How can I make my games run in a window? (For some reason, I prefer to play games in "windowed mode".) In XP you had to add something like "-w" on the shortcut thingy... But it doesn't work on Vista. I know how to do the "Windowed GUI" -thingy, but I think it quite doesn't help me. I even tried it, but the games still run in fullscreen. I have managed to make a few games run in a window, but that is because there was an option for it in the game options. Unfortunately for me, not all games have that kind of options. Or maybe I'm just blind, and I don't find that kind of things from the game options. *shrug*
just got some games loaded and I used to have ATITray Tools which would let you keep the frame rate and temps in the corner during game play, anything like that for Nvidia? Just ran Quake4 at full specs and had Nvidia performance control panel turn the fan to 90%... but would like to monitor the temps and frame rates on this and other games. 9800GT 1GB. ( as soon as the new card arrives.... back to ATI tools.

Does ANYONE out there know anything about importing music with the new Vista? We just bought our Dell from Best Buy and Dell tells us to call BB and BB tells us to call Dell or bring it in... here is whats going on... I want to make a DVD of our kids for my husband. I'm one of those users who has been using Vista with no problems ever since Microsoft gave out RTM copies to beta testers. However, as a writer, I've watched the media completely destroy the public opinion of Vista, leading many to stick with Windows XP or to look for alternatives, even before they had tried Vista. Even with SP1 out, many have not bothered trying Vista on recent hardware and therefore could not realize the fact that it really is worthy of being XP's successor. If I had to lay the blame on one party for Vista's poor public opinion, I wouldn't lay it on Microsoft, I wouldn't lay it on hardware companies incapable of producing good drivers, I wouldn't lay it on the fact that XP is so good, I would lay it on the media for blowing things out of proportions.
Yes, the problem is exaggeration (it's in this article's title too, in case you missed it); bloggers and journalists alike use their personal experiences to prove their point in their writing. I just bought a brand new ipod nano and i have been having nothing but problems trying to download my songs to my ipod. everytime i plug the usb cable from my ipod to my computer the computer does not recognize the device. I have gone back and fourth with apple and compaq to try and resolve the problem but i just keep getting the run around. I was told by the rep. at apple to call microsofts and ask them to update usb drive firmware so that the computer will be compatable with the ipod.
A long time ago I installed an evaluation version of Windows Vista on the second partition of my pc, next to my installation of Windows XP (dual boot partition C and L). The evaluation period has long since expired and I am no longer using Vista. However, all the files are still present on my second partition, and every time I start my pc, the boot menu will come up. What do I need to do to completely remove all the files that belong to Windows Vista and make sure that my system boots straight into Windows XP,without stopping for the boot menu?

I have purchased a Windows Vista license a short time ago and I have some difficulties with the folder option of remembering each folder settings. I have unset this option but Windows Vista still continues remembering the situation I leave each folder. What I would like is that all the folders were always initialized to a default, even a default for each kind of folder (I just wouldn't like Windows to store individual data for each folder).
how to run the speech app. (WSR is short for Windows Speech Recognition). I gave up, nothing in the Help section about how to make user-created macros, or user-created commands. Knowing how to do that is absolutely necessary if you desire to get WSR to be even halfways accurate and fast. WSR has absolutely the worse Help section I have seen in ANY speech app. After a lot of searching on the web, using search phrases like: How to Make User-Created Macros. I literally stumbled over this excellent site - After you spend a lot of time and effort creating your own macros and commands, WSR might perform much better, at least I hope so. Let you know for certain in a couple of weeks. It will take me that long to build up a bunch of user-macros and user-commands, guided by that excellent website.
i have windows vista home premuim, and i want to know, if a game says install only on windows xp can i install it on vista without having problems to install it or play it?
Throughout the beta process Microsoft received a lot of feedback on how the taskbar and the window border changes to black when you maximize a window. Before the final release they altered the behavior slightly so the window and taskbar would still turn opaque and black, but with a very slight tint of color that matches the color of your glass. This change satisfied some users but left others still in the dark. Many users wanted a maximized window to remain transparent as well as the taskbar. For all those detractors out there who believe Vista is rubbish for older games, and in particular Vista x64, I'd like to present some evidence to the contrary, in the form of a blast from the past. 1995 to be exact.I've recently re-aquired an original Diablo 1 (what can I say - I'm a Diablo fan), and figured because I was using Vista Ultimate x64, I'd have to run it in Windows XP under Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. However, when I got home from work this afternoon, I inserted the disk and allowed the autoplay to run.
The game installed without problems. Although I must mention that I changes the install path from "C:Program Files (x86)Diablo" to "C:GamesDiablo". And it played! To top it off, it even showed up in the Vista Games Explorer. This has surely got to be the oldest game I know of that has installed without any issues whatsoever onto Vista x64, and does not even need to have any compatibility mode settings manually changed! I'm running vista 64 home premium and I have noticed that on a number of windows games the hint windows are dispalying over large fonts so you cant read the entire hint. for example in freecell when you try to move a stack of cards thats too large the hint window is supposed to tell you how many cards you are able to move at that moment, but that part of the message is off the egde of the window. Ive noticed this with all the card games the mahjong game even the kids game Purble place. Ive tried adjusting the fonts dpi setting and even the advanced setting from personalizations.
apparently for some reason the dvd stops reading...
when i enter "my computer" and try to go into drive d(my dvd) it just crashes,
then i have to wait from a range of 5 mins to 1.5 hours for windows explorer to restart...
and the game installation crashes too...
that happens with other dvds and cds too.
i have changed various dvd drives from various companies and i have updated all of their drivers...the problem is consistent.
im tired of buying new dvd drives and throwing them away for nothing.
obviously its a vista issue cause on my old pc everything works just fine(i have xp on that one).
most of the games i just copy the dvds files on my portable harddrive using my old pc and then do the installations through that harddrive on my current pc...
but this game is a "steam" game and that wont work...
any ideas?

I've tried using Control Panel where I can't find Windows Mail as an option for default e-mail handler.
Tried changing by accessing Properties from Windows Mail but when I change to "Make this the defalut e-mail handler, apply and save then exit and return to Properties the setting has returned to Not the default e-mail handler.
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium.
Note:
Control panel does show Windows mail as being the Default Newsgroup handler.
every time it opens it says its not the default. I can go to options and click make default which it accepts but after presing OK and reopening options it says again it is not the default mail handler I had thought that this ptoblem was linked to have outlook installed I have uninstalled this now and rebnooted but the problem persists linked to this problem perhaps is the fact that internet options only sees windows mail as a news handler
Make Windows 7 a *completely* 64-bit operating system. Most modern processors (the ones that'll meet the min requirements) are 64-bit capable. This will be the final step in securing a 64-bit standard! This will incline software developers to make more, if not most, programs 64-bit.
