows, and all hardware. All drivers are windows signed and I only have problems with those two games. I have also pointed a large fan at the case just to see if it is a heat issue and the same thing happens.
For Xmus I'm going to buy a laptop and put Vista 64 on it.
Civ4
SH3
Falcon Allied Air Force

Saitek X52
I cant get Dawn of Magic, 1503AD The New World, or Port Royale 2 to work with solid system running vista x64.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a client who until recently was able to run MS Games (Freecell, etc)For some unknown reason he can now only run these games by right clicking and running as Administrator. To try and run the games in the normal manner he gets a message "The publisher could not be verified" Strange when it's a Microsoft program. And even when he clicks yes to the message "Are you sure you want to run this software "he still is unable to get the program to run. Some info regarding the system. He is running Vista Home. with all the windows updates. No new software has been installed and the system has been checked for viruses etc. The user was created as an Administrator and he is the only person using this computer. I have tried a System Restore but to no avail. Any ideas as to what may have caused this and how to fix it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know that upgrading from Home Premium versions to Business versions is not directly supported (I don't think it is, anyway). I have 10 licenses for Business and I wish to join a domain. Is there a way I can load Vista Business and apply my Business licenses to sort of "quasi-upgrade" my newly purchased machine which came with Home Premium to Vista Business? That is, other than a clean install (I'm trying not to have to track down all the drivers). There is no data on the machine now so I don't have to worry about data. I was thinking maybe a "repair" install or something? Or an "overwrite" install?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am running rdiff backup (Not that this makes a difference for the problem) on Windows that runs fine on Windows XP and Windows Vista Business N. But it doesn't run on Windows Vista Premium because of the junctions that exist in Vista. The difference is that in Vista Home Premium you can't follow the junctions but in Vista Business N you can. Meaning, in Windows Explorer running Vista Business N if you browse to a location with a junction (say Documents and Settings) and click on it, it follows it to it's new location (Users) where in Vista Home Premium, when you click "Documents and Settings" you get the "Permission/Access Denied Error" Anyone know why? Or better yet, how to fix it? Or is this just a difference between Business and Home?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI’ve been playing on my computer for a while and have noticed that whenever I play my games, my computer will freeze and hang up after about a couple minutes of playing into the game. The screen will freeze and whatever sound was playing will loop in the background. I cannot ctrl alt del out of the game and my computer requires a hard restart whenever this happens. I have been looking on some forums about this problem with games freezing and supposedly the fix was swapping the different RAM modules. I tried doing that but it still keeps freezing after playing for a bit. I then used Riva Tuner to turn up the fan on my graphics card to 100% but that did not help either. I have the latest drivers for Vista x64 too. I also tried playing the games in Windows XP (I am running both Vista and XP on my system) but the same thing happens. I then started to think if the 500W power supply was too low so we got a new 650W PSU, but haven’t put it in yet.
View 9 Replies View RelatedPossibly not even a Vista problem, but this seems to be a pretty good resource overall so I was hoping somebody might have an idea what's wrong. I am running a pair of eVGA 7950 GT cards in SLI, no overclock anywhere, and I get a very odd display whenever I get into some kind of 3d game. I have attached a screenshot of HL2; however, this also happens in WoW so it's not game dependant. Any idea how I get rid of this crazy display? You can see there is some ghetto lettering that says SLI in the top left corner, and there is what could best be described as a green histogram along the left edge of the screen that "breathes" as the scene changes.
